Anybodies guess what will come after north vs south I guess.
That conflict started before but was put on print the day molle redefined bandwaggoning in EVE by declaring the BOB/FIX/SE/ASCN/5ive "mutual understanding" thingy. Good job on them though it feels like they make the rest of EVE think and play harder to try and match them.

As with afew southern alliances recently, they have opened their space to individuals/corps/alliances that are willing to pay for the privilage of 0.0 and reap the rewards of the vast untaped resource that lays within.
I beleive this will be the driving force for alliances in the future, to claim regions after destroying the current ocupying forces and then sell access to this space off. Its a over obvious and easy way to make the isk to take the edge off any loses that encure as well as a good way to ensure the space is monitored for trespassers. A completly player based Empire will start (see [5] space, currently if this passport system works, could become a real player driven empire).
My ownly consern is, that eve will get abit old soon enough amd when this happens the drive required to start from stratch in 0.0 and claim space may start to dwindle making "solid" targets (claimed space alliances) a thing of the past, destruction is part of growth after all, but is such a thing as to much to fast.
The north will fall, one way or another. The propaganda mills will start soon, and troops will become demotivated. Wars arnt about ships. its about how information spreads and who controls it. Maybe PA will stay dead this time

Btw. - I think you'll see some of the alliances north start shaking their pants and try to NAP the south ....
Xelas tried that and NAP'ed Bob behind PA's back and all the north united against them. I wasn't around for the GNW but after talking to some PA guys I don't think anyone who was around then wants Bob back and doesn't want a repeat of the GNW.

Everyoen seems ot assume bob/5 will conquer everything but what if they do start a full invasion of the north and fail and the north turns around and conquers everything? wouldnt that be an interesting turn of events?

Anyways the whole North vs South thing is a bit unequal if u look at the numbers of alliances and ppl in the north and then compare it to the south.
Sometimes it feels a bit like the north is the roman empire (many little "factions" but united when outside forces threaten it) trying to stop the barbarian hordes.
@ Milkminer: a statement like "the north will fall" is atm a sign for the lost sense of reality.

Let's keep any and all antagonism outside of here for now ok ? It's not like there's no basic respect between some of the north and some of the south. No need really to call anyone barbarians is there ?
Anyway, yes, north versus south is the main frontline atm.
And yes, thats a bit boring sometimes seeing the long distances involved.
But then again, give it some times to start people. The current stuff thats going down is like a small warming up really.

If empires start sending people out into 0.0 to attack the alliances. Things would get VERY interesting. Especially if you saw something like the minmatar republic attempting to annex curse.
That would be interesting indeed. There's an area to the near southeast owned by COE, and one to the near-west owned by 3FA. Both of those would make tempting initial targets for that kind of offensive.

Nah, empire dwllers v 0.0 alliances would end pretty damn fast. The only reason why wars in 0.0 last for longer time is because people can make the isk to replace losses easily.
When one of both sides is only getting his isk in empire, he's not going to last nearly half as long. He'll just go bankrupt very quickly. On top of that, empire corps have no organisation, no teamwork, aren't on the same page, have relatively weak industry and logistics, and no experience.
They'd lose, horribly. Even with ten times the numbers.

the next great conflict will occur when the npc empires collapse, the whole game turning into 0.0 space.
The day when all the 0.0 pvpers sweep in and annihilate all the empire dwellers. there will be a 1000 ships destroyed in last hour in Nonni

Ohno BF 2 already won that one 
i guess its south vs north at some point , should be fun i guess since there are way more pvp'ers up north then back in teh days .

A great conflict would be to have one the NPC factions Blob war empire, or parts of 0.0. 50-75 ship NPC fleets would be nice, with some dropping nice loot. But i'm just dreaming on that. First of all, seems like every week or 2 someone else is claiming Gem and Vale. Then FIX and BOB and BYDI do thier blob runs through the area, then someone else is claiming the area. So IMO these 2 areas are no way settled or calm yet. I expect to see this area battled over or a long time. Second of all, with Foyle comming back, rumor has it she's comming back with a vengance, and no one is going to be happy. So we shall see how that plays out. Third, last, and not least, I think the calmness is due to certain corps, alliances getting their Dreds sorted. As much as they cost, I'm sure there is alot of carebearism going right now to build them. As soon as 0.0 becomes active with them, we should see some big shakeups.

You're right there. Ascn is probably 30% pure pvper's, the rest just spend some spare time now and then making money to supply the PVP'ers with guns, ammo, and ships, and BP's, and insurance, and targets, and transport, and clubs and... and... and...

East vs. West
Xelas are BoB pawns. ASCN had breathing room after the war with FA ended, and put up their outpost. Someone down south will get edgy and ****ed at them being the biggest alliance. FIX secretly hates BoB and will never go along with them, it's just a NAP of convenience. Hi, Atuk & BoB are one alliance, just not an IGA. They won't war each other :P The "GIMPIRONS" will all join up together soon, already pretty much have. FA will move into Delve, BoB will move into Fount, then they'll fight to switch back again. F-E and FIX are currently going at it. PA... well yeah whatever. SE is sandwiched and feeling the burn and really aren't recovered from the switch from being SA yet. Red's killing [5]. Pretty much leaves Curry and IAC that are going to go on a massive recruiting spree, push east, and miraculously find a door to Jove space.
Evol wants North/South to happen, and they're trying (badly) to play politics & NAPs to make it happen. Unless the rest of EVE wants to be known as their pawns, it won't happen :P

Some good thoughts on the post above.
I also see it this way, Northwest vs BoB and Southeast Vs 5.
I think that the Alliance system in game is maturing to a level in which most Alliances are more concerned about "Imperialist" Alliances (those that go around Eve space enslaving and destroying Space holding alliances) than some Alliance on the other side of the Galaxy. Especially when space-holding Alliances have the same interests which is colonizing and securing their share of 0.0 space.
