This one has to be good. Shhh, no, don't say it. IT HAS TO BE.
I'm going to will us into getting at least one good movie this summer. Now be quiet while I'm willing, it's a difficult and exhausting action. |

Pacific Rim sounds intriguing. It's a Guillermo del Toro movie after all..so it might actually be "Transformers" in good. At least I hope so.

that is exactly my point
the best and most interesting films are made for TV these days and they not films they are series the last film i really enjoyed and loved was even made especially for TV ( the gathering storm if you reamy like to know and thats more than 10 years old ) with a few exceptions what is made these days are more like themeparkrides with little or no content and most of th time they just rechew the same topics over and over again

For real.
I was there when "Blade Runner" was a summer film.
I may be wrong or out of touch, but Pacific Rim just smacks of Transformers Redux to me.
And most of the general public has no idea what kaiju is.....at all. They will probably take to it like they did to anime......not at all.

Theres a lot of truth there.
As for the addition of the GLaDOS voice. I bet its only in that scene to entice the 18-30 range even more for "the lolz" "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

The only good thing about this is Pacific Rim is the film that dragged Guillermo del Toro away from the Hobbit while it was stuck in lawsuit hell, and turned it back over to Peter Jackson. The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde |

I see nothing about Transformers in Pacific rim. What I do see is Mech Warrior. But you have to remembe that Transformers Opened the door for more robot movies like it. I am looking forward to see Robotech Live action film coming out. Warner Brothers baught the copy rights from Harmony Gold.
But you cant say that every Robot movie is jocking off Transformers. If you remember from the 80's they made a Movie called Robot Jocks. Crappy graphics and poor acting but was still a great scifi movie cause it had big cool looking robots. My point is that all of the summer trailers I have seen seem like the same movie chopped up and released with different titles.
It's "Apocalyptic Earth with Vampire Zombies and Robots and Everything Explodes Constantly".
There is absolutely no substance at all to any of it. None. Brainless popcorn is fine, but it has become unrelenting and there is NO alternative offered.
And from what we are seeing of it now, I'm about to lump this new Star Trek in with this lot.
The only SF of promise is not until October when the new Alfonso Cuaron ("Children of Men") film "Gravity comes out. Starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. "Astronauts attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in space." Actually, word from the set is bad on this one.
And thank goodness.
I find it ridiculous that this is already the 2nd remake of a classic Paul Verhoeven film (other was "Total Recall").
He's probably pretty insulted. And rightly so. But probably glad that that particular one sucked so badly, as it deserved.
These reboots are just a really sad brainless exercises imho. The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde |

In a way. Debris did not crash into Apollo 13 though.
Edit: " Gravity, which stars Sandra Bullock as the lone survivor of a space mission, who is trying to steer her ship home to Earth, where her daughter awaits."
Apparently she is the lone cast for 80% of the film, and it features an unbroken 17 minute opening shot. The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde |
