....and the locusts went upon the land of Heimatar, and they rested in all the fields of Onga and of her sisters; Lustrevik, Pator, Hulm and Rens, very grievous were they, and they covered the face of all the fields, so that not one could see the 'roids, and they hath mined the residue of the ore of the 'roid, till the 'roids were darkened and depleted and were of no more, and the locust hath mined every 'roid which hath groweth out of the field, through all the land of Heimatar....
Come on pilots, what is really being done about this blight that has been taking place here in all of our backyards? Something needs to be done about it now, or before long there won't be a single asteroid left in Empire.
You all know what I'm talking about. The countless new pilots that show up in your local system which don't seem like your normal everyday miner. They usually swarm in on high security status systems in groups which has the highest buy orders for minerals. Theses are the pilots with the names that just seem a wee to bit 'mechanical' for the average pilot and are always based in an NPC corporation. They are the pilots which all they seem to ever do is mine ore into jet cans, haul it, and sell it, yet they never buy anything from the market. They are the ones that never utter a word in local or private chats, and they are the ones that never seem to lock another pilots ship, nor fight an NPC.
In the past week alone I've personally seen their numbers grow on a daily basis at an alarming rate. With as many as 40 of these new 'pilots' in the last 2 weeks in my home system. Unfortunately the problem doesn't stop with these new miners, because the older ones keep going strong, months after being found and after they have been taken care of by 'normal' procedures. If nothing is done these new pilots and any future ones will destroy the economy.
The 'higher powers' that should be keeping this problem in check and the screening procedures they use to find these pilots are just not working as advertised. When push comes to shove, it seeks like it's the almighty ISK that is of more of a concern to the 'higher powers' then the health and well being of our universe and our economy. The current system is just not working, something has to give or we will all be up the creek without a paddle before we know it.
The Plague is here NOW! - Join the Fight
Lets all join hands and fight them while we still may have a chance. Let's hurt them where it hurts the most, in their 'wallets'. I know some of you don't see eye to eye with me because I'm a thief. But please, let's put our differences aside for this mission to save the fields.
I'm calling on all pirates, thieves, mercenaries, and any one else that wants to lend a hand to this growing problem. Let's put an end to this plight of the 'locust' for once and for all, before all the asteroid fields in Empire are stripped clean.
Saddle up your biggest haulers and set you auto-pilots for Rens in the Heimatar region of space. If you need any help locating these 'locusts' just let me know. Please try to refrain from effecting the operations of the regular miners of this region. During this time of 'war' I will be adding all regular local miners to my exclusion list so they will be safe from my normal ore looting habits.
Sincerely, Menod Penter

Edited by: Deja Thoris on 22/08/2005 00:57:48 /me and Deja Thoris waved her mighty hand over the roid fields and decreed that they should multiply everyday at downtime.
The roid fields obeyed Deja and multiplied so that they were plentiful and lo, the crisis was averted.
Deja saw this and was glad. It stopped people being ********s and hiding behind roleplay reasons to justify it.

Edited by: xChaosTheoryx on 22/08/2005 01:04:22 I agree completly, in my home system theres always close to 240 people And their all mining! And if you try to start a convo in local.....nothing happens for like 20 mins...just enough time for them to get enough courage to talk. While im still fairly new to the game, i dont see the comunication that other games have.
I think the only way to solve this problem is to make a "Save the Asteroids" corp. And bring in all the noobs and teach them the ways of the EVE. >^<>^<>^<>^<>^<>^<>^<>^<<

I have seen how one person is moving 17 ship so the ships can mine for the one person as they use there indy ship to pick up the ore from the Jetcans and drop it off at a base.
The person moves one ship at a time and then sets them up to some how mine on auto with no help from them.
I found you can even move the ships away from the belt and it seems to drop a Number jetcan again and trys to keep mining.
And every one of the char. is just letters and numbers and they have only been on for less then 6 days.
I do not like to see some one doing this and having a ISK factory just to sell it on the internet to some one even if it is putting ore on the market.
Thats why we like to pay real players the ISK and not some dumb isk Factory! It needs to stop for i do not like to pay real money for others to do this at all! ______________________________________________ Im just a Older person having fun in the best Game ever made in the world -=[ EVE-ONLINE ]=- ---------------------------------------------- |

We stumbled on six geddons all bunched together in .4 mining veld.... as if that wasn't enough two days ago five BS on auto pilot moving through low sec space. These were all random named 3-4wk old npc corp members in geddons / apocs armed with miner IIs and co-pro dmg mods . (managed to pick off two of them before they left system )
I'd say only one thing to explain this..... *bay isk ???!! (I can't for one second believe people run this quantity of accounts just for in game iskies)
I never report this kinda stuff as not sure how keen CCP are to act on it...

I have noticed the same thing in the last 2 months. an explosion of macrominers. To top it off they do not attempt to hide the fact, they even use groups of similar names. There is probably 300 macrominers out there.

Reason they are coming en-mass now is that CCP is greedy and needs account cash plus to break that "magical 15k" barrier. They are giving less and less **** about macrominers destroying player economy because they will get more cash from those macro miners.
Or why you think there is so many of 'em out there? Because few have successed and told others that "hey, they are not banning us, come and join us!" plus a new method that there is actually always one low-paid sweatshop person answering to GM querys, otherwise its totally macro controlled stuff.
Suck eh? Money talks over players .. welcome to the REAL world.

