My friend is having an issue with eve where it crashes atleast 4 times an hour. Today, it has crashed / reset his computer 8 times in the past 30 minutes. This is ridicolous. Yes he has the latest drivers and deleted his cache to try to resolve it. Same problem. Anyone know issues with this video card and how to solve them or any advice? Ill try and get the hardware specs soon from him. Thanks.

Are you sure it's the video card? I run the exact same card, and am able to run 2 simultaneous clients with no trouble for hours on end. Does he have on-board audio? Does his crashes frequently occur in combat? There are several issues with eve and out-dated AC 97 drivers. If this is the case, upgrading to the latest drivers seems to resolve the issue for most. ___________________________________________ General Protection Fault

Common thing for Radeon users, both me and my friend have the problem. Sometimes it lets you play for hours on end and sometimes it crashes you 5 times in 15 minutes. Weird problem.

Crash != reboot. Not always. Can you be more specific?
Does it causes the system to reboot? Does it blue screen? Does it drop him back to the desktop? If the latter, is there a message onscreen, like 'Server node down' or somesuch?
I'm using a Radeon 9700 Pro. Never had a BSOD or reboot, nor a crash-to-desktop that wasn't caused by a connection failure.
I'd suggest:
1. Turnomg off sound, jsut to see if that helps. In-game, CTRL-ALT-F12. Don't just turn down the volume, but turn audio OFF.
2. Do you have SMARTGART fast write turned on? Turn it off and see how you fare.
3. AGP speed at 4X? Notch it down to 2X. I was a Radeon 8500 owner years back and I could not get it to *not* reboot the machine unless I ran it at 2X.
I'm not suggesting you maim your hardware to play this game, but it's worth trying if you want to try to figure out what the problem is. |
