The future of Epic. is being tested now more than ever. This challenge does not come from a war, an enemy, or even a political shift in space. It comes from within us. The following will be a very detailed account of what may end up being the end of Epic., a pvp corp created to escape the political tensions of being part of an alliance.
Augest 3rd:
Around noon (eastern time)Morgina, Rei Storm, and some others were online with me. Things were quiet, and a conversation started up about how we could go off and make some money. In the end me and Morgina were thinking of going off rat hunting when Cown comes out of no where with this remark.
[ 2005.08.03 19:47:54 ] Cown > no ops because of internal problems in Epic more info later [ 2005.08.03 19:48:26 ] Cown > Caybn will corp mail issues later huys
At this we were all a little jumpy, and corp chat turned into random speculation. Later Caybn posted a very dramatic corpmail about how due to rl issues and the stress he felt from being a co-ceo, he was stepping down from leadership. I felt bad for Caybn, he had always been an incredibly devoted leader so i sent him a message thanking him for everything he had done for the corp.
Then Cown strikes again. Corp chat had dissolved into random conversations when Cown announces a list of people that are leaving epic, including Caybn. I convo'd fellow corp mate and player that got me into epic, Gryganne, and asked what was going on since she was an officer (Personell manager).
She was as confused as me and asked in corp chat, where cown responded to her asking why they are leaving by saying "because we were invited to go". Cown stuck to his typical tune of "It's a secret, and since you aren't part of it" tune. Gryganne got mad in chat, said she wanted to kill one of em. 30 seconds later Dantane, one of the players leaving was dead.
Caybn and the people leaving were furious that Gryganne had done this. Despite having announced their departure hours before, they still felt that they were part of the leading council of Epic. At this point I sided with Gryganne, we decided to wait until our CEO Araviel came on to see what was going to happen.
Gryganne stayed polite in corp chat, making small talk with members and generally staying optomistic about the corp's future. Gryganne was one of the last officers left. Caybn and most of the others finally left the corp, and things in Epic almost looked as if they would return to normal, minus most of our command structure of course.

Today things got a little different in corp chat. People were talking about where our corp freighter had gone, our POS, and our corp wallet. Many claimed Caybn had taken it with him. When suddenly Gryganne was kicked from corp by some character I had never heard of, I decided it was enough.
I convo'd Caybn, and found out that he in fact had used an alt left in Epic as a director to kick out Gryganne, one of our last officers. Caybn and me went on Ventrillo and the fighting broke out.
Caybn quickly assured me that he had taken nothing from the corp, and I am willing to believe him on this but I had more important things on my mind than property. I explained what had happened and the whole story behind Gryganne's attack. Me and Gry had not spoken to anyone about the attack, as without a leader online this would only cause more fights. Because of this corp opinion of Gry was, well what Caybn thought.
I defended Gry, and tried to tell Caybn how because of the way the defection had taken place Gry was under a lot of frustration. She was the only Epic. officer not to be invited to go along with the rest, and then they wouldnt even talk to her about it so no kidding she got frustrated. Whether killing someone is pardoned by this is not my decision to make, but the motive can clearly be imagined by anyone.
Caybn wouldn't hear it and quickly turned the conversation towards attacking me for past corp fights I have had. Giving up on Gryganne's pardon for the moment, I turned to assuring that Epic was put back under an Epic members command, and what happens? Caybn invited a senior corp memeber into ventrilo and we begin talking about what we are going to do. Everyone agrees we are going to wait for our CEO to come back online for big decisions, but for now we need a leader. Caybn asks if I mind if this vetran member, Kalast Raven, can be acting director, and I go along becuse it was the best thing for epic.
The kid has power for 30 seconds and he announces he is going to kick me because I think like Gryganne (have an open mind, try to bring justice to a corp and wham, you are now guilty). Not only this but he goes on to kick The Hanz, why? Simply because The Hanz joined the corp with me.
Well this is fine, all is not lost. Araviel must come back soon and when this takes place, we will see what she thinks of her second in command leaving with most of her most active players. I await this moment so that I can explain what has happened, and hopefully get Gryganne, me and Hanz back into the corp.
TO ALL EPIC MEMBERS: Hold on guys, its not over. Wait for Araviel to get back and things will be sorted out. You have not heard the whole story, only the gossip. Caybn and crew refuse to talk as a corp, send corp mails etc, they prefer to go person to person that they like and make little plans so just hold on. Keep an open mind, read this post, and await the return of the queen! May she save us all ____________________________________________ Veni Vidi Varpi I came, I saw, I warped the hell out |

