Hey all, As some of you know, I have been conducting a research on CCP and EVE-Online as part of my Master Thesis. I have been interviewing players on their opinions on CCP and EVE-Online (could not interview all I wanted as external issues affected this, I just had a son ). Now I am entering my last phase of the research, an online survey, to get a more general idea (and validity) on the overall opinion of the users.
It would mean a lot to me if you could participate (and let all your friends in-game know about it and get them to participate as well). It only takes about five minutes and the more people I get, the better my results will be.
Here is the link to the survey and if you are having any troubles with opening it, then here is a secondary link. Sadly my programming skills are at an all time low, so I could not set up a survey in game and, therefore, the survey does not work in game. The survey will be running until Monday, August 29th.
It should only take about five minutes and would help me out a lot. So, I just want to thank you guys for participating in advance (and hope you will participate )
I am expecting some replies to this post, so if you could participate before reading any of the replies would also mean a lot to me (to avoid any biases it might create).
Disclaimer: I am not an employee of CCP and I take full responsibility to my own opinions. I am conducting this research with CCPÆs approval and help, and they will of course see my results.
Best Regards, Drakar Dukay

It would be interesting of course if the community could also see the results and not only CCP. Do you have something against that or will you show us all how much we love/hate CCP? |

I am working on this with CCP, so I have to get their approval on what to publish. I am assuming that there will be some findings published, but at the moment I am just working full time on finishing it up , and had not thought of much after that.
Hope I can share as much of the findings with the community as I can, as it has been VERY helpful in my research. Best Regards, Drakar Dukay

Yeah, its for any comments that you might have, and the program I was using did not allow me have an end text saying thank you for your participation, so I used the end "comment" page for it.
Thank you for participating. Best Regards, Drakar Dukay

I hope you do take into consideration that your sample from the EVE player base will not be representative because a large part of the players don't read forums.

Yeah, I had taken that under consideration, but this is the best way to get the participation up, without spamming in Yulai etc., and be annoying in general. Thats why I hope people will let their friends in game know (pretty pwease).
But yeah, I had considered it and thanks for pointing it out (and participating)

F4ze makes a good point, as I pointed out in the survey there's a bit of a problem with the forums being skewed toward one particular demographic as it is, and it will most likely affect your data as well.
Anyway I look forward to the results, I've made my opinions rather clear during my time here but I'd love to see what the general opinion regarding a couple of the survey areas turns out to be.

Thanks again for the pointer, and if you guys are feeling generous, you could post the link in your alliance and corp chat (would be especially great if you are in any of the newbie corps) - but as I said, I do not want to be annoying and bug/spam people in local (and we have enough cans in our space), since its just plain annoying and I do not want to annoy people while they are relaxing and enjoying the game (much better to bug people at work ).

It's International Management and Marketing, I will give further details to the paper itself later, I do not want to create any biases on the survey (as some people read down before participating), but it is about having an organizational design aimed at fulfilling the needs of the customers.
About why there is not more about EVE itself is basically because I have been conducting interviews with the players and did an exploratory research through trial of the product (who sais school isnt fun...). During this stage, alot of different factors regarding EVE itself came up and I had to decide on what was most important (or the survey would have been 40+ questions and take 20-30 minutes to answer and I know from experience that if a survey takes to long, I quit it).
I will give more information later on, sometime after the survey - do not want to reveal to much (due to bias) - I might even have revealed to much, so I hope that people are participating before they read....

Done. (I am in a good mood because for some reason I can access the forums from work today for the first time ever .)
As I've said on the survey, I reckon your questionnaire is missing a major reason why people play EVE - many people don't like the fantasy genre. I certainly have no intention of spending precious free time hitting rats with clubs in holes in the ground. A lot of people out there are looking for "Elite the MMORPG" (do a websearch for Elite if you've never heard of it - pesky kids...) and EVE is pretty much the only option on offer (and a damn fine one too).
Good luck with this.

Completed the survey. I am curious however, as to how you're going to discribe your respondent group. As you're approaching forum dwellers; I am sure these are not representative for the entire player base. How are you going to correct your results for that? Best of luck with your thesis.

I think the forums will offer a fine cross section of the mindsets within Eve population. I don't think they are so biased as to adversely effect your findings via the randomness(or lack there of) of your sample population.

I don't think they are so biased as to adversely effect your findings via the randomness(or lack there of) of your sample population. No it won't be representative of the enitre player base, but it will be indicative of the resounding thoughts throughout the community, which is probably all you really need.
Hey all and thanks for the participation.
I think Quanteeri put it nicely about the bias of forum users versus non forum users, and also the great participation I am getting from you guys will give me some good average of the total population (by the way I was thinking more in lines of getting a good participation to overcome the bias of forum dwellers versus non-forum dwellers, but that was put nicely).
Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it. Best regards, Drakar Dukay

That seems a far more viable approach than 'gut feelings' about the population. The examples of bad statistics can be found on a daily basis, just read newspapers. When I mark my students' work I always make them explain how they support their conclusions, and how reliable they think their findings are.

I'd post this on the better-known Eve fan sites, like Eve-i, evegeek, etc. There are a lot of people who read those boards but not the official ones.
And SJ already posted it to our corp boards, so I can't help you there.
PS - and I thought my Master's thesis on South Park was a great way to have fun and do research at the same time.

Yeah, they taught me the same . But as I said before it got cut out for some strange reason during testing and proof reading. If I were to change it, the program I am using would create a new survey with a different link. The survey has been posted on a few different places and I have to have that continent out .
It is not a major factor, more out of interest. There is usually something that gets mixed up, and I am happy it was this question in stead of some other one (although I like all you aussies ).
Thanks again to all that are participating and bumping this up for me (and again thanks to everyone that has posted it in other places)
Best Regards, Drakar Dukay

Done and I'll post the link to my friends in game.
One issue though, both the last two age groups include 32. As a result I put myself in the younger of the two catagories.
