This isn't related to game play, but I'm a noob and still trying to figure things out, so here goes:
When I click on the "My Character" link on the website, or if I try to go to "http://myeve.eve-online.com/character/skilltree.asp" directly, I instead end up on the "Players News Center" page.
Is anybody else having this problem? And yes, I am properly logged in to my account on the website. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't get that on high speed connection, but if i try to log on somewhere using dial-up it happens. You wouldn't happen to have a dial-up connection?

Edited by: Darinaaz Miles on 28/08/2005 03:00:47 Hmmm...well after some experimentation, I've found that the link works fine when I'm at home, but not at work. I've got DSL both places, although my DSL at home is much faster than that at work. Go figure. Maybe speed of connection does play some part in it.

If you're not logged in yet, and you click on it, it'll log you in automatically and send you to the front page, the Player News Center. Once you're logged in, click on it again. -- Proud member of the [23].

I sincerly doubt that connection speed matters at all.
I have noticed that choice of browser does make a difference, for example, Maxthon, using tabbed browsing (each link opens a new tab) the "My Character" "button" brings me to news page, HOWEVER, if I toggle the new tab off (so links open in the current tab) then it works properly, bringing me to my character.
So, if you use something other than IE for a browser, that could be the issue.

It works just fine in Firefox. It would work just fine for you, if you used Firefox, and not crappy IE. -- Proud member of the [23].

My point was not to start a browser brand war, but to point out that it could be the issue.
For the record IE seems to work fine, as does Maxthon (which I use) as long as I re-use the tab rather than open a new one, which I also have to do with Gmail.
Glad to hear that Firefox works, though personally I don't care for it, I find it quirky.

Hope to avoid a browser war, but what do you find quirky about Firefox? Ever since I started using it I've found IE "quirky", with its horde of popups that even SP2 doesn't block, along with its support of a bunch of features that I'd rather it not. Also, it has horrible HTML support--trying to get your style sheets to work on it is impossible. -- Proud member of the [23].

An update, for what it's worth. I still can't get to the "My Character" screen at work. I've logged into the site, cleared my cache, and done everything else I can think of, and it just won't work. Ah well, I should probably be working anyways.

Edited by: Rasca Juono on 06/09/2005 23:16:44 Figured this out finally.
My privacy software has set page referrals off. When I changed this for the eve-online.com domain I was able to correctly get my characters to pull up. Each different suite of privacy tools has a different way of doing this so you might have to dig into the documentation yours came with to find the proper procedure.
Hope that helps.
Edit: nasty speeling.

That worked for me as well, allowing Private Headers in ZoneAlarm for www.eve-online.com. I thought the character sheet had been broken for months!

I too suffer from not being able to access my character on line.
I have tried w/IE6 and Firefox 1.0.6
Followed the advise of: 1. Goto Forum 2. Log-in 3. Select My Character -- Even to closing down the browser completely and starting afresh.
a. Cookies are enabled in both. b. Privicy has added eve-online.com and myeve.eve-online.com as authorized. c. Still goes to the news page

It says the following to me :(
Character Info Charactersheet disabled.
So maybe there was a problem with it or maybe they are updating it :)

I can normally get in, but I'm getting that message now too, so I'm hoping it's just something they are working on.

Not sure if it's related but this was said in #eve-chaos (test server irc channel) by a hop yesterday.
[23:31.20] <&t20> characterSheet is disabled until further notice, ECM will not work [23:31.46] <&t20> it will remain in this state until the area has passed the 40day quarantaine
It where not said in context of any discussion, just out of the blue with no comments before or after.

I now know what the problem is.

Character Sheet Taken Offline by Gilgamoth on Thu, 22 Sep 2005 04:09:56 MST
t20 has just contacted us to let us know that the CharacterSheet part of MyEVE has been taken offline.
"We have been aware of a problem that ECM is creating and have been struggling to fix it, but the load of lots of new people downloading ECM had pushed the myeve Server to the limit.
I'd like to apologise for this and we will endevour to fix the problem as soon as humanly possible.
As a precaution can you please switch your ECM update mode to Manual to stop it hammering the myeve server for updates while it's offline.
Regards
Gilgamoth and the Development Team"

I got similar problems with the EVE main page all the time. Like just now, I had to click "Reply to topic" twice just to get the meesage editor to come up. The first time it just refeshes the thread. (it doesn't ever cause a double post when I do that, either)
Just about everything on the EVE Insider does something like this to me. If its when I first open the browser, it usually takes me to the Player News Center or the Forums when I try to go anywhere else (including the log-on page!). I figure this has something to do with cookies and maybe the local isp, because it happens in both IE and Firefox, and when I'm on my college campus or at home... which is right across the street .
Just clicking the link again takes me to the proper site, though. I've only ever had problems like this on eve-online.com.
Weird!