To Caybn: Yes you poured your heart and soul into this corp, but hey you left by choice so don't try to control it now. Especially since you left because leadership was too stressful for you. Think of Epic as your child, you dumped Epic at the side of the Highway and it grew up without you, dont try come back and tell it who it is allowed to marry now.
To Kalast: You are a temporary leader, but tell Caybn to leave you alone and do what YOU think is best for this corp. You are the one who is going to make or break this corp, keep it toghether and for gods sake dont kick anyone else. ____________________________________________ Veni Vidi Varpi I came, I saw, I warped the hell out |

#1. Killing our corp mates is unacceptable, when they leave we will wish them good luck and let them go peacefully.
#2. Your failure to understand that principle makes you incompatible with my ethics, and unless Araviel feels differently when she returns, with Epic.
If Araviel feels Epic was done wrong by the members who left, I will unhesitatingly pursue them to the ends of the galaxy. However, I don't believe that's the case. I believe they are good, loyal members following a leader they trust, who wanted to take on a more low-key role elsewhere. I understand the transition wasn't handled smoothly at all, and for that I regret the misunderstandings that came about.
Epic's going to make the best of a bad situation, and move on. Learn from our mistakes, and improve.
I don't wish you any ill will, I provided Hanz with 30 million isk to alleviate losses he suffered as a member, and I will do all in my power to make sure things become settled properly. Each of you will, as promised, recieve an opportunity to be hired back on.
At present time, Epic has suspended recruitment. When our house in in order, we will be back. -------

I vote for:
1. The immediate abolition of slavery 2. Compulasy Asparagus for Breakfast.
Seriously, Good luck to Epic. You guys could have used some consistant leadership in the absence of Araviel (No disrespect to Kalast as he came aboard half way). It really sucks that something like this happened while she was away.
Hold strong and true. Good luck to Kalast: Keep a steady hand and hold strong for the return of Araviel.
PS. I put the abolition of slavery in for a joke. Work for me! |

Edited by: Gryganne on 05/08/2005 17:19:06 Edited by: Gryganne on 05/08/2005 17:18:47 I do understand why I was booted from corp, however it does irk me that the booting was done by a retired co-ceo using an alt that still had director roles to fulfill his vendetta. It was also done after I thought we had all decided to chill out until Araviel came back. What upsets me the most though is hearing that, for telling my side of the story to Caybn on Ventrilo, Asheara March is being kicked from the corp, and then The Hanz is also being kicked because he is a friend of Ash. I have little confidence in the corp's leadership at this point and every day that I log on I see that the corp roster has dropped a few numbers. Araviel told me before all this happened that he was busy in RL, so this all comes at a very unfortunate time for Epic. I have confidence that if he gets some free time and comes back online that he will be able to straighten things out.
The following is a quote from the Epic forums by Kalast Raven showing the excellent communication he is using to keep the corp together:
"I kicked The Hanz, and Asheara March, and Gryganne has been kicked also. I think Asheara's too immature generally, she had to go. Kicked the Hanz cause he is too close to Asheara... Told them to talk to Araviel when she gets back if they think it's not fair. They will be warned not to enter Providence because they will be valid targets for our ops."
Awesome, great job Kalast, I'm sure that's what Araviel would have done if he were here . As far as I've seen Asheara has been the only mature voice in all of this.

It truely would be sad if the corp doesn't make it out of this, but I'm sure Araviel can keep it going. Loyal and dedicated PvP'ers are not easy to find. Loyal and dedicated leaders are much more rare than that.

mmkay, that was not quite the way it happened was it Ash? 1. Some ppl who have flown together decided to leave due to internal differences. They were leaving on good terms--no theft, no backstabbing just differences of opinion. 2. One of the leaving members while afk gets podded by Gryganne. He has flown many times in the same gang with Gryganne. In fact he was in his new uninsured BS he just bought to replace the one he lost on an Epic op. 3. Ash immediately starts spamming the corp chat with announcements of 'End of Epic'--thats because 8 ppl out of 60 left. Must have seemed like the right thing to do at a difficult time for the corp. 4. Ash goes on the vent and really feels there is nothing wrong to in killing ppl who fought and lost ships with you just because they decided to leave. 5. At the same time quite a bit of Ashe's and Hanze's shady history comes out--much of it because Ash had a bout of verbal diarrhea on the vent. Small things such as backstabbing your own corp and such. 6. Acting director decided that these individuals' values are not compatible with Epic. End of story. P.S. On the vent you asked if we could part on good terms so that your 'bad reputation' stops following you around. I guess you just could not help yourself yet again.

