This has probably been covered at some point, can someone give me an idea of the best way to bookmark a stargate/station so that im not 15k from them? I've done it a few times and have gotten lucky sometimes.. then other times they just dump me 15k or more away still.
Thanks :)

Warp to at 15 KM, when come out of warp click to go just under or over gate as close as possible on same line you warped in on. Click on stargate/station and watch as counter reaches 0 then goes back to 10KM as soon as it hits 10KM make BM.
Note: open up BM prior to getting near to 10KM and fix label but don't click on OK until at 10KM as when you click OK this is where bm is created.

Edited by: Quanteeri on 17/08/2005 18:18:00 I usually shoot past the gate, as explained above, but go out to about 18km, then slowly track back toward the gate, while aligning the stargate icons in space. As soon as the distance to the gate changes from 15km to 14km, I push the Create Bookmark button, and stop ship. Fill in the text. Go back to map the return route, then test. I suggest using a fast frigate, something that can get to warp in case unsavory characters show up. And I always make a safe spot in the system first.
Usually, if I get them right, I will land inside the gate.

With the new larger stations, those instadocks are easy. When you undock, make a bookmark.

You have to make a different bookmark for each start point to end point. A bookmark from Gate1 to Station4 will NOT work if you are at Gate2 and want to go to Station4, you'll often end up some 20-30km from the station instead of right on it.

The principal is really quite easy.
When you fly to any target you choose the distance from it where you will arrive. This will always be <some distance> short of the actual location. To get an insta BM all you do is make the BM <some distance> beyond where you want to actually be.
The one wrinle to be aware of (though it ought really to be obvious to anyone) is that the accuracy of the insta is direction dependant. If you are approaching a gate from the opposite direction your 15km insta will drop you 30km from the gate. This is because you get the 15km 'overfly' needed to make the BM added to the 15km 'underfly' imposed by the Warp To command.
In quite a few cases a gate insta will work adequately from several departure points but often you need a separate BM for each departure point.
Stations used to be a bit like that but recent changes to their radius mean that it's not too hard to create a universal insta. Making the BM as soon as you undock will probably do the trick most of the time but us professionals prefer the hand crafted approach :) -- (Battle hardened miner)
