Wholly unacceptable. From an alien race? Really? Doing Transformers the way he did was one thing, but this crosses the line. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the line.
To arms my brethren ! The evil that is amongst us threatens to defile our very souls. Our memories are at risk of being torn asunder and distorted by the wickedry of The Evil Wizard 'Darth Bay'. Together we must stand unto the light and cry out with One Voice: "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

TMNT were ment to be a parody, a spoof, you name it. Underground stuff that accidentally went mainstream. Michael Bay is asploding them way too seriously...
But then i was too old to get into the turtle mania and you wouldn't believe what kind of stuff lies in my childhood memories...

Yes. Get rid of him.
Anyone who thinks Abrams is all about 'lens flares' needs to watch a Michael Bay film. His lens flares have lens flares.
And as far as TMNT goes.....are there seriously no other ideas out there ? No undeveloped new concepts submitted by a fresh screenwriters...at all ? Really ? Nothing ?
Hollywood has become a sad, toothless town for anything resembling new ideas.
And to change the background mythology of a series to the degree being done here, it seriously needs to be called something else. For old TMNT fans, this is almost a case of consumer fraud. Can you imagine wit the new Star Wars films...hey, lets set the story in Asgard so they can fight Thor ! Makes about as much sense. What does it matter? Stupid origin story where pet turtles become human/turtle hybrid crime fighters vs a stupid origin story involving aliens. The origin story wasn't the reason anyone cared about the show, so I don't see what the big deal about changing it is. If anything he is right in that, getting them to be "tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable" is central to making it work. Trying to re-trace every little story detail about the originals is not. |

Quote:It just bespeaks of the creative gulf in Hollywood that is of their own making. Old news. The economic model of Hollywood rewards boneheaded numbskull behavior. And punishes truly creative effort. The only way to sort that out would be to ban all current Hollywood players from ever again having anything to do with movies ever again. Even then, there's no guarantee the model wouldn't self-ressurect.

Yeah. Homogenization and gentrification are killing our true culture tbh.
Even San Francisco does not have a half of the personality, creativity, diversity, or charm that it had even 10 years ago. It's becoming just like 'everywhere else'.

Hollywood wants to make money, not movies.
They don't care how they do it, and they rely on the stupid masses which eagerly gobble up every drop Hollywood squirts at them.

Plus they are terrified due to their own greed of losing even one dime on an untested project.
If he wants to remake TMNT, that's fine. But to change the origin story......one may as well make up something new around that entirely instead of announcing that you are releasing a sham of a production...while even being called out in the geek-o-verse about its badness.
That some gumption to still march forward at that point, I'll give him that much.

Having had to live through Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (Way to go UK) I can live with this.
I understand my childhood was not sacred.
Therefore in the spirit of the Oscars I would like to give a speech.
And thank my parents for introducing me to Enid Blyton books which shall never be made into movies ever and so can be unsullied. Also for Terry Pratchett who refused to sell out to Hollywood and all the quality UK TV by Aardman, Morph, Rhubarb and Custard and Fireman Sam. Oh and Paddington Bear.
Face it, until the late 20s early 30s group takes over in about 20 years, we wont be able to change it and will have to be creative when it comes to movies. I mean have you seen the crap kids TV is now???? It's bloody awful! "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara
