The EVE Forum Moderator Team is now accepting applications for Moderators. The EVE Forum Moderator Team is known as Communications Relay Commission and is a part of the EVE Volunteer Program known as Interstellar Services Department. We monitor the EVE Message Boards to make sure the Forum Rules are followed, while interacting with the community. Having English as your first language is not a requirement!
Requirements:
- Good communication skills including good written skills.
- Active participation in the discussions on the EVE Message Boards.
- A minimum of 3 months playing EVE.
- No forum bans issued, a low amount of warnings may be accepted.
- Experience using IRC is prefered but not a requirement. We ask you
to include your experience with IRC somewhere in the application.
- 18 years of age is a minimum, older is a merit.
You also have to meet one of these requirements:
- Live in a US timezone
- Speak German
- Speak French
- Speak Russian
- Speak Chinese
- Speak Japanese
- Speak Korean
- Speak Spanish
- Speak Portuguese
Please note that you only have to meet one of these requirements, not all. You do not have to have to be an expert in English, but you will have to know enough to communicate with it. You do not have to have any of these languages as your first language, but you have to be able to read and understand it enough to moderate, using a dictionary as help is acceptable.
Also, unless you speak one of these languages or live in a US time zone (North and South America) your application is rejected by default.
A well written application is a big plus! We look at other things as well, but good application has a better chance.
You can apply by clicking the ôInterstellar Svcs Deptö button under ôEVE INSIDERö in the menu to your left. If you have already submitted an application please update it. We also request that you only check the ôEVE Forum Mod (CRC)ö choice under question 5 (What area are you interested in guiding for?). This will make it easier for us to see who is interested.
You can read more about the EVE Volunteer Program (ISD) and EVE Forum Moderator Team (CRC) in the FAQ and the Player Guide.
One update, our systems rely on you having the correct email in your account details. If you have an old email there that you don't use we will not be able to contact you. Make sure your email is updated under account management!!

Originally by: Sadist So how much time will this take on average per day?
Varies widely, and is according to the individual. I sometimes spend several/many hours a day reading and moderating, and other days I do a few once-overs that may take an hour or so in a day.
For a more in-depth answer, feel free to apply, and ask at the end of your interview --

No, you can stay in your current corp. You are given a totally separate login. --

To answer a few questions.
Why these special requirements?
The reason we're looking for specific timezones and languages is simple. We need people with these skills or location because we need more or we haven't got any. The reason we don't accept other applications is because we are volunteers after all, and have very limited time to recruit, each new moderator represents a few hours of work, not to mention the time we put into training them once they are approved.
(Updated the top post).
Why volunteer?
We simply like to help out, and sacrifice some of our spare time to do so. Some people like it, some people don't. You're not a bad person if you don't like it, but you are probably a bit crazy if you do.
How much time does it take?
The Moderator Team is divided in 3 squads, though it will grow to at least 4 in the near future. Each moderator is assigned to one squad and required to read his squad forums once every 2 days. So once every 2 days we expect you to check about one third (soon one fourth) of the forums. Some forums are slow and doesn't require much while other forums take a lot of time. Moderators are allowed to moderate in all forums, but their squad forums is first priority. Some moderators really go above and beyond, others take it a bit more easy, but as long as you check the forums regularly and actively, you'll be fine. It probably sounds worse than it is, just remember that being in IRC while moderating is required.
Why are there two lists of requirements?
In the first list you have to meet all requirements. In the second list you only have to meet one requirement. You do not have to live in a US TZ and speak French, Spanish, Chinese and Russian etc, one of the listed things is enough.
Why do we keep deleting Avons posts?
Just look at his signature, is that the signature a sane person would use? No, it is not.
(*grin*)
I hope this explains the questions posted so far, please post if you have a question (except Avon).

There's not really an automatic filter, we simply check what country you are in on your application and we don't take it further if you're not in a US TZ, or if you haven't put one of the languages in your application. You can lie of course, but we will find out eventually, especially when you send in your documents. And lying on your application, interview etc results in immediate dismissal and no chance to join ISD again, ever.
Originally by: Appetite Obviously this forum is one of the ones that get's a workout. Regarding being a mod, and actually being in the US timezone with alot of time to access the forums during our "night", what are the requirements as far as equipment? Would we have to be logged into the client as well?
I'm asking because I have time to watch the forums M-F, and actually read them quite a lot during my ummmmm, shall we say work hours? lol. No access to client during this time, but am willing to contribute my efforts to aquire a blue dreadnought of doom(as pink is NOT my type of color.).
Seriously, someone to speak on this?(I'm timing your response!
You don't have to be logged into the client, in fact, you shouldn't be. But you do have to be logged into IRC.

With CRC we only send rejection mails when we are actively recruiting, the rest of the time we don't look into the applications because we have enough moderators. If you re applied for CRC starting during the recruitment you will receive an e-mail with our decision.

Originally by: Enforcia So still, how do you know witch one are from US time zones without a space where to specify what country are you from?
We have a way to look into those details and as I said we require proof of identification, usually that also says where someone lives. If someone is an immigrant I imagine they have other official documents that show where they reside at that moment as well.
Remember that speaking any of the languages above or living in the US is not enough to become a moderator, we look for other qualities as well.

Originally by: Shige Hi there.
To tell you the truth, I'm not interested in moderating the EVE forums, but I do have a question...(I don't know if my questions now void since I don't want the position. )
Anywho, out of curiosity, why is there an age limit?
Because you have to sign some legal documents.

Today the CRC recruitment has officially ended, we will send out the last e-mail regarding any applications today.
If you have been rejected please do not worry, you are free to apply at a later date when we have another reruitment drive, please keep in mind that you are not rejected for all divisions for ISD. So you can still apply for Star, and Aurora and they are very nice people as well.
We don't give any reason why people have been rejected, this is to prevent people from cheating their way in.
However, if you applied between the 23rd of August and today but haven't receveived any e-mail regarding your application, then please send us a mail at [email protected]
Hopefully you'll all see a few new faces with Moderator below them in the future on these forums, and please be gentle with them when you do
