I'm sure I will burn a PLEX and watch the HD stream. This thread is more of a question from those deciding if they should or not. With so many aspects of the game players are interested in, what could they see that would make them excited? So CCP people, any hints at all? Please. Anything to make the players jump out of their chair and shout, "**** yeah!"

It had usually some awesome presentations. You should know that. You can watch on youtube old presentations.
ps: they want money for live stream? lol ... but there are certainly enough dumb people, especially in MMO community. So yep, good thing - for CCP. |

What do you get to watch for a plex exactly?
I haven't really been keeping up with any of the fanfest promotional stuff.
Edit: Obviously it'll be presentations, but which ones? Is a plex for each one or does a plex get you a stream of them all? |

They want PLEX, actually. Completely different kettle of fish. You can stand to make back WAY more than that PLEX cost you if you are crafty on how you speculate on the various announcements when you see them.
Plus they often give out a free in-game T-shirt worth a few hundred mil with the livestream.

Not to put to fine a point on it, but last time I burned a hand full of PLEX to watch the stream and came out way ahead when I sold the extra stuff that came with it. I made all my ISK back plus about another 80%.

Why go?
Because it's fun to hang out with EVE nerds. Because the (non-broadcast) roundtables are often more informative than the large presentations. And because you can't gatecamp Greyscale and inundate him with questions on minutiae on the internet.
Also, last time, we got cake. Vote Malcanis for CSM8. |

Last year we got a Quafe edition Iteron Mark IV, too.
But generally, the things you will want to subscribe to the HD feed for are the better quality video and sound (which does make a difference when it comes to presentations with lots of charts and diagrams).
As for attending or watching in the first place, the two activities are entirely different kettles of fish. I would go so far to say that if you are attending FanFest and going to more than half of the presentations, you are wasting your time! The most important thing to do at FanFest if you are there in person is to meet other people. Say hello, then retreat back into your sociopathic hermit shell as you sit across the table from each other desperately trying to think of something witty and clever to say.
For the people who can't come, the main purpose of watching the feeds will be to remain informed, and to productively participate in the "yes it is"/"no it isn't" debate on the forums and Twitter. That is, participating in those conversations which you can have through your anonymous forum alt that you would never have with a real live person (see previous paragraph).
But above all else, you participate in FanFest in some way or another because you really like the virtual world that you share with all these people you hate but would love to get to know. Because being EVE players we understand that you can simultaneously want to smash someone's space empire into a billion sharp little pieces while simultaneously wanting to hug them in person and buy them a [beverage of choice].

Well, A: to watch it, see the market trends, whats coming next expansion, and what they want to do 10 years from now and some painted up ship you can sell to get your plex back. (really, dev blogs will cover most of this fast enough but the HD feed can pay for itself so no big reason not to)
B: to go there, get thrashed at a techno sausage fest in another country. (likely still pretty fun) |

I think he has a point actually.
I'm sure its all wonderful and everything if you're there but the streams I've seen in the past are pretty much full of drunk people.
I think I'd probably just wait for the "cleaned-up" versions rather than pay a month's subs (or however many PLEX it is) to watch it "live". I have no problem with drunk people but I'm not paying to watch them
YMMV of course. |

In my mind if you love the game you should atleast go once.
Iceland is a pretty cool place, and you;ll be surrounded with alot of fairly like minded people, not to mention getting to meet some of real faces behind all the names you've been playing alongside for however many years.
I went in 07 and loved it. hopefully i'll get the opportunity to go again someday.
oh and you drink alot while your there :).
Note: if they still do the trip to the blue lagoon, don;t get too drunk before that or you're not allowed to go..... oops :s |

I struggle to see how anyone can really get the most out of any MMO without liking atleast some of the people you play alongside. But your free to make that choice. Personally there are alot of players within EVE i consider to be my friends and it is a pleasure to be able to meet them RL.
I'm be inclined to point you towards the X universe games if your opinion of the EVE player base is really that low. |

So nope. I know what i'm talking about. GǪso your conclusion is that the devs are all drunk and on drugs and that their presenting the future of EVE isn't interesting. Because that's what the feeds contain. For the drunk parts, you'll have to go to some of the more odd-ball events.
Aragoni wrote:Why you should go to Fanfest? To see peoples salty tears IRL. It's a miracle noone has been murdered at Fanfest yet. Not really, no. The only GǣmiracleGǥ (to completely butcher the word) is that some people think that in-game actions have any bearing on real-life behaviourGǪ and that the same people have this weird tendency to then accuse other players of psycho- and sociopathic tendencies. I don't see how a game that isn't even released yet can be considered doing well. Open Betas are always overhyped.
Also I'm not big on FPSs so I really could careless about DUST. The reason I dislike it is CCPs intent on trying to force it down Eve players throats.
