I remember my old Megathronsetup with 4x 425mm, 2x 250mm, 2x heavy luncher. Because it didnt got ueber PG.
I also remember haveing a semitanked ship in Fleetbattles and not only pure gankage.
I also remember my dual MWD Cruiser and BS,which were fun and gave you different options to attack someone.
In former days, you could choose the range thing, the closecombat thing, the Cavalery (dual MWD) tactic, the Cruiser assault squads and dunno what else.
Today anything is based around ganking and it bores me to hell. Sure its fun to hit 400-500 dmg avarage on a Mega with 4,5 sec rof. But i hate not having the possibility to alternate my setups.
Blasterthron sux 99% of the time, because any gankship will kill you if you are farer away than 15km, which should be the perfect start for a closerange ship. Probably even kill you when you have any advantages on your side.
NOS arent a valiable option against BS, because you will be dead before you have nosed his cap. NOS are atm only good against smaller Vessels.
Cruiser are dead meat 99% of the time and not worth the efforts.
I would like to be given more options to fight someone, or atleast the same amount of options i had 6 months ago.
What would i like or better where are the current problems?
First there are the fast locking BS. 2 or more Sensorbooster, which give you almost instalock on BS and cruisers. But how to change. I like the general idear of having a negative effect on any positiv effect you get. Nerfing items imo is the wrong way, so give items negative effects, you have to consider using them.
Sensorbooster II atm give a targeting range bonus of -60 % and a scan resolution bonus of -60 %. What about giving also a Signature Increas for your ship, like active sonar for submarine. You activate it to get a faster lock on your target and beeing able to shoot farer away, thats cool for me. But add a signature increase.
This will fasten the target locking too and give him better target resolution for his guns -> better hits.
Iam sure in several situations this modul still will be used, but probably also will be not on auto and with drawbacks.
Iam not sure what for negative effects they should get. Probably something like cap increase on any weapon used. Signature increase on weapons, but this ofc would need alot of tweaking. Or reducing your Sensorstrength and would make you more vulnerable for EW.
This should be done for most modules with are overused and "too" powerfull. Also EW should have a backdraw. Probably same effect like Sensorboosters. "Your high ECM output makes you an easy target for any ship, as long it is not jammed"
The worst way to go is to nerf more modules. Dont nerf them, give them backdraws. Give us options, dont take them us away.
Sorry for my rant, but i felt it was necessary for me. Iam bored of the current PvP system, but i love this game and i want to do any thing i could to improve it.
I think the easiest solution to these problems is an increase in stacking penalty for most med slot devices. That way BS will have to choose between instant locking and not so good tracking, and uber tracking with just a fast lock time (like 1.5 or 2 seconds).
The modules I think need an increase in stacking penalty are:
- Sensor boosters - Tracking computers/enhancers - Low slot damage mods
For sensor boosters I'd like to have it that 3 do as good as 2 do today. Tracking computers and low slot damage mods could be the same.
The ideas you have about adding a downside to these mods are fine on a battle ship, but would just kill their usefullness on smaller ships. Imagine an EW cruiser with a sensor booster being even more vulnerable than it allready is.
