I miss the days where the Surgical Strike damage bonus grew exponentially with each weapon and damage mod fitted, the days before ammo range modifiers worked, the days where tracking didn't matter. There was just something about an Armageddon with 7 Heavy Mod Energy Beams and 8 Extruded Heatsinks, firing every 2 seconds with a damage mod of 18X and never missing anything from 40KM with Multifrequency Crystals that brought a huge grim to my face.
Damn, we've come a long way since then. Kinda makes current balance debates seem rather moot.

Agreed that t2 has messed up pvp (and eve), these days combat and politics are just basically survival of the richest/longest-playing.
CM kessies made a good anti oretheif measure too

All you could do in EVE back then, you can do now.
As for PVP, it was far more unbalanced, and gank-setups were easier to create. It's only because the concept of the gankageddon and such hadn't surfaced yet that this nostalgia is seeping in.
I still remember the time when remote sensor dampeners caused people to CTD. Saying the game hasn't improved just isn't right. All that's happened is that you've grown jaded. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."
"No, it's none of your business." |

Edited by: Balklanac on 17/08/2005 01:11:03 Edited by: Balklanac on 17/08/2005 01:09:28 I mined bistot, crokite in my vigil not very profitable less than 9 units per cs.Vent to the outer ring as well and did it.Remeber I was traveling side by side against a hostile crow..for 9 jumps.Locked me a couple of times but I was to fast.Fun.Not all alliances seem escort their industrials that far out.
So what I did I decided to set-up a ming op.Set up instas safe spots brought in a secure cargo container.Found a nice unpopulated obsidian ochre system. And never mined again.Minig boring..maybe later when my skill are better and when I can fly a barge(the cheapest one of course).
edit:did this about a month ago

I agree. EVE was more fun back in the good old days. I was flying alone in alliance controlled teritory (as neutral) and there was never a huge ganksquad moving arround. Sometimes I met a pirate flying solo (!) and had a nice fight (or I ran). I loved the small skirmishes with 5 Ships on either side wich lasted for 5-10 mins.

100%
The days were antimatter was the only choice cause the damage mods for different ammo works but range penalty in decription does not work at all!!!
The sense of this 3d should be: "Why, after 20M skillpoints added to my char, i fell myself less powerful than 2 years ago?"

I remember getting thirteen guys together from completely different corps and going to a deadend empire system with Megacyte and Bistot. We tried to mine and hold off an NPC cruiser spawn and we got a few ships blown up. I lost my prized probe. My consolation prize was I got to keep one of the 650mm projectile cannons the rats drop. I saved it for months to mount on my stabber with great pride.
I actually like Eve better now. The playerbase is just coming to grips with owned/defended systems and the PVP vs. Industrial demographics. I would hate to step backwards.

I missed the days where you were uber if you had a cruiser and when you saw a battleship, your jaw dropped and you started drooling.
Remember seeing my first bs, was an arma when a bunch of us were attacking some ruined npc station.

Originally by: Tenacha Khan CCP should never have introduced techII and the age of gank
pvp was alot more fun and skillfull in the gemini period, piracey was more fun and there were bounty hunters to have fun with.
Now its gank teams of pirates, alliances, bounty hunters and mercs flying about with all ganksetups and little skill.
People were alot more fun back then, there was not this fear of 0.0 and low sec that there is now, even though there is less to fear now.
I still enjoy the game now, but the pvp sux
I totaly agree with you. T2 items bah, why didn't they add more gun types or different ships instead. I was realy dissapointed with the creative thought of this game got ruined with those t2 items ( different texture on old module/ship, add the II icon, whoila new item )and re appearance of gank setups.
