this sounds like a crazy idea from the thread title, but trust me, it ent as bad as it sounds
here is my idea:
use 2 ships for the lvl4 mission the first, a harpy, is the tank and frigate killer. it fits 4 hardeners (or 3 hard, 1 AB) in midslots and an armor rep and plate in lowslots highs are 125mm railgun2s to kill frigs with
the second ship (a tier 2 BS) is the shield booster, BS, cruiser and senty ganker it fits a full gank setup, except one of the highslots, which contains a large shield transporter. the rest of the slots should be set up to allow the transporter to be run continuosly (i was planning on using a raven, cos it can fit a webby, painter and cap recharger2s in the mids if not worrying about a tank - 5 BCUs in lowslots)
simply, the harpy aggroes the NPCs, and orbits the BS. meanwhile, the BS kills stuff, and turns on the shield transporter. if frigs (and especially inties) show up, the harpy fries them with its small guns (antimatter or thorium for less cap use)
the larger ships should not be able to seriously damage the harpy with its UBER resistances and small sig radius. meanwhile, its shields are being constantly boosted with BS lvls of shield
the armor repper and plate is there incase the harpy takes a really big hit, and though it will be at full shields again 5secs later, it is nice to have a bit of insurance behind your shield
this is particularly intended for guristas missions (use other AFs for other factions, and then remote armor reppers if needed) after the overhaul, NPC heavies, torps and cruises will do almost no damage to the harpy - and most guns will miss it

Edited by: Pudoris on 19/08/2005 15:02:25 Both, just depends on the situation :)
Only thing you need to be afraid of is the frigs, if you are webbed or double webbed even then every other class of ships can become a problem and you might die very fast. I often use a similar tactic with my friend, though I am on a sacrilege. But you seem to have been trying to fit for that instance (webbed) with the plate :)
Another positive side note would be when collecting loot :) goes much faster with a frig in there.
Just remember to align the bs as fast as possible for they might even though very rarely change targets.
And changins ships to have their natural resistances high vs the npc¦s damage is ofc something we must all learn if we can fly more then one race of AF or HAC :)
Hope this goes well for you.

I predict one dead Harpy on any of the harder missions (where a tank buddy might be useful). Deadspace sentry guns will *****your Harpy (Vengeance, Silence the Informant, AE, GE, etc). Drones will kick your butt. Get up close to the Supreme Drones and you'll get worked by their escorts (drones have no trouble hitting frigs). Stay at range and Supreme Drones will nail you. I imagine you'll be dead long before your escort arrives in the Infested Ruins 2nd stage. And the Harpy is dead slow so you won't be able to kill the masses of webbers before they get to you.
Much better (and cheaper choice) is to use a Maller. Fit it with MAR II, 4 hardeners, 1600mm tungsten plate, and frig guns. 5700 armor HP with resistances of 81.298 Kinetic, 83.791 Thermal, and 68 EM for Gurista missions with Cruiser Lvl4. It has the resistances, repair capacity, and hitpoint reserve to stay alive where the Harpy does not. Plus if something goes wrong, you'll only lose a few mil while your escort buddy warps out and saves his battleship.

Been doing it like this since the missile changes were implemented. I don't even use any extra hardners for gurista missions, just a gisti SB.
You only have to be careful with webifiers, kyoukans, eliminators and spider drones.
Me and a corpmate in a cerberus can do lvl 4 GE no problem, even the bonus stage with me being primary tanker.

Edited by: Redwolf on 19/08/2005 21:39:57 Not as mad as it sounds, have seen a harpy used to tank 10 Guristas BS (lowish level) so that the rest of gang could kill em.
*edit* It even managed to kill one of them.

All you need for a Harpy that can kill 500K Scorps and tank streams of Torps, Turrets, etc...
Originally by: Plasmatique just a gisti SB.
One of those + Harpy = Impressive ability.

i usually use a gistii SB - but i thought getting boosted by a BS would get a MUCH high rate of regeneration, and would allow another hardener to be fitted

Yeh, true.
Like the idea man. Anything using Harpies to their extreme is cool.

That was me on one of the COSMOS missions. It was possible because they were only BS and they were using missiles. If there were Frigs and Cruisers or different type of BS it would of been tricky. I can kill the Scorps with the Harpy but not the Ravens. But still was great fun and funny to watch all those BS shooting me with little or no effect. Make sure you keeping moving though otherwise you're toast.

This idea is old. I am doing lvl4 in Enyo for ages, although you need BS to finish some tough rats. But after lvl4 nerf you probably need it every 3rd-4th mission. Basically you wrap in, kill all frigs, cruisers, sentries and some BS's. Then change ship to BS and come back to finish tough rats, mostly 1 mil up BS's

The type of npc has a big effect on how sucessful this will be. A Harpy is great against gurista and serpentus that deal just the types of damage the Harpy has resistance bonuses too. I would expect for most lvl 4 gurista missions the only hard parts will be sentry guns that deal some em damage and breaking the tanks of the harder BS. However for against npcs that deal more EM /EXP damage things could get much harder.

sry for the late response, but i have just done a few guristas missions - was REALLY easy - didn't even have to use the support ship for any missions without lots of mercenary wingmen or sentry guns - my gistii booster allows me to infinitely tank 1BS, 10 cruisers and 4 frigs (thats the biggest single spawn i've fought in it)

is a gisti sb better than a t2 med for a harpy setup?
even the clock got nerfed |

Yes - look @ the cap usage. It's an insane SB. Plus fitting is easier than a medium II booster.
