Higurashi might be one of the most underrated anime, especialy Kai. They had a miniscule budget for the first few episodes and it just captivated my interest in the opening scene.
Code Geass started like this, very small and niche, on on the 11pm slot on a Thursday in Japan. Bu the end of its run it was Saturday 9pm and had to change itself to fit that timeslot. Always wondered what the original second season was supposed to be, they had to retcon in so much to turn it into the next Gundam.
