Wow - all I got to say is some of you guys have *way* too much disposable income
Server came up, with really nice robotics supply across the Lonetrek region. There was me thinking - wahay, at last a chance to make some "really good" trade runs. Within less than three minutes (the time taken for me to get to a system with supply, since the remote buy wasn't working correctly) ALL supply across the entire Lonetrek region at the low price had been bought...
That was ~ 750M ISK outlay ....
Come on guys - give the rest of us a *chance* at least

Its getting hard to find anything in Eve to do now a days. You got to feel sorry for the new players cause to be honest theres nothing to do to make money anymore. Suply and demand should be sorted so it doesnt always reset after downtime. Also traders are getting it far to easy at the moment. Get rich quick with no risk. I say let the Pirates back in to empire space.

That assumes you have a decent amount of ISK in reserve of course ...
I just found it a little disconcerting to see 750M worth of robotics supply dissapear in < 3 minutes - and presumably these weren't all pre-placed buy orders since it was too long after the server had come up for that

There ARE other items to trade in than robos. Robos use up lots of m3 in your cargohold. Try finding other stuff, smaller or on shorter jumps. Yesterday I found a solid short route in LT - payed 300k every two jumps. Ran it arround ten times.
This is just an example of opportunities. Also, get an excel sheet together and start writing down supply/demand and prices in different regions. You'll be surprised at the opportunities you can find ;) //snaazex

I'm not sure about this, but I think that in the current system you can only fix the market in downtime. And I think that they're working on a system so the market is "fixed" throughout the day. Just a rumour I heard so it might not be true, but I guess that would fix the problem.

Not sure I go along with that Setec... pirates in empire space hinder *all* trade, not just the obscene stuff.
I do agree, there is too little risk at the moment in trading though. I'd like to see the game balance shift to *drive* people out of empire space a bit more for the profitable goods, rather than pirates back in areas where they shouldn't be operating. Pirates had it way too easy before
I used to not bother trading up in the top of Lonetrek when MOo were around - and I also had to ditch my agent missions in that area. Just wasn't worth going up there ...

Though I hate to agree with TTI, there are good trade routes. This is the same as saying, "Why use any kinda gun except (gun-of-the-week)?"
I've gone to regions where there is a low population of pilots and have made millions. You need to find them.
However, once you have found a run it's a cake walk. Way too easy. Really, get rid of the jumpgate guns in low sec space.

I know - I run those routes also... but it would be nice to make the odd robotics run at least
They should shift the supply of big profit items out into non empire space a bit though to help out those pirates. Make the risks for higher profits a bit more realistic.

You're right off course... Too bad there is not a better diversified market.
The odd "super opportunity" should be there once in a while. But not all the time and not with the same goods constantly. Imo, the market should fluctuate, both in number of units demanded/supplied and in prices. You KNOW robos are at 6500 and you KNOW you can sell for 6760... //snaazex

The market isn't completely fixed. It may be, as I suspect, bugged.
I'm in a region. I start my day immediately after downtime looking at the market. I see a trade route. I hop in my industrial and begin running the trade route. I do this during the day while at work as it requires 0 attention.
But around noon I notice something: The station where I'm based out of now has demand at the highest NPC value in the region. WTF? Okay, reroute because it cuts down a 12 jump trip to 6 jumps between supply and demand. About 3 hours later, another curveball: Supply appears in the exact same system as the demand I'm now exploiting. Not a massive supply. But supply that did not exist that morning. And it wasn't player supply.

Actually, as has been mentioned numerous times before (by others than myself) I'd also like to see trade goods incorporated into manufacturing.. would bolster player driven demand for items, and help to maintain constant demand throughout uptime.
Probably too fundamental a change to be implemented in reality though, as would require a complete rework of the BOM for items

It isn't lack of pirates that has done this, it's the highway gates. Before you could place a buy order for all the robotics and you wouldn't have a chance in hell of transporting them to the sell regions before the next refresh came along. As a result there were routes for everyone - not all the same route and not all of the time, but enough to keep everyone happy. Now a buyer can happily clean out a region AND transport them before the next refresh (which is generally a few days for a complete blow out). Many routes are 1/4 of what the used to be in terms of jumps, or even less.
There are better commodities than robotics and there are a few that are worse, but still worth doing. Problem is these are also generally bought out too. Essentially the difference in prices between buy and sell is no longer justified based on the effort required to shift them.
And you can bet people with the money and the inclination will do this until the market gets a close look from CCP. Large corps and people with money should always have an advantage when it comes to trade, what is happening now though is that (a bit like the office space problem) people who saw the issue coming up are actually cutting everyone else out of the market completely not just having an advantage.

