Just out of curiosity, is it possible to join a NPC corp at all? I have 2.83 in standing with the corp I try to join, but I just get a message that they don't currently accept members. Funny thing is that I could swear that I've seen players who are members of corps like Viziam (which AFAIK is an Amarr non-newbie corp)...

Far as I know, only way to join an NPC corp is to leave a player corp and then it'll put you back in your default starting newbie corp.

What happens there, is that when you quit a player corporation, you are placed into an NPC corp for your race and bloodline. For example. If i were to quit my corp, I would be placed in the NPC corp, Sebiestor Tribe. There is no way to just join a random NPC corp though, but it was once possible i think.

It used to be possible at 4.0 standing i believe but was nerfed quite a few moons ago.
My 2nd account was in Roden Shipyards for quite some time 
Never got around to joining Serpentis, though i recall Tank CEO joining the Angel Cartel.

It used to be possible. A long time ago..
AFAIK the GM's booted most of them when it was changed. If you look in some peoples employment history you can see they've been a member of CONCORD amongst others.

I believe that they're going to bring back being able to join NPC corps soon, because of what CCP has said in previous dev. blogs about being able to chose the faction which we wish to represent and fight alongside them.

one of the reasons they removed that ability was because of an old char named Dirus, he turned pirate however joined Concord, which was a lil ironic, so i think the dev's stopped all that. i tried to join duvole a lil while back, (not too long back) it was working until i said id like to change the offer, then they declined me n so i cant join them anymore :/

NPC corps are reserved for use by the devs and event team, but I figure once the race wars happen (if they happen) they'll be opened up and anyone wanting to participate in it could join one. But who knows...

They're going to allow us to ally with NPC corps, not join them. If you ally yourself with one, you'll be like their agents, or subcontractors, who get bonuses of some sort for working with them, but also penalties, probably something like being at war with all their competitions' allies as well plus other things.
