Hey everyone.
I've been using my Thorax for quite a while now, and I'd like a change of pace, but after sizing up all the other cruisers (and I can fly them all, all at level 3 or higher) I can't find any of them which could come close to the thorax in terms of its ability to PVP and, more specifically, Pirate.
Now, I'm willing to accept that the Thorax is the most effective pirating vessel, but if that were the case, what would come second?
I was considering the Rupture, it has the potential for good damage output, as well as a decent slot-layout, and enough room for 6 med drones or 12 lights. But once again, none of the other cruisers are able to tank and put out as much damage as the thorax. A plate rax with heavy drones seems to be the be-all and end-all simply because it takes your opponent SO LONG to chew through, there's a very high chance you've killed them before they can kill you. And thats assuming you have 0% capacitor, if you aren't being nossed, you can repair, and also fire your weapons.
Now, that being said, I would be happy flying a second-rate pirating cruiser, like the rupture, but I would have to accept that in a 1v1 fight there would be very little chance I could beat a platerax that has a clue what he's doing. For instance, I could fit a smartbomb, using that, and individually targetting the drones to kill them off, but after that, I still have a cruiser with around 4,000 armor chewing through me.
Sure, there are plenty of ways I can set up my ship 100% to kill a platerax, and its quite possible. But in general PVP that would gimp me quite severely.
The alternative? Fit small weaponry on my rupture, and a plate similar to the rax.
No.
I refuse to fit small guns on a cruiser, other than the platerax. Medium guns are made to be used, and so I plan on doing so. I was thinking of using the rupture for huge damage output with only a light tank. A pile of autocannons and heavy launchers with a very light tank, scrambler, mwd, webber. (Don't know if this would fit, all theory of course) This would provide me with a lot of firepower, and decent maneuverability.
I would love to fly an Omen for pirating, (I'm training for zealot atm ) but a nosferatu or two simply rips it apart, and all the cruisers suffer from that, except platerax of course and perhaps the Rupture, since it uses much less cap in combat. (or so I've heard, im not a big minmatar person:P)
A sidenote which just occured to me, is the ECM bursts, they disrupt target locks at very close range if I'm correct. I'm not logged in atm so I can't check their info, but if someone could explain to me how they work and if they would be effective when fitted to a cruiser with the hope of jamming a nearby enemy craft, I would appreciate it. Also, if they would be effective in jamming drones, or if drones can be jammed at all, and for how long they would remain jammed.
Can people please comment and share their experiences in PVP regarding the Thorax and other cruisers which are able to PVP effectively. Please note this is primarily against other cruisers and battlecruisers.
I know I probably don't have to say this, but this isn't a nerf thoraxes or whatever thread, I simply want to assess which ship(s) are most effective in PVP and most useful for Pirating.
Thanks - Lyticus
