Ever since I reactivated my age-old account a few weeks ago I had been experiencing some harsh crashes. At first the sound would start stuttering and glitching, and a few seconds later I had a freshly rebooted computer. After disabling sound I had a little more stability, but not much stability at all. Now I had a silent Eve that regularly (in 10-30 minutes after logging in) just plain old froze the computer instantly. Everything just stopped, and nothing but a manual reboot helped. After many many attempts to fix this, like updating all drivers for everything, disabling and enabling all kinds of stuff in BIOS, and sodomizing a goat while chanting Finland's national anthem, I read somewhere that subtly increasing the CPU's voltage might help. And so I tried that. And it did.
I have been running the client for a couple of hours now, and no crash. This is by far the longest I have had it running, so I am confident. For those afraid to mess with the CPU voltage, all it really does (in small doses) is heat the CPU some more. To counter that I underclocked the CPU a little, but a small increase in voltage (the smallest increase the BIOS lets you make) really shouldn't increase the temperature that much.
So, if you are holding the goat and googling "Finland national anthem", try this first. It might just save its life, and you a lot of time.

Hmm.
OK I'll add one notch of CPU voltage and see if that helps. I'm highly skeptical though. My system is very, very stable except with EVE.
I'll be keeping the goat nearby, let me put it that way. Burning candles and skinning cats didn't work.

Not that I'm positive that this will fix your problem, but my computer never ever froze before I got Eve. I guess this patch is just poorly written in some parts, or something.

This sounds like a nifty solution...can you please go into more detail about how to do it?

Being a pc engineer this is one not for the faint hearted. And maybe its not needed at all, have you tryed to shut down processes so your cpu can handle more ??? or what about running eve in windows mode ??? I currently run a AMD 64-bit 3400+ , corsair Twin-X 2x 512mb , 200GB sata hdd , ATI 9600 XT (256mb) and eve in full screen randomly crashes or if i switch screen more than once, since i started to run eve in windows mode i have never had a problem.
Give it a go you never know.

If you overvolt your CPU ensure that your cooling solution can handled the increased thermal output that this will cause.
One slight (It's called VCore) change wont set your PC on fire, but if your heatsink and fan combo can't cool a toasty hot CPU at the present, then increasing your VCore is a little more risky. VCore is changed in the BIOS; as are many other voltage options such as chipset and RAM.
Underclocking is a novel solution, drop the CPU multiplier on any downward unlocked chip and increase the front side bus (FSB) for greater performance. (Don't forget to lock the PCI, PCI-E/AGP buses, and run the memory with a divider if necessary)
If this is all technobabble - look up some of the forums on the subject using google; everything explained in there

Adding a notch of VCore didn't help in my case, but turning AGP down to AGPx4 did considerably reduce the problem. I have no idea why that would be the case but its definately true.

YAY IT did work!!!! cpu runs at 41-43c but fan noice is not as annoying as crashing! You are good man Thank you for the hint
P.S. running for 2 hours now with no problem and high graphic settings.
If it crashes Opinion might change! hehehe j/k

My AMD system runs at 50-55c. Should I be concerned?

Well... generaly... CPU is fine as long as you dont go over 70c anything over it ..might start a fire
If you think that you getting falce readings download "Motherboard Monitor 5" from http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads7.html or /and you can get yourself "Everest Home edition" http://www.lavalys.com/

lol beast next to me sits STEADY under load at 49*C thats with NO case fans but the biggest chunkiest QUIET fan i could find.. its actually quiet (relatively)
Now if i could only get a decent PSU.. the fan is rattling like a stampede of elephants at the moment :( time to buy a new PSU. :(
at 49*C thats rock steady proformance CPU wise, no crashes. the old P4 sat nice on 50*C without strain. ive seen a AMD running 65*C overheat at 70*C
dont worry till it hits 55*C id say :)

with one notch of vcore increase, mine was hitting 57c. I guess i'll try the AGP "detune" and see what that does.

Lat ditch appeal for help -
Ever since updating my nVidia 5200 driver a couple of weeks ago, as recommended by CCP, I've been experiencing lockup after lockup. The screen blurs as the video fails to refresh, then everything locks. (I have to hold the on-off button to power down.) At first this would take perhaps several minutes to hours after loading Eve, but now it happens upon entry into the hangar so that I can't even change skill training. (And rolling back to the previous driver doesn't help, either.)
There is no problem with other programs or software. I can still run an alt character with far fewer assets and skill points for awhile, but eventually will experience lockup.
The BLUE SCREEN points to nv4_disp as the problem, with various messages, the most common being infinite loop in the driver. I've done everything I know to do, including reinstalling Eve multiple times. At first that seemed to solve it but after 20 minutes or so was back to the same. The drivers were uninstalled and reinstalled, and I even bought a Registry Cleaner, all to no avail.
I have several questions and petitions (and bug reports going back over two months)in to Eve Support, as now I am convinced there is a corrupt file or conflict originating in Eve's programming, but I'm not hearing anything. I love this game or would not be going to such lengths to continue playing, but the account will be suspended soon if I can't solve the problem.
Thanks to anyone who can offer a suggestion. I can still access Eve Online...
