CCP Fozzie wrote:Tippia wrote:I wonder what the breakdown between servers and games isGǪ To be clear, the 500k number includes both our TQ and Serenity (Chinese) servers, but only includes subscribing EVE Online accounts, not Dust accounts. Yeah, I misread it at first. Still, I'm guessing it's roughly 4:1 between the two? Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

EnderCapitalG wrote:"Subscribers" is wholly misleading. You do not have 500,000 subscribers Of course they do. How many of those are unique is a different question. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

Mhax Arthie wrote:So there are 500K accounts and ~50K players online every day. This means each of us would have around 10 account. Man... this is serious boting :| No, it really doesn't. It just means that most players do not religiously log on every day at peak hours. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

Takseen wrote:Does anyone have survey numbers, or will we have to resort to anecdotes and hearsay? Surveys ask about it, but I have never seen any numbers on it being published. The best guesstimates anyone has been able to offer is ~2 accounts per person, but that was eons ago and good luck not just finding the thread, but finding any of the data that is still relevant today.
And anyway, it doesn't make much difference. They've always counted accounts, with PCUs as a secondary measure of activity. Both are up. You'd have to perform some pretty impressive mental gymnastics to turn it into something bad.

Peak login is at what, 55-60k on TQ?
500K subs? Yes? And? It's about the same PCUs we had the last time TQ sat at 400k+ subscribers. So where's the BS?
Quote:I wont waste my time explaining why that's an illogical argument. Good. Wasting time on trying to explain why black is white just makes you look silly. But then, so does posting things that look like rebuttals when they're actually not.
Quote:Let's just wait for CCP to release the figures...which they won't do. What figures are you talking about? The PCUs? We have them already. The subscription numbers? We have those too, fresh of the presses. Historical figures? Have themGǪ and without much reason to assume that the subscriber behaviour has changed in the meantime, we have all we need.
What is it you're after, really? Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

Vincent Athena wrote:As CCP is not releasing these numbers it seems that they would cast the current game activity in a poor light if they did. They published the one number that made it look like the game was doing well, and hid all the ones that would make it look bad. Welcome to corporate communication.
But yes, by the looks of it, TQ subscriber numbers are up significantly, roughly to where they were during the heydays of early 2011. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

Vincent Athena wrote:The PCU is near a record. And its up despite the war on bots. The last PCU record was set when bots were far more rampant than now, and were staying on en-mass 23/7. Its quite likely we have broken the record for peak concurrent Valid subscriptions.
Also the weekly PCU for Serenity is 25% of TQ, so the 400K / 100k split seems about right. This is roughly my ballpark-figure thinking as well. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

DarthNefarius wrote:There isin Dr E's last QEN a statement that Eve averages 2 characters per account... don't know if thatwas what you were remembering? No, that was based on actual data they could easily pull from the servers. I'm thinking about a guesstimate someone did across a couple of NPC and player corps.

Natsett Amuinn wrote:It suspect TQ didn't see a big jump and is still sitting around 350k, and it's Serenity that's seeing the boom and has gone from a little under 100k a few months ago to almost 150k now. Unless player behaviour has drastically changed for no apparent reason, the activity numbers wouldn't really support that suspicion.
If that were the case, chinese players have suddenly chosen not to play any more even though they're buying tons of accounts, and TQ players are suddenly playing a whole lot more without any corresponding increase in number of active accounts. Neither makes sense given how people have historically approached the game. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

Natsett Amuinn wrote:From what I've heard, from people who have access to Serenity, the server is throttled. More subscribers may not mean a higher PCU, because the server may not allow for more. That would be part of an explanation, if true, but the active population on SR has gone down if you look at the graphs. That's why I'm talking about a drastic change in player behaviour (which would be even more drastic if it's actually throttled): a 50% increase in players (from the last time we tried to guess this) have led to a 20% decrease in activity. That would mean players have responded to more people GÇö i.e. more world content GÇö by halving their active play time.
Quote:Do we have a chart for TQ's server activity from the month of december to now? You can just look at EVEOffline, or compare the 2012 and the the 2013 numbers I've collected if you want something with all the noise filtered out.
For a quick reference, compare the Friday (blue) and Sunday (red) lines before and after Retribution. Before, Sundays GÇö consistently the highest-populated day of the week GÇö struggled somewhere between 45k and 50k. Afterwards, Fridays GÇö normally the least-populated day of the week GÇö do the same, but much closer to the 50k line. That's a consistent ~20% increase right there. If this has spilled over into (re)activated accounts, that would mean an increase from 350k:ish to 420k:ish (again, assuming the normal player behaviour that has pretty consistently made PCUs and subs covariate for as long back as I have seen official numbers).
