Ok, I should probably know this considering how long I have been in game. i have seen a few references to viewing the market screen in "map mode" but have been unable to figure out what this function is. So what the hell is it?

Well I for one don't know what you mean. Other than filtering the map for station services, it would be new to me.

There used to be a facility that in the market details of the item you were looking at, there were three tabs instead of 2. Supply, Demand and History. Now we just get market data and Price History.
Under each of the old tabs Supply and Demand, you could view a region wide map (taken from the world map) which would show you where in the region the item was being sold, how much it was getting sold for, and how much was being sold (by the colour and intensity of the 'glow' round the star).
I very much miss this, but I haven't seen it since before the last time I came back, before Christmas 04.

Aha, that explains it then. Well its a shame is gone as it sounds like a useful function.

It had it's own slew of problems - Of which some where exploited.
Like hiding orders with 1 unit orders at low/high prizes etc etc.
The current UI is far superior.

..but thinking about it, an F10 map view that showed total market trades by isk value would be fantastic.

Wow that brings back memories! Thats cool. I hope they bring that back. The 1 isk buy order would be fun intoday game since you are limited by order count. Also would be cool to have all our skills using it.
I believe they created our skills based off the map. Where you would click to setup buy orders from the map. The visibility would of worked in the map. I guess the UI guys thought that was too hard to do at the time.

I loved the market map view. It was incredibly useful. why it vanished, I don't understand. It seemed to me to be the better of the market view and the F11 side map view. Why not re-implement it, I wonder?
Sure did make it much easier to check routes to get stuff. Oh well, even if they don't bring that back at least we don't have to hit "sort by type" 1000 times a day anymore.
