After reading carefully most of the "hey i got new ship idea" threads, reviewing the item database carefully and playing eve for a few months (which doesnt say much i agree) there seems to be an opportunity to insert two new ships types, please read them first and flame me later:
1- Tech 2 battleship with bonus to leadership-type skill trees. Yeah i know, everyone has argued about t2 battleships....but let me explain, most t2 ships boost the skills/properties directly related with the ships itself. Battleships are (besides dreads) the largest ships for PvP and more often than not provide tanking. So why not make a flagship type t2 battleship...one that improves the leadership skill tree...and encourages teamplay....besides...on most real-life navy fleets....the biggest ship is often the commading one for the task force. We already got Interceptors, Covert Ops, Assault and Heavy Assault...almost all the roles...except Command.
2- The other ships that i think could be introduced to the game is a faction-type mining barge. Not that is actually needed, is just seems odd that no empire wanted to develop its own version of the mining barge originally created by ORE. Could be a good tech1 (with tech2 variant) ship that gives a solution to most complains regarding current available barges (it doesnt have enough armor, they suk, no enough high slots, blah blah /insert whine, etc).
As far as i see in the game, most ship roles have been covered, we got from the ultra heavy station destroyer, to the ultra nimble interceptor. We only need a few things that each faction can relate to.

ps: please flame on, but do it in a civilized way

Shock horror im going to say this is a good idea! We need Flagships! Plus factional ships is a good point!
Dreadnoughts i would say are flagships in there own right but perhaps a mini version would be flagship class for corps and small alliances. These would be allowed into empire unlike dreads.

Oh the good old days of Tradewars. I Loved that text based game, and played it daily until I found eve-online. I still miss those days of the fastest typer or macro wins, and setting up my rtr port stealing, and of course the mighty hit my fighter and blast you with photon torp that takes all your turns away so I can warp a planet on top of you and zap you with my planitary cannon!

Believe it or not, the T2 battleships ARE coming, and they're slated for being logistics/leadership oriented.
I personally think the name "flagship" or "fleet command ship" would be a good way to denote the role of these ships, provided that CCP can actually make them useful for the role they're intended to fill.
It seems to me that the general consensus is that organised fleets do not work, or that nobody wilil ever use them. I think this is a shame because, with the controls that ganging gives the gang-leader, and all the recent logistics stuff, it would be pretty good fun. (Wow, yes, it would be fun, there's a concept foreign to most eve PvPers!)
I think what's probably missing, is some kind of formation ability. If we were given real control over the formation of our group, we could probably arrange our fleet so that we'd have a tactical group advantage when we warp in. (so basically the fleet would operate like one big "fuzzy ship" or drone swarm).

I think they need to have ubertanks.. otherwise they will be the number 1 targets... which give thema lifespan of prciesly 0.0004562 seconds.

there is already comming Command ships.. the T1 version is called Battlecrusier altho usualy biggest sized ships are the comand ship in navies they are also most likly to be attacked.. altho making it a less atractive target by having it being a less powerfull ship might actualy make it have a bigger survival rating.. not to mension cheaper to replace and so on.
a BS size command ship will become the primery target cause it might not only have powerfull guns but also improving the rest of the fleet making it's destruction reduce the entire fleet's combat effectiveness.

Umm... raven?
I would expect T2 battleships to be basically combat-oriented versions of their T1 counterparts, simply the next thing to get for any highbie who for some reason doesn't like to fly around with the slow, clumsy and limited dreadnaughts. As such they would be a counter to HACs which are giving BS pilots a hard time currently. -- Roleplaying in Eve |

