It began when SGE started attacking the north. And really when Stain got set to -10 by everyone in the north. During my time in Stain I tried to push on both sides to fix this but failed for several reasons.

but mlm is a corp of 5 alts. our mission is to join enemy alliances and bring them down within a few months. were very succesful at this.

The great world war won't really start all at once. Frankly trying to start an all out war, though it would be fun, would at the same time be pointless.
Frankly niether side can take an opponents station and hold it for any significant lenght of time. Esp when you consider each sides 'home' base are some 60 jumps away from one anouther. Which is why [5] didn't consider taking a station in fade or dek when we were up there. Or why we laughed when the 16 alliences ran through our space taking over are own stations. The entire effort is futile, save for maybe enticing a fight.
It will/has began much in the same way it is now. [5] or BOB or some other entity will begin the crawl north (or vice versa.) It will happen region by region. And not be a full out attack. While the war may cover a large area at any given time, the actually area under contestation will be very small.
