Would it be possible to show last logged in date and IP on the character screen?
It doesn't seem like asking for much but it would definitely fill me with confidence if I could see my IP and date I last logged into the game every time I log in. I'd like to be sure that no-one is secretly accessing my account while I'm offline and it would allow people to report such situations to CCP as soon as they happen (or rather, as soon as the person hacked notices it). This could potentially stop some drama before it happens.
Surely such information could be nicely added to the character choice screen, to not stick out as out of place.

That in itself is a security hazard. If someone manages to get hold of your passwords and log into your account, they will not only have your account information on hand, but now your IP address on hand as well to cause all sorts of problems. |

I see your point but it's a standard practice in most of the enterprise software so I guess the rewards outweight the risks. IP address in itself isn't all that useful. |

But coupled with your credit information (if you are using a credit card) it can be a wealth of knowledge down to where you live. Also while IP address can by proxied so to speak, it is unlike that most people will due to the fact to proxy you create lag cause your are sending your packets somewhere else before it sent to the server website. Sometimes, certain networks will outright block you if they detect you are using a proxy of some sort, so most people will be using their default dynamic IP address, which ever provider uses a Dynamic algorithm which they can pinpoint you, thus you can have everything from (to the most extreme) Identity theft, to (the least extreme) more junk mail waiting for you in your mail box. While you are correct, MAC addresses are much more useful to a hacker for them to break into your computer, an IP address can be just as useful to someone that knows what they are doing. |

So you would rather not know that someone is accessing your account? |

IP's are not super secret information. In the same way your home address is not super secret information. Sure you could chose not to tell someone you address, but they could just check, hell they could google map your house and get the address.
Many other MMOs offer this information up and it really does help to be able to glance at the last logged in bar as you're logging in to check if the last guy on your account was you. And it can be a real help in damage control to find out if someone has gained access ASAP.
If someone has been able to gain access to your login/password (assuming you were not so stupid as to just tell it tosomeone) Then they probably already know your IP. At that point its really the least damaging bit of information they could have.
A nice suggestion that exists in several other MMOs and is a nice simple easy to implement feature. |

if you are that paranoid, just randomly change your password every few days and scan your system to make sure there's no hidden keyloggers running in the background.
I think this proposal complicates things as after all if you are on a dynamic ip. your ip address may change every day or every time your router boots up. You'd have loads of ip addresses to look at in the character history all of which would be you, but they'd all look different. You'd then have to check each one individually to be assured that it's you. Time for the tin foil hat. |

I understand your concerns, but even on dynamic IP, the ISPs are usually granted a block of IP addresses and most of the time the dynamic IP is going to be in the same range/subnet. Also, if in doubt, you could always run an IP lookup and check. At the moment, I'm paranoid but there is no way for me to check. |

And what nefarious deeds is someone supposed to be able to do with your IP address? |

proof that people in this forum don't bother to read, I however quoted myself, and this quote was taken from a post that is on this same very page.

If somebody has your account credentials, they already have access to your IP address -- or what you would hope is your IP address. If you log into the account management portion of the EVE website, you can see the last ~20 IP addresses used to log into your account (this shows both logins to the client and the account management section).
Adding the same information to the character selection screen can only serve add a warm fuzzy feeling.