Personally, I am in need of some low end minerals, so let me detail an alt that way one of these days to assist in this great campaign.

Maybe they are just asian players, not interested in what American and European players think? Asian culture, especially japenese, tends to be very incompatible with western preferences.

Why not do somehting easy, yet legal about it?
Lets say that you have apersonyou suspect to be a macro miner in local, find him and give him a nice bump, via BumpaGeddon. Knock him away from the belt, and he shuts down.
Notice it doesn't make you a Ore Thief, nor does it cost you your ship via CONCORD. If the player Does shut down, report it to CCP. A real player will atleast respond and move back into position.
I know its a hard situation thou. When i get home, im going to be running a mining character in the background to build up some isk before the T2 BSs come out. It won't be Macro or anything, but it may take time to respond if im in Combat with my main.

There is a channel
"tookurstuff"
works better then a petition in my experience. macroers are gone within the day after you send the ore thieves after them. And thats one day that the thieves wont be spending stealing ore from people that actually played the game.

Edited by: Ryy Kishin on 22/08/2005 11:05:03 Menod, For once I have to fully agree with you, I see in the system im in 4 large barges 2 haulers all from the same corp and all the pictures even look the same mining 23/7, I stole over 300k of ore from them ( 3 trips)in my hoarder before they noticed that 3 cans had popped. Then 2 days later I seen them doing it again, I had a friend in a hauler while I had my Tempy with a 100mwd and 6 local overdrive injectors, and rammed the haulers at over 2500m/s into the unknown while my friend took the ore , worked out quite well. They finally logged and I havent seen them all weekend.

Noticed a quite large group of exactly 3 day old noobcorp alts from an amarr noobcorp all hanging out in the same station in algogille (gallente space).
about 10 chars, all three days old and made within 2 hours of eachother.
right.
10 more days to go before they start shwoing up in gallente space sporting apocs and miner II's i bet.

So one way to fix the situation is to get rid of Trial Accounts, no?
If each macro miner with a 3 day old alt had to pay $15 for the month, then it would hit them in the wallet.
I like the trial account option, but it is contributing to the degration of our economy.

Well, first off I'd like to thank everyone for their support on this 'war' against the 'locusts'. I have had a huge response so far to this post with much appreciated support from my allies and enemies alike. To my surprise many pilots have put aside their views regarding my 'normal' profession and most have lent a hand in the fight against this common enemy.
Please keep the intelligence data flowing in. When possible include the names of the pilots and the system name the 'swarm' was spotted in, belt names are also helpful. Please do this in an eve-mail to myself. I'll start posting the data to the forums as soon as I figure out if it is permitted. In the mean time a chat channel will be started so we can direct the needed personal to those systems. Chat Channel name is "Locust Locations".
A few comments about this 'war'. It is not a normal declared war, not one where you can fire at the 'locusts'. For the most part they all reside in NPC corps, so a normal war can not be fought. We are fighting them by hurting their 'wallets'. Some of the tactics that have been used so far are as follows.
- Asteroid Belt Strip Parties : Find a belt that the 'locust swarm' resides in and strip it clean, start off by chomping on the 'roids they are mining. Then start mining the 'roids next to the first one. This deprives them of the ore they thrive on, they will have to move to continue with their devastation.
- Common Ore Theft : Find their jet cans and clean them out, pop the jet cans to they hurt. It might help if you set a safe spot up first close to the belt they are in. This way you just warp to the safe spot, dump the ore from your ship and go back for more. Less docking and undocking is required. After they leave go to you safe spot and empty your jet can to a station.
- Pop The Ore : Transfer the ore from their jet cans to a jet can of your own. Then target and pop your jet can with 'dirty ore' in it. This tactic is helpful if you don't have a hauler available. Just make sure you target and pop the correct can, otherwise Concord will show up to take you ship.
* * IMPORTANT NOTE * * If you suspect these 'locusts' are using a macro to perform their tasks then it is very important to file a petition under the 'exploit category' first before using any of the above tactics against them. Make sure the petition includes the names of ALL pilots of the 'swarm' you suspect might be using a macro along with the system and belt name they are in. After the petition has been filed they are 'free game' to any of the above tactics.
Also please note this is not a 'war' against any corporation that does strip mining, or 'normal' pilots who are mining. This is also not a save the 'roid campaign. This 'war' is to help us all reclaim our fields from these pests to insure that our economy is not ruined by them.
Thank You for your Time and Help! Menod Penter

Some could be yes, especially the three day old omen miners and so on.
Yet it seems like there's quite alot of small time macroers around too now. Ops of like 3 domi's and a hauler which I suspect are only using drag&drop macros and are run afk or something but not witht he intent to ebay.
I don't steal ore unless I'm convinced its a macro mining operation, period. Anyone whose Ore I steal can ask it back from me and get it back immediately. But the silly amount of macro miners around Gallente and Caldari space now is absolutely shocking when compared to a year ago.
I'm also not goig out looking for them, I'm just doing my nromal trading and keeping an eye out in local for them. If i notice the obvious telltale macro chars around, I'll unload in the nearest station and scan down their belt before swooping in and stealing, destroying and bumping what I can (after sending the petition ofc :p)