Hehe...nice try.
Although I must say that pirate presence in empire space would probably not affect the ones who have the capital to do this trading. Those are usually the savvy ones, who know how to bypass a blockade.
There may be a *slight* imbalance in trading, yes. Probably needs some tweaking...just like the sentry guns do. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

Quote: rather than pirates back in areas where they shouldn't be operating. Pirates had it way too easy before
No, they really didn't. PKs had it pretty easy, pirates still had a fairly balanced challenge. It was still more difficult and dangerous to make isk as a pirate operating in low sec empire space than it was to make the same amount of isk as a miner, trader, manufacturer, or NPC-hunter. I tried all of those professions (except manufacturer) before becoming a pirate, and each one let me make easier, safer, faster money than pirating.
The primary problem before was that overpowered weapons upgrades and later the bugged surgical strike skill allowed PKs (the ones who just shoot to kill immediately instead of robbing) to kill people in just a few second, before they even had a chance to react. Those things were properly nerfed, and that would have solved the only real pirate problem.
Low security empire space SHOULD contain player pirates because a) they're the ONLY risk element affecting commodity trading and b) it makes the game boring forcing them into predictable 0.0 chokepoint locations all the time. As a pirate I just don't have the options I used to--I used to like watching trade good supply and demand maps to find where traders were actively working, then find a good low sec gate along the way to set up an ambush and wait for those fat bestowers to roll in. It was an interesting challenge and gave me a lot of variety in locations.
Now I'm limited to far lower, far less lucrative traffic, such that there is really absolutely no hope for a player pirate to come close to the income of competent high-end ore miners. Seriously, just try it for a while if you don't believe me. It is hands down, by far, the most difficult way to make good money in this game. ___________________________________________

Actually this is quite amusing, I know robos are 6110, and I know that there are also places I can sell for 7116. Even better I know where there are places that sell for 6110 close to places where TTi members buy for 6505

robotics is an exploit right now, some wealthy people are making over 100m a day by drying out the supply in a whole region.
and the thing is: NO RISK! absolutly NO risk!
wtg CCP for putting sentries everywhere :/
Now some individuals have billions of isk for being afk. Can you tell me what the point is in manufacturing/pirating/bounty hunting etc. if its this easy to earn cash? No risk, no usage of intelligence, no work. so why should other people actually DO something to earn cash while others just make 500m+ each day by being afk.
Robotics should be nerfed, market refreshment should be distributed over the day and something should be done about people buying ALL the robotics on the market at once. This and a lot of other thing should be done to balance the economy.
I traded robotics for 2m+ trade on 4 jumps a few days ago right after downtime! 4 jumps = 5-10 minutes!! continue nerfing piracy and pvp while people exploit the market, wtg. -

Setec - you are right. A distinction should be made between "piracy" and the general griefing that some like to call piracy..
Also, I would agree that low sec empire space should be more risky than it is currently, but it shouldn't be a walk in the park for the pirates either. It should be a "middle ground" where both parties and traders etc have a harder time than they would in their ideal zones.
FYI, when the sentry guns were implemented I suggested a skill tree which would allow pirates to "hack" sentry gates to get in and out, with difficutly linked to the sec status of the system. I also suggested a hacking skill for the secure cans. Sadly I haven't heard anything further on those suggestion, but I think they would enhance the pirate career choice immensely.
Do you not see shifting the supply of more profitable goods into higher risk areas and non empire space as a viable alternative to opening up empire space to these grief tactics again. It's difficult to balance game dynamics in a way that allows legitimate ( !!) pirate activities whils't preventing outright grief tactics.

Pirates back in Empire space would force traders to put more effort into making isk. Anyone that doesn't believe there would be a serious decline in supply purchase doesn't remember beta very well.
Stavros blocked a major demand point for plutonium during beta. Finding supplies of plutonium wasn't difficult as people knew if they had no way to protect it, they might as well just send Stavros and others their isk. The daring risked it and still made a profit from when he couldn't catch them. The prepared came in with assault ships and tried pushing through the blockades (not sure how many were successful). But the point is:
With a known threat between the supply and the demand, many would not take the risk.
If people are unwilling or unable to be a good trader, they should not be entitled to the reward a good trader makes. Its that simple. A good trader covers his bases and will make good income despite the occasional loss. A good trader will have the skills and equipment to make running a blockade a viable option. A good trader will know the tactics needed to increase their chances of running a blockade.
Same way a good fighter can take on more pirate npc cruisers simultaneously solo than a mediocre one (my record so far is 8 depredators). Same way a good manufacturer is still making isk despite the market slump. The same way a good miner or mining corporation are the ones that come back safely with megacyte in their holds.
The people that object to the pirates as an obstacle to overcome are just attempting to protect an easy gravy train to isk. The highways did have an effect on trade, making it quicker. But moreso the removal of pirates as an obstacle vastly increased the amount of isk people invested in trade. People would not sink 100 million isk into robotics while a credible threat is between them and the demand. Maybe a hold or two full at a time, yes. But not attempt to buy out the entire region when they face the possibility that they won't be able to deliver it safely for some time.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann

