ItŠs weird, there i am sitting in my ship and suddenly, without any message, i am back in reallity. All i see is my desktop, EVE is completly closed. Sometimes i can play 12 hours without any problem, somedays i crash (CTD) 10 times. In the beginning i thought, "hey you crap computer .. " so i tested it on other machines and "hey it isnŠt my computer, it is EVE !" ..
Who else has this problems ? Never meant to do so ... |

Edited by: Fitz Chivalry on 30/08/2005 11:52:45 I have the same problem - sometimes I will play all night with no problems, other times I can crash 5 times in a 3 hour session.
The internet is still connected even though I get a "connection to server lost" type message.
I thought it was a cache issue but then I dowloaded another copy of the game to use with a second account and that has the same trouble even though the cache is practically empty.

Since this patch, the only time I get a CTD is if my Internet connection drops out. Before Cold War, I'd get client crashes 3-4 times a week.

On the first day (I did spend about 20 hours in on my first day) it went about 10 times.
The next 4 (I'm only 5 days old), I guess only 2 times total... So I can only guess I've subliminally taken in the cause of the crash and avoided doing it. ;)

I usually run between 2 to 6 accounts on the same computer and almost never CTD. The only time I get booted is when there are server problems like when their switch/router/whatever went bad a couple of weeks ago. That isn't crashing though. That's just getting disconnected. I had a friend that had the problem you describe though. I went over to his house to help him out and discovered 5 viruses and enough spyware to fill a semi on his machine. After a nice reformat of his hard drive he was happily playing EVE with no problems at all. When I bring up my Windows Task Manager after a reboot I only have 21 processes running. He had 84 . After his reformat he only had 20.

Pretty much never.
It sort of crashed once when I was playing DAoC and EvE both at the same time(I do this a lot) but I think it was created by my screwing around and not Eve.

Ignoring the lost connections, and server-side node crashes, I haven't ctd at all for as long as I can remember (at least 3 months).
The secret? Not continually updating drivers to the latest versions. It's a philosophy that works with all games. If a new driver comes out check the notes. If there are no issues resolved in the driver notes, then don't install. Simple. Same goes for BIOS upgrades.

I used to crash up to 6 times an hour, but i had almost no CTD at all since i replaced and expanded my RAM about 6 months ago.
I did test my old ram and it wasn't faulty, so my guess is upgrading from 512 to 1024 is what made the difference for me.
Now, i still get the occasional crash. But often it is weeks or months between them.

My Computer is clean from any virus or spyware and i am behind a router. Tasks i have only 27 and all of them has to be there. But yes, this can cause a problem, if you have virus or some other software running, so i play eve without any other software in the background. Other games donŠt have such a problem. I found out that you can increase the priority for eve and the game runs a bit better. Which Windows you use ? Never meant to do so ... |

I'm in USA also. Sprint/Earthlink 1.5Mb DSL. Very happy customer. Zero connection problems on my end. Only connection issues I have are when the EVE nodes go stupid. When I get booted I always check EVE-I population graph and I always see several hundred other players getting booted as well.

About once a day since the Cold War patch. Never had it before. Nothing about my computer or connection has changed. Eve has changed.

well the servers running eve could be 18 months old - technology that old will start to lag with extra load - CCP upgrade youre hardware and encounter less node issues and higher capacities.

The only way I found to crash EVE, is to play in full screen and do an "alt-tab". As I don't play in full screen anymore, I don't have crash. And my EVE can run for a very long time with no problem at all.

Prior to the Cold War patch, CTD was a thing of the past. Now I get both CTD and loss of connection 1 or 2 times per session.

maybe with more player movemens nodes are going up and down in usage but overall being used more - could mean more chance of lags - crashes and other nasty bugs

before the cold war patch I only used to crash occaisionally, since the patch I crash all the time, sometimes its 5 times in the space of a few minutes ....
I suggest the name of eve should change from Eve Online : Cold War Edition to Eve Online : Crash to Desktop Edition :P

For me, it happens every time (Well, almost every time) I switch to windowed mode, then open some other thing like a web page. I usually don't even notice it has happened. When I'm done whatever it is I was doing, I go to click on Eve and it's not there. No error message or anything. I've noticed that any time I go through a jumpgate while eve is windowed and I am looking at another page it happens, but also sometimes when I am sitting in station or mining. --------------------

Oops, bad stick of ram. Replaced, crashes stop.
