Ive had trouble finding a crew that plays together in a strategic way. Every corp and fleet Ive been in has just been a collection of solo players rolling together, instead of considering roles and battle plans. It always just turns into a blob fest. As for trying to play solo - I'd say 1 in 5 fights I would find people would engage me solo, the other 4 fast tackled and 3 cynibals warp in - or Im in a frig in a small plex - frig lingers at the gate for 1 min then 15 dessies warp to gate lol... So yeah, I dont see it dishonorable :D
Anyways I'm still looking for advice |

The old reliable Anything + Falcon combo seems to still be popular.... Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

To answer your question, though, many people who "solo" through multiboxing typically use:
- A kiting or otherwise fast ship for their "main" ship. It's a personal choice, and everyone likes something different. A faction or T2 ship is preferred, though. (Unless you're going for looking weak to trick people into engaging you)
- One (or two, if you're really rich) off-grid boosters. Loki is greatly preferred for its skirmish boosts, and the second booster (if you're using it) should match the tank on your ship (Tengu = shield, Legion = armor)
- Neutral scout. Just an extra character in a throwaway ship to jump in ahead of your other characters, making you immune to gate camps.
- Falcon (or other cloaky electronic warfare ship)
- If you're really good at multitasking, another combat ship, or a logistics (remote repair) ship
The advantages are that you will be deceptively powerful. You may be in just another frigate, but you move much faster, tank much better, can point from much farther, can run away from inconvenient situations much better, can completely neutralize several ships (with jams), etc. This will lead to an impressive-looking killboard of tons of 1v1 or 1v2 or other fights which make you look like a spectacular PvPer.
However, doing this has several disadvantages (as you may have spotted from the comments in the post):
- It's expensive. If you can afford that with PLEX or $$, no problem, but still.
- Taxing on hardware. Again, solved by throwing more $$ at it.
- Cripples the variety of PvP you get to experience by making stuff too safe (see: bonus speed, tackle range, neutral scout, extra tank, etc, which are all achieved via alts). I personally don't do it because I do not want to trade excitement derived from risk, for the pure tedium of moving a zillion alts around.
- People will hate you. No, really. I'm not kidding. Pure, abject hate. Especially if you claim you're "solo", because you're not.
- People will deny you fights. I will personally not engage in what looks like a "fair" fight if i see random neutrals suspiciously sitting in local, and definitely not if I pick up a Loki on scan. If I'm leading a fleet, I will generally purposefully just tell people to ignore you and let you play "safe PvP", unless...
- ... Unless I can blob you with pure overwhelming force. Nothing beats the satisfaction of hearing someone complain about how throwing down excessive ewar or other stuff on their "solo" ship is unfair, or how I should man up and "fight fair".
So again, my advice? Don't. Find a proper PvP corp who runs organized gangs. Rifterlings - small gang frigate PvP - lowsec FW operation, newbie-friendly, free ship program; Join today! www.rifterlings.com

Anything big with sentry drones.
Log them all in and warp them in a fleet to where you need them. Then set the sentry drones to Assist a lead ship. Have all the drone ships sensor boost the lead ship and give remote ECCM support. Give reps to the lead ship and run local reps on the drone ships.
Now you are set and can lock onto anything with your lead ship and all the drone ships will assist you with their sentry drones. The more drone ships you have the more DPS you get and with a higher volley will it become almost impossible to stop you.
Get your characters into battleships and later into carriers aka "Slowcats".
And do not forget to offer your fleet as a service to anyone willing to pay your prices. Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling. |