Legit trade HAS and IS the most profitable thing you can do, both in real life and EVE.
Why is that hard to understand?
Personally I haven't traded much, making 100m a day seems a bit much but hey... pizza places are making a 90% profit every time they sell a pizza.

I have been watching it for a little while now, and what I see happening is this: They have been playing the game long enough that they already know on what day exactly where the supply and where the demand is going to be. They buy up a supply ahead of time, and move it throughout the day to where the high demand will be at since it is at the same place at regular intervals. They then wait for the servers to come back up and sell the supply that they have moved immediatly. Most of the smart corps dont make that big race to the stations with loads of indys right after the servers come up, because they also know that all of the pirates ( and wannabe pirates) are out at that time looking for victims.
They then have the leisure to move their cargo throughout the day to the area where the big demand will be the next day, and they are less at risk, because it is not at the same area where the pirates are looking for the big demand. What they need to do, is to change the areas, where the big price demand will be at,in a more random manner. That way they wont have it allready sitting there to sell, while everyone else is trying to race to the high demand area. I think that ccp also needs to find a way to make it so that the supply is refreshed at different times besides the way it is now, right after downtime. That seems to favour mainly the Europeans. The servers come back up at 2:00 am in my time zone, which makes it a bit of a pain for me to take advantage of the refreshing of supplies, as well as buying blueprints or new items on the market. Not to mention trying to sell minerals without having to make a few jumps.

Why not just move the cheaper suplies of robotics deep into the 0.0 security space? Than all those super rich traders will have to put up with pirates to transport their stuff into stations with high price demand.
The cheap production in unregulated space is pretty logical, even in real life terms.

You know the trade market has not matured yet, its not efficent. When people start to bid competitively for these goods MANY of these problems will go away.
Trade is not supposed to be as profitable as it is imo, and its not going to stay this way for long. People will start to catch on and bid those profits tighter and we will see the goods reach more hands as this happens. If you want to see goods reach more hands then bid a winning price to trade them. Buy a bit above best market price and sell a bit below, you'll get your cut of the pie. Eventually the profits on the goods will come into line with the other options for making ISK in the game becuse everyone has a instinctive understanding of dimishing returns for their efforts when compared to other things they could be doing. Profits will be squeezed down until it balances out. Better for everyone to be encouraging competition if you want the trade system to function without imbalencing the game.

It seems a lot of people are against the idea of pirates in empire space*.
But nobody complains about NPC pirates... maybe they're not hard enough to offer a worthwhile threat in empire space..
So here's an alternative: NPC cruisers. Two or three of them at random gates. You'll see how forgiving they are, and you'll be begging to let real pirates back in.
The differences between NPC cruisers and humans is very small when the NPC's warp jam you, web you, and slowly pick you to pieces.

Pirate in empire space should be allowed... But in a lower way that it was at the beginning...
They should be able to stay quite happy in up to 0.2 areas...Then PROGRESSIVELY they should have more and more problems moving to highers areas.
Maybe a week ago there was a topic about Concord and their presence through empire space...
I pointed out (if I remember well) :
*0.1 - 0.3 : a bunch of frig, maybe some cruisers of Concord travelling to each object of the system (no camping) with long response to attack (maybe more forces, but much time to run out of the area)
*0.4 - 0.7 : cruisers essentially, and at max 1 battleship, medium response
*0.8 - 1.0 : battleships with hight response
This would make the universe more alive, make travelling more interesting and make pirates more happy...Fixing concord correctly would fix loads of things... (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Keep Pirates Out Of Empire Space
Sure there is. Pirates can't intercept everyone. It's up to the person as a skilled trader to make sure they're not one of those intercepted.
Otherwise, they're nothing more than a furcovered market leech with 0 skill. Perhaps that's the objection everyone has against piracy in empire space:
They're furcovered market leeches that know they can't get past even the simplest blockade.
Being a trader is supposed to have some risks after all. Moving the supply to 0.0 space isn't a solution as the number of jumps makes it HIGHLY discouraging even for huge sums of profit.
Plus, supply outside Empire space the risk soar significantly. You're not talking about 2-3 solar systems along the trade route you have to worry about. You're talking dozens of solar systems. If all robotic parts were moved to Curse I guarantee the only people that would run them would be pirate alts.
Empire space has the ability to control the amount of risk because, with a working security system, the risk would be minimized.
So shed the fur, leech. If you want the trade routes, you should have risk for them. Right now the only risk a trader has is he might spend some of the isk he puts up for his buy order before it gets filled and get fined...Oops, they deactivated market fines if I'm not mistaken.

