Any idea if its possible to use a Maller to do lvl 3 missions (Guristas)?
Really can't be bothered to buy a battlecruiser or anything bigger, want to see if I can make do with what I've got

It's long time i use not a maller but i think a "duramaller" setup should still work. Dunno exactly all PG/CPU but u sould try something like this:
your should use med sized pulse lasers ( short range & long range cristals for cruisers that keep distance) because beams are not good enough to get orbiting frigs even with webbers. U should be able to hit NPC at 1-24km so probably u need to bring also raio cristals with u.
in med u should use an AB, webber ( needed for npc inties ), cap recharge ( best u can get)
for tank u should use a med. ar. rep T2, at least 2 hardeners ( kin & therm for gurista), adaptive membrane T2 ( or another kinetic hardener), 2x cpr

the original Duramaller used
Hi:
Frig sized guns (pulses)
nos or smartbomb
Med:
Large battery
100MN AB
Cap chargers
Low:
T2 small armor rep
Hardeners appropriate to type
Heat sink
Couple problems with it now:
100MN ab doesn't provide the same bost it used to
small pulses don't have the range they used to
And in general I think the missions have gotten harder

I'm sure a maller could do lvl3's. I'd guess something like 5 focused pulse II, 10mn ab II, 1 web, cap recharger and some tank/cap in the lows could work. just keep the speed up and quickly kill anything trying to web you.
but I'd say, you'd need good skills and good tactics to survive.

Maller is a fantastic choice for level 3's
Ive not done any missions for a while but i was able to do every mission i was given with a level 3 security agent in a maller. Use the Duramaller setup with tech 2 medium beams (frig size) if you can.

Missions have gotten more difficult with the patch, and much things have changed module wise since the original duramaller (setup is older than I am for crying out loud  ).
Most noticible are the pulse changes, oversized AB nerf (both allready mentioned, I know) and changes to plates. You probably want to calculate the effect of adding a plate and a regenerative membrane to boost HPs.
Since the Maller has reasonably good resistances anyway, stacking penalty for resistance mods will be quite high compared to the stacking penalty for a regenerative plate.
This is what I'd suggest (and am using for lvl 2 missions):
hi: 5x quad light beams
med: AB, webber or tracking pc, cap battery
low: med repper, 1600mm plate, regenerative membrane, adaptive nano, HS, Cap recharger
Has even less cap issues than a maller with frig guns, lots of armour with nice resistances, slightly lower range than the med beam variant, but higher dot.

Get amarr cruiser to atleast 4.
Smack on a plate and some hardners and use frig guns. Looks something like this:
high: 5*frigate pulses or beams
mid: 2*cap recharger, 1*ab
low: 1*1600mm rolled tungsten (or a cheaper 1600), 3 active hardners(kin/exp/therm),1 accom medium rep, 1 C. power relay
More than 65 in all resists, with 5000 armor, ab to get in the puny range of the frig guns you use. Smack something of your own choice in the 6th high.
Atleast that setup floats my boat on lvl3's. Since guristas do kin/therm you could go with 2 kin 1 therm instead of kin/exp/therm hardners.

Needs good fitting skills. Will do any lvl 3 mission currently in existance.