Everything I said in my post is what i saw. Maybe in your little private chats things went differently, but me being a low priority member I heard nothing of what was truly going on.
I never spammed corp chats with "end of epic", if anything I have been the one person who has tried to hold epic together.
I never said I agreed with Gryganne on killing Dantane, I just wanted to present his side of the story since no one else would. Since he was the only officer left in Epic when we neede leadership, I wanted to keep him around.
And my bad history coming out on vent? Maybe if you would have been there from the start you would have known that Caybn asked me if what he had heard about me was true so i gave him the whole story. You just came in near the end.
And as far as my bad history goes, you dont know the half of it. But since this keeps coming to haunt me, I am going to go write my own autobiography woot woot! From now on when joining a corp, people will know all about my history from the start.

There are no villains in this whole fight. Everything that has gone wrong is due to a lack of communication along with the absence of a command structure in Epic due to Araviel being busy in RL and so many officers leaving. I have been made to be some sort of villain in this whole thing, when all I have done from the start is try to hold the corp together. Gryganne was one of our last officers left, and he was kicked without anyone even talking to him about why he killed the other guy. I step up to try and bring his point of view to the table, and in return I get dubbed a corp killer and kicked from the corp?
This is why groups of people need leaders ____________________________________________ Veni Vidi Varpi I came, I saw, I warped the hell out |

i am not one to engage in forum wars, as you can all see by my lack of posts, but i will simply state what i consider to be the key facts that make your opinion invalid ash.
1. gryganne attacked someone who was still in his corp. 2. he says he is justified because they were leaving epic, and epic has an nbsi policy. regardless, you never shoot someone who has lost ships taking damage for you, unless you have a damn good reason. and no "i wasnt invited to bydi" is not a damn good reason. 3. bydi is +10 to epic, there goes even the slightest possability of it being a reasonable action, even if he wasnt in the corp..... he would still be blue. 4. end of discussion, if you were kicked from epic and banned from their forums, dont come on public forums trying continue the arguement. 5. i did not try to control Kalast after making him acting director in my abscence. period. any descisions he made were his opinion of what was best for epic. and if youll look at his history, you might notice he was one of the first members of epic, after araviel and myself. 6. omg stfu n00b 7. wub you arav, always will, and that goes for everyone else in epic that kicked ass by my side

Well I tried my best, but by trying to present all sides of the story I have been dubbed a corp killer. (Like a lawyer being imprisoned for defending a murderer). Oh well. Epic I just want to say, its been great. I learned a lot from you guys and really appreciate everything you taught me. Where I go now, I am not sure.

Why would you put up something like this on public forums? Revealing a matter this private...is, well, unpunctual at best. ---------------

Well, I wish epic and the guys who left good luck with all the others. The Whitesands having lost most of it's officers and 2 CEOs in the past knows all too well what these kinds of things can do to a corp. But, if you've got a good CEO and directors, and don't let a morale blow occur from this you'll go on strong.
I doubt Kalast would of made a snap decision like that without proof. If I remember correctly I've flown with him in the past, in the north. Didn't seem like the kind of guy to make decisions like that without just cause back then, and doubt he does so now.

Edited by: Xathax on 06/08/2005 18:32:05 Huh. Here's everything from my perspective (as a little-known Epic officer - hell, little known anything ).
2005.08.03 23:13:00 Caybn resigns as Co-ceo. (66 members in corp, 80% active)
2005.08.04 05:24:00 Xathax installs World of Warcraft.
2005.08.06 17:58:00 Xathax stops playing World of Warcraft, logs into Eve to see what's up.
46 members in corp. Corp in-box full, forum in flames.
Conclusion: 1) People couldn't cope with me being gone for two days. :p 2) World of Warcraft is the devil.

Being an epic member, i believe i have a little right to say something on this matter. Even though i haven't been active much lately.
I think it's a disgraceful thing to post topics on the forum that are not completely settled just for idle banter. If you even half-respected the corp, you wouldn't have blabbed this on the forums, i'm actually quite annoyed as you obviously didn't have all the facts straight on this before you posted.
I respect Caybn's decision and accept it in good graces, 3 cheers buddy for all your hard work, and good luck in future battles, it's been my honour flying and fighting with you.
I will not comment on any other matter as i would be contradicting myself, which would make me look a bit gimpy :D
Good luck to all ex-epic members.