we donŠt need more slots... maybe 5-7k armor and shield

i likethe idea, even if they come pot with T2 BS i think we need flagships.
Each faction could have a flag ship that enhances leadership suited to that faction.
Also a corporate flagship, and aliance flagships.
Only a CEO in a alliance leader copr can board and fly a flag ship.
A ceo of a corp can board and fly a corporate flag ship.
- Now the kicker, a gang can have a single allaince flage ship in it. - A gang may only have a single corp flagship in it. - A gang may only have a single corp flagship per corporation. - The presence of a aliance flagship raises the limit on corporate flagships to be equal to the number of corps in the allainace.
this suits the fleet type engagment, where the leader takes the lead. and in the bigger aliance battle the aliance leader raises the leader ship by one level and the old corp flagships become his subordinates.
The bonus for each ship should be incredible given there limited number in a battle. say a corp flagship gives per level of skill 1% speed boost, 2% target ehnacment, and 2% warp speed enhancment.
The aliance flagship gives per level of skill 5% defender missle speed, and tracking, %5 greter percision of gang warps, 10km warp disruption doubles with each level of skill 10,20,40,80,160 KM (non gang only)
In short the corp flag ship is local combat enhancment, and meshed offensive capability and thealiance flagship is greater defense and manevering.

I do like this idea, but maybe a twist. The flagship is designed to give a huge boost to all tactical elements of the battle, thus making it a target. So make it uber defensive. I don't like the idea of having it as an offensive powerhouse, as the last thing those of us trying to run ore out of 0.0 need is a flagship, that it extra difficult to destroy, ganking us as we try to warp. maybe make the boost on everybody elses combat, but the locking time on that ship would be long enough that even a hauler could get away.
If the flagship were used in conjunction with the other gate campers, fine, that is it's purpose. But solo campers would have to think twice before they used it for that purpose.
Just my 2 cents.

How about mobile outposts? For rearming and such. Like a ammo or fuel dump?

Hmm a mothership eh ? What happens when the guy flying that ship crashes out of the game, while I just docked to it ?
Your answer can be : The mothership will stay there. Okay, lets assume that. Were under attack, ships are docking and launching again from the mothership. MS pilot crashes, ship stays in space. Now what ? We'll have to keep defending it until that pilot logs back on. How long will that take ? 48 hours ? OUCH !!

the way i see eve gang fights is hit hard finish fast. a mother ship would change the battle filed strategy. as it can hold many possibilities for use and better fights. my idea for the mother ship is it should have not much fire power but high defences and a maybe a decoy deployment system for anti targeting and missiles. so having limited hard slots. to solve the what if pilot drops out of game the ship stays but unmanned and could be controlled from out side of the ship. it would have a large cargo hold for holding ships and equipment. it should be slow in manoeuvring but quick to warp. i would like a sort of quick docking for good reason. for pods so quick getting back to the action. maybe a large shield for ships docking protection etc. these are just a thought on the idea for a mother ship and its part in a large scale fight.

Maybe slightly off topic:
Battlecruisers are the command ships now. Well, at least the devs tried to give them that role, since battlecruisers seemed to have little use for things other than fighting npc's.
So what i'd like to know: 1. Are BC becoming populair for fleet battles, like they should? 2. What could/should be improved to make them perform their role of 'Command Ship' better?

You're thinking of Nelson at Trafalger, and that wasn't the death knell of the ship of the line, Nelson used them with supream efficency. The death of the ship of the line was a little skirmish at Hampton Roads wherein the CSS Virginia (Formerly the USS Merrimac) proceeded to wipe out the American ships Congress and Cumberland that engaged it, before the USS Monitor arrived the next day.
I like the name ship of the line, since it follows the logical train of names: Battleship - Dreadnought - Ship of the Line (though I think that CCP got them backwards, like with destroyers and frigates) though I have the distinct feeling that they'll be un imaginitve and call them something like ultra heavy assualt ships.
Though, if you want an apropo moniker for them, the generic term for early ironclad ships was a 'Monitor'. Non Nobis, Domine, Non Nobis, Sed Nomine Tuo Da Na Glorium |

Aye i heard somewhere on the grapevine there would either be support-class BS or T2 BC that would act as command vessels carrying multiple gang modules, not sure where but would love to see them in the game. ---- Join Us
