It's very frustrating to volunteer hours of MY TIME on sisi testing these patches for CCP, then filling out details bug reports for the people who decide what to do with these patches... and then logging onto the live server after patch day and seeing EVERY SINGLE bug I reported on sisi still in existance on the live server.

Just something worth bearing in mind with drones attacking things they shouldn't.
I find that usually when my drones aggro a group of npc's they shouldn't, it's because they've actually wandered to close to the npc's and it's the npc's that have started firing on the drones causing them to respond.
Might be worth using the tactical overlay and overview to keep an eye on their position.

I believe Drones should be adjusted to ignore structures, or avoid firing on them unless ordered to by a player.

Originally by: lickspittle Drones do not and have not ever attacked anyone for no reason. The sole reason they attack is because someone committed aggression against you (or something you own), or you committed aggression against someone else (and they join in). If there are bugs where they attack for no reason, then the bug is in the eye of the beholder, because if it wasn't it would be easily reproducible and not just a vague rumour. I imagine that the case you observed was that the new group of NPCs were owned by the same owner as an old group you had recently destroyed - therefore there was recently tracked aggression between you. Its just the way drones work, sometimes it works in your favour and other times you have to watch out for it. I know some people like to just believe the drones will magically do everything they want, but unfortunately, this is not the case - they just behave according to simple rules.
Then what are the ownership rules?
Take room 2 of a level 4 guristas extravaganza.
If you engage the 1 bs/3 inty group that is generated on the far left (from reference of looking along the direction of the acceleration gate), you CAN get situations where the drones after popping one of the 3 intys will attack ships from other 'groups'.
Now from what I understand of how this works, each of the groups of npcs is it's own independend group when it comes to ownership. IF this is the case, then drones attacking other groups would be in direction conflict of what you stated. However, if ALL of the npcs in the room are the same group, then the drone behavior is correct.
IF the latter is the current and correct situation, can we then get the drone code switched to mirror the NPC aggression rules, which would not only make sense (why would the drones shoot stuff not shooting at you) but it would make life MUCH easier for all of the players :p

I believe the latter option is correct. All enemies are "Angel" thus, the owner is same. and this causes the sporadic attack pattern of "Let's attack something at somewhere in range"
More preferable would be an added drone option of "Only attack targeted hostiles". Current logic would still keep the drones from attacking friendlies, and only targeted enemies with agression would be attacked.
Plus, one could use ECM to prevent drone attacks =) --- SigPl/HQ&Log Coy/MNB(C)/KFOR |

Nearly lost 2 ogres the other day, they were stuck together and a npc spawned in near them while they were moving slowly.
I appreciate Lickspittle's post.
Now if we can just hear from the Physics programmer person that he/she does see this issue as one he will work on.

^ Just as a note, people generally count aggroing a non-involved group of NPCs (which happens all.the.time. in deadspace missions) as attacking for no reason.
As for the 'sticking' issue, I think that's a misconception, since I've seen similar behaviour occur with just one drone, moving at extremely low speeds about 1700m from the ship, requiring you to swing around. Although I haven't seen that since the patch.
While we're on the topic, it's very weird that some drones don't slow to orbit speed when attacking, and that some drones don't speed up from orbit speed when traveling to a new target. -==- Holy-Jim> as you know, surprise is the key to victory.....surprise! I am just pleased this has finally acknowledged as a bug. There have been a few in the game (and still a few left) that have been a problem for ages and all we ever heard was that this wasn't a bug and/or doesn't entirely exist b/c it hasn't been reproduced.
I'm happy we've been listened to here. I hope in future this stuff is accepted quicker. When scores of ppl are saying something happens, bet that it happens.

Drones are so stupid. Their max speed is like 1300m/s I fly 500, and they still cant get in range to scoop them. They fly behind me. But most stupid is when I go to complex, and they start shooting .... CANS. Yes cans, those spawned containers. No to mention lags. You know what is LAG MASTER? Guy in dominix with 15 drones:)

So in short does it means that drones are usless for a while? I am a new player and I like the drone idea but if it is broken I would rather spend more time (a.k.a money) on usefull skills...

It means the DEV's are slow to react and ignore much.. Yea! A defect to the guy responsable for the physics engine? That response dosen't make me happy.. I'll send him a link and thats all? I want some proof that actual work and progress on issues is bing acomplished.. All I see is 1 Dev occasionaly giving us lip service to make issues cool down.. My dissapointment with this game is causing my temprature to rise at a steady pace.
drones can, and sometimes will, get you killed in their currant condition.
