I use a completely different system. My bookmark system is based upon specific routes IN to Empire and OUT to 0.0. The first two letters are the initials for the route. The next two digits are the system number in the route. After that is the current system name. Then after that, is the code for what kind of bookmark it is, IN, SP, OUT, or STATion number. Complex names for STATion from a particular gate are also denoted here. If you can remember that each bookmark route goes IN towards higher security, and out towards lower security, its quite simple. And all of my bookmarks are calibrated to 15km warp in distances.
Examples:
PBa01 Nonni IN PBa01 Nonni OUT PBa01 Nonni SP PBa02 Elonaya IN PBa02 Elonaya OUT PBa02 Elonaya SP
[P]ure[B]lind route [a] Jump[##] [System-name] [IN/OUT/SP]
I started creating bookmarks with coded prefaces because I got tired of folder crashes, leaving me with unorganized chaos in my bookmark window. This way its easy to find them and rapidly group them and move them to the appropriate folder.
The other reason is because its very easy and quick to create a bookmark with these simple protocols. In 8 simple steps:
- Position your ship 11km directly behind Gate lined up with warp-origin
- Create Bookmark [eg. "spot in Nonni solarsystem"]
- Delete [spot in]
- Paste [Bookmark trail initials]
- Type Jump number [##]
- Delete [solarsystem]
- Type Jump type [IN/OUT/SP]
- Hit ENTER
The whole process takes only seconds once your in position, to create a 15km bookmark behind a gate.
In the case of stations, because they are so large, I usually bookmark from a visual center on the opposite side of the station because you can't rely on 'distance' from the station.
And I usually denote what system the station bookmark is coming from such as: PBa02 Non - 10/11 Where it would be a bookmark in Elonaya from the Nonni Gate to the Station orbiting planet X moon 11.

Or you could just re-name them yourself...
As has been stated some poeples systems are highly personalised and don't make sense to to others...

That works untill you have 5k bms in and around empire and are constantly crossing routes. The numerical system has the same problem. If you jump into a system from a gate where 2 routes cross and dont have the entire route memorized.......you don't know which BM goes to which gate.
If you ever drive the bus for a fleet you can understand how critical precisely named, easily indexed bm's can be. It's one thing to screw up and lose your ship. It's a whole nother thing to screw up and make 20 of your buds lose thiers too.

@ CCP plz consider making the folders you put bookmarks in serverside instead of local... if you get a HDD crash or smth, you are seriously f$#!@%
Actualy I think bm's should be client side. Would reduce server load HUGELY and allow out of game BM trading as well as encourage people to backup their data

this is how i do it
name of destination jump number/direction. Below are some examples
Orv3/> this means 3rd jump on the route to orv Hq This leads to the main station in this system
So an example of a rout could be a 3 jump move you start at the starting systems Hq ending at orv's Hq.
Orv1/> orv2/> orv/> HQ
and to return just do this Orv1/< orv2/< orv3/< HQ
Pretty simple way of doing it really its how i like it what do you thing its short and simple.

Its actually amusing to have labeling standards to one of the easiest scams doable in the game.
IF you buy your bookmarks from one reputable creator then im fairly sure you are familiar with the format he/she is using.
IF you buy your bookmarks from the cheapest source available then give me the region you want covered and I'll sell you a full set for 1mil per system.
In short, sure its a good Idea that the people that are reutable use a standard format but why bring it upp on the forum, tell the people who you buy the bookmarks from!
------------ 20. Is it true all pvpers have carebear alts? Yes, of course. I have so much fun looking up who's alt is who's
