I thought after the patch there was a 15min time before a ship disapeared when in comabt and scrambled? I ask this because Armageddonpsa came through a gate in his geddon, we dutifully scrambled him and began to shoot him.
http://www.webinventions.co.uk/blade/log1.jpg
He immediatley logged off, and after 47secs or so dissapeared.
http://www.webinventions.co.uk/blade/log2.jpg
So A: its lame logging off (y does everyone do it?) B: what happened to these new timers etc? and it wasnt even 2 minutes

We did, the GM replied that even with the images we provided he/she couldnt do anything and we'd have to file it as a bug report.
We didn't lose anything, it's just the point that the guy was a -10 player, CEO, Had a bounty and logged.

People do it because thjey are presented with a situation where:
A. They have no chance to win, so they sit there and lose 120 million ISK battleship.
B. They log off and save 120 million ISK.
Unless made impossible people will always do it, just because it takes like a week 15 hours a day mining to get enough ISK for a battleship 120m ISK.

First point, insurance 4tw! 33mill lost from a BS + mods (and tbh your only using expensive ones if you can afford to loose them)
Second point, logging off and using the method described earlier to make your ship vanish IS an exploit, and it is in fact sopposed to be impossible for people to vanish in combat, thats why the new 15min timer appeared...
But seriously, they cant tell when a client disconnects and when the ship actually disappears? dosnt this just leave the door wide open to people using this expliot..

The 15 minute timer works, but they still haven't fixed the exploit where people can log off and log in another character to disappear faster.
We had a corp thief pull this on us the other day and disappear after about 35 seconds with 6 ships scrambling him. Didn't save his battleship, but still, what a jerk

1) The PvP timer only works sometimes.
2) Logging off still saves pods.
3) You can still sploit to disappear your ship in seconds.
4) Unlike prepatch, CCP apparently no longer considers logging to an alt to be an exploit, since it was 'fixed'. Yay.
Ctrl+Q 4tw. Again.

I have now removed the cap and added a cpu needed for an XL booster t2.

Wrong, it applies to any form of involvment in PvP, be it you as target or aggressor.
The timer is heavily bugged, I hear a lot of people who still see their targets disappear immedietly and on the other side I know of people who lost their ships (like myself) long time after the 15-20 minutes timer (30-40 minutes) because some ships simply don't disappear at all.

Your all just a bunch of lame ass rats anyway.
PvP timer only kicks in when HE fires at someone, not when u fire upon someone. :)
He logged in his atl char to remove that char from space. To make sure his ship wud live, if he dint he have the standard 60 or so seconds to wait as if hed CTD'd.

Wow, an alt showing his infinite wisdom which, of course, is nonsense.
We had an enemy Claw in local yesterday who warped in at long range. One of our guys got one hit on him before he warped to a safe. He talked a little crap in local before logging. I brought my alt in in a covert ops and tracked his Claw down (his ship was still there more than 2 minutes after logging). We killed it and his pod warped off. Some quick scanning and I found the pod and killed it too.
So, the 15 minute aggression timer does kick in if you are fired on, not only if you fire (which would be stupid, the problem has always been people logging to avoid fights).

No, he logged his alt char to intentionally exploit the system.
I really had thought this particular exploit was fixed. Think we'll give it a test later.

Could anyone explain to me, what the number of people attacking that ship, or the pilots set up has to do with the PVP timer?
Anyways. I see this as one or two things happening. He either logged on an alt, though I thought this was fixed. Or the system is really buggy. The timer maybe some what off, or may not reset if you logg before the combat happens. 45 seconds, is close to the minute that it would normally take for a ship to dissappear. So it is possible, that the timer some how didn't reset to 'PVP' mood after the logg-off.

Well well, this has certainly stirred things up a bit, and yes everyone, I am the player pictured above in Kaleeb's Post
To answer everyone's questions:
1. I am not afraid of what I did, Im not afraid to admit it, I came in after smashing up one of their POS's to see 8 or so players camping the gate, I am still cloaked after coming through
I saw one of two solutions, either i could fight and be sent home via cloning vat, as some would call the "honorable way", or i could turn off eve and see if i would make it ( contradictory to what everyone thinks, I DID NOT log in as an alt, i turned it off, grabbed a sandwich and came back about an hour later to see my geddon in excellent condition)
Cheap Trick? Absoultely, but In my line of work there isnt much Honor and if i see a way to "maybe" live, then ill take it, no matter what image people get, i still have my ship, so go complain to someone else, could this cause CCP retaliation? perhaps, i didnt log in as an alt, I wasnt guaranteed survival, infact i was positive i was gonna wake up in a station somewhere, but im not gonna lie about it, and whether its an exploit or not, Im not sure, I guess if its important the Devs will let me know
And as Lorth mentioned, its like a 60 second time until your ship dissapears, i logged while cloaked coming through the gate, so its probable that i spent 15 of that time cloaked, then u shot me for 45 then poof
If this makes any of you fellow pirates out there upset, then im sorry, but Im not a model for you, i do piracy in my own way, if anyone is completely disgusted with it, then they can come and deal with me themselves, im not hard to find, and if it means anything, when i came back on later that night, I made up for it and me + a few friends, killed 14 of their members, not smacktalk or bragging, but I felt it was neccissary to redeem myself
I hope this answers anything, and let the Flaming + Whining continue Thanks

One other thing, yes most people don't use Cap Relay's on Scorps or Ravens, but some people do. Either way it has nothing to do with this post first off, and second off people set there ships up teh way they want, and lose and win battles do to there setup.

The DEVs arenŠt able to fix this problem for more than 2 years now. Hunderets of lamers already used these "tricks" to safe their ships and they betray other players that way.
But in the end the DEVs are the problem: they...
1.) donŠt want to fix it
or
2.) cannot fix it (problems coding it)
Whatever the reason is: itŠs one of the most anoying parts of EVE. Our corp would never accept such a player.

1. We don't own a POS and there wasn't eight of us in the system let alone on that particular gate.
2. We only have 14 members so chances of you killing all of us in one night were slim and as seen here (http://www.guc.webinventions.co.uk/losses.php) you failed to kill any of our members (let alone this imaginary 14) unless they forgot to post the death/kill mail.
End of the day, we came on here to do two things, the first being to shame a -10 pvp'er in empire who is the CEO of a pvp orientated corporation who log's off at the first sign of trouble. Second to see what other people's views on this regarding your sec status etc, there's a lot of post's on these forums where people have logged in combat but none that I have read have been -10 CEO's.

This is the second or third thread that shows a pretty obvious bug with the PVP timer.
If you log off before you're actually fired upon, the PVP timer never engages, even if you are then fired upon while still in space. Logically it should, but it doesn't seem to. Go check out the FIX Freighter in Distress thread, zactly the same thing there.
I bet CCP'll fix it soon-ish
edit: post PVP timer patch, MASS actually petitioned a player for pulling this crap, and the GM response was quite favourable. We didn't get the normal "nothing we can do stuff", so I kind of assumed it was petitionable now?
