Is there anyway of giving items to another character without having to form a contract and paying broker's fees. I'm particularly thinking of between alts. I know I could dump stuff in a container then pick it up later if it's still there. |

There aren't simple convenient ways to do this with characters on the same account. You might give thought to making a corporation and renting an office. That gives you corporation hangar, which you can use to easily trade equipment. It'll still cost you though and personal corps aren't ideal, so it might be worse then using contracts. Personally I'd just keep any item transfers to absolute minimum, liquidate non-essential assets and just transfer ISK as needed. |

1.) Contracting (as you already said). 2.) Direct trading (if on 2 accounts and in same station) 3.) Corp hangar 4.) Can in space. |

OK thanks for that. I think it'll be mostly giving ISK then. Cheers. |

A private item transfer contracts costs only 10 thousand ISK. It's really not expensive, even for a noob.
But you can "dual-box", meaning you run two simultaneous instances of the EVE client, logging into each instance with a different one of your accounts, then use the "Trade" function when both characters are docked in the same station. It requires that each character resides on a different account, and that both accounts are paid subscribers, i.e. aren't still on trial status, with all the limitations that that entails.

May I add that you need to be extremely careful while doing station trading with other players. There is a high risk of being scammed. There are many ways in which this can be done: giving you zero ISK, giving you a defective product, giving you a different product etc.
Do NOT trust any station trade, and INSIST on others making a contract for such trade. If the other player does not want to use contracts, he/she is a scammer. Happiness is a warm gun, mama. |

Fixed it.
Not doing contracts doesn't make you a scammer.

Same thing, different context.

It's true that it's only very likely a scam but you're just splitting hairs, really. I'd highly recommend to all the new players to never use direct trade with anyone but yourself between two alts. If you have two methods of trade, one secure, one non-secure, why would you ever trade with the non-secure one, especially in a game where scamming is legal?
Don't take the risk. Re-elect Trebor Daehdoow for a stronger CSM 8. |