What WOULD be nice would be a dynamic trade system, where demand would shift (since honestly they don't need 100k robitics EVERY DAY) but the supply wouldn't (since the factories wouldn't move). As an added bonus this is realistic
and i got no problems with pirates in Empire space. At least give those traders some thrills, god it must be worse then being a miner!

What majority? Most people agree that the sentry guns in 0.0-0.4 space are too much and are ruining the game and taking out any risk. Trading should not be completly risk free, considering it's the best profit making profession out there. I don't like griefers as much as the next guy but it's stupid to simply make the game a farce, especially when a lot of pirates weren't griefers/PKers.
These outlanding trade routes have only become a problem ever since all the risk has been taken out and pretty much anybody with an indy can do solo with a small investment. Before that it was very risky to run around with 30million+ worth of trade goods and most people did not. Now the whines are about how some people are buying it all too quickly.

Moving high profit trade runs to out side of Empire space will encourage traders to take bigger risk for much bigger rewards. Only problem I have with this is the potentiality of it going all to hell.
Those outer region alliances already have a monopoly on Bistot, which is the best way to make money if mined effeciently. Now the outer region alliances will monopolize the trade runs that are in their systems. These alliances can freely go to Empire space and freely trade their cargo in their controlled systems. Every one else will be stopped by the Alliance and bared from engaging in trade in the outer regions... not nice
EVE forces you to either player corp buddy or nasty pirate, freelancers can be damned to hell.

This subject angers me more then anything else in this game besides travel times.
FIX THE MARKET SUPPLY ALREADY AND STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST PPL WHO CAN ONLY LOG ON SEVERAL HOURS AFTER SERVER REBOOT!

And put some 0.0 systems in those trade routes also.

I believe what is happening is that when the server starts up, another thread is running in the background fulfilling peoples buy orders.
If you look immediately after the downtime, you'll see a lot of supply. If you wait 30 seconds, all the supply is gone (as the background thread takes care of all the orders).
It's not just with robotics, it's with any good that has a lot of buy/sell orders. I've seen it with Isogen.
There's no way that someone could have jumped to all the stations and bought robotics that quickly, especially if you see yourself as the only person in local and the number of pilots in space or in station reports just 1 (you).

Only the supply needs to be in the 0.0 security regions. The high-priced demand needs to be in the high level security Empire space.
The goods produced for cheap in outlaw regions can be labeled contraband or something, Empire customs forces would patrol the transit systems and destroy ships carrying contraband, or force them to pay duty, or whatever. Players could join the customs service and scan the cargo of ships arriving in empire space. If cargo is determined as contraband the customs officer is free to take hostile action (some in-game mechanic would allow the 'customs agent' player to do this without a security hit).
The contraband would need to be fenced and legalized somehow once it enters empire space before it could be sold on the open market.
There is a number of ways this type of thing could be done.

Quote: Also, fix the market so it doesn't reset like a 20year old BBS Door game every day. Are you guys programmers or exploiters ?
No kidding. I think TradeWars has an external program that has to be run daily. Come to think of it, I think TradeWars has more players than EVE and PvP combat! Wow... where's my telnet client?

lol
I posted this quickly in another thread the other day, but I don't think there is any real need to take the 'easy' trade routes out of empire space.
When the narcotics are introduced, they will rule nearly all money-making enterprises, as they do in the real world (almost).
The best thing is, nowhere is safe if you got a cargohold full of blue pills. Concord will rip you to shreds, no questions asked. Pirates will steal it from you. It will hopefully be the ultimate in high-risk high-profit trading. And those that are scared of 'danger' can stick to robotics/frozen seeds.
And Whitedwarf, that thing about the majority rule... In light of recent events/changes, that would simply not seem to be the case anymore, eh? .
