The pirates only started claiming Venal was a great region when they realised they couldn't go to Stain without being owned.
I have no problem with that :)

look in the mirror.
if the stain alliance kills players indiscriminately, that makes them no better than the pirates they so adamantly claim are the villains.

Venal Alliance do it the same way but Stain Alliance are the good guys :)

At least someone took my jab lightly
You caught us Calvert, now we're all happily mining away on the opposite side of Space.
in all honesty, we moved to Venal because it was simply closer, and we pirates are ever so lazy.

We couldnt claim Stain? That is pretty funny actually. Better opportunities came up so we took them.

the stain alliance arenÆt the good guys. you are the idiots. you guys kill without restraint, the REST of the definition of indiscriminate. the pirates are at least smart enough to hold you up for some money and then let you go on your way.

Entering Stain without prior permission is provocation.
Ask RUS - they were given ample opportunity to leave when they broke the agreement. Unfortunately for them, they fired first on one of our ships and are now paying the consequences.

"Entering Stain without prior permission is provocation."
Realistically, doesn't someone who's new have to actually enter the Stain region in order to find about this requirement in the first place, and to get in touch with those who can grant that valuable permission?..

does your corporation know you are speaking for them, because you are talking in circles.
"Entering Stain without prior permission is provocation."
"...they were given ample opportunity to leave..."
which is it? does anyone entering stain provoke an attack or do you give them ample opportunity to leave?
here's another nice tidbit from your own home page:
Code of Conduct - Corporation members will not engage in any combat without the permission of the board. - Corporation members will always represent Everlasting Vendetta in a positive light
maybe it's time to update the charter.

ok, so how do you get permission to be in the Stain region? I was under the impression if you weren't a pirate or troublemaker you would be free to come and go. I can kinda see the point in keeping the trash out of the region but that shouldn't mean anyone that isn't in the alliance shouldn't be allow in there.

Sounds like anybody entering the stain sector for any reason, who is not in a corp that is a member of the stain alliance, will be destroyed on site. Wow, that's what M0o did to my corp in the Lonetrek Region. Except they'd ask for money for safe passage, which we got. Glad I looked on the forum before venturing into the Stain Region. If I'm wrong, please tell me. :)

I must heavily defend Stain alliance on this matter.
The reason there is an alliance is that Stain has rare ore AND staions in the same systems. It's 0.0 space, so everyone is free to claim it. That's very simple. SA has the power to claim it. This is very much the purpose of this game!!! There are other places to mine rare ore with stations, so you don't have to go to Stain. And it's unlikely you'll get a mining-permission in Stain. So don't go there to mine.
However, the bad reputation SA has, is very much because some trigger-happy people no longer part of the alliance. And some really stupid guys going there stating "you don't own this, I do whatever i want too", then blown up, and then whining on the forums.
If you're about NPC-hunting, there is no point in making 20 extra jumps to get to Stain, instead of just staying in Catch/Providence regions. However, there are people with permission to solo fight NPCs in Stain.
If you're into trade, whether you do a run with "trade goods" or go to Stain to trade valubale items, you're most likely very welcome. It's very simple. Be nice, and tell them your on your way to Stain and why... Once you enter Stain, you should see some members from SA in local. How hard can it be to stop there and make a post in local. Ask for someone to talk to. You'll get a name. If you're friendly, I'm very sure you'll get a friendly answer. If you're going to Stain to buy some items, a battleship, a HMBL, a Vortex II etc: how hard can it be to ask the seller to go to the "first system in Stain", or tell othem members you're on your way to do business with him.
And if you're a single explorer, I bet you're welcome in most systems(but not in HQ systems). Same procedure... If you enter a system with lots of people in local, tell them you're a single explorer in a friendly way. And most important if you decide to stop in one system and check everyting out. Then you're really stupid if you don't contact locals and ask them for permission...
*edit* To answer the question: "are they pirates or just pk'ers?" They are not pirates. They just have the power to claim a bit of the EVE-world. Just like races has done before... They are not pk'ers. PK is against the "rules". Only corporations with a KILL ON SIGHT standing can expect to be killed. To be pod-killed, you'll have to not only brake the rules, but also use an offensive language...
In fact, many people should be thankful, since the alliance numerous times has set up big fleets to brake up pirate blockades in Catch/Providence. Why do you think most pirate corps are based far from Stain?

Thank you for the info Dalman. I understand the Stain Alliance's interest in insuring the corps have a protected source of minerals. I guess the only reason now I would enter the Stain Region is to see what skills and Blueprints are available, among other market items.

Stain Alliance looks to me like just another bunch of ordinary pirates, seeing as one of them 9 battleships camping DSS-EZ and neighbour systems locked me and missed with its laser before I hit the gate and jumped out when I was only there to pick up some goods. (Why even bother trying to shoot a ship going over 2km/s, anyway?)

Sure, np Ezuriah.
There are nothing special, either in BP's or items on the market(although almost all sorts of itmes/ships are manufactured in Stain). However, lots of people have many rare items to sell. But as stated above, if you get in contact with one of these(perhaps through trade channel), then either ask him to go to the "most north" system in Stain, or ask him to tell alliance members in their channel that you're on your way. Then you'll not have any problems at all.

I this hard to understand?: RUS has started a war on the entire alliance. Of course there are always a fleet set up because of that. And is it so hard to understand if they are also more agressive to outsiders? RUS got a permission to be there for some days, they used it to set up bookmarks to prepare for the war. Every outsider may be a spy or even a RUS alt char.
If you plan to go there in these days, when the by far biggest conflict in EVE to date is going on in Stain, then you actually has to be either stupid or have a very good reason. And if you have a good reason, it should not be hard to make sure the Stain fleet don't attack you.

Hehe, I'm not worried about being attacked. Heck, I expected to be attacked so I took out my trusty cheapo cruiser fitted with cheapo speed gear for the job (the right tool for the job eh). Point is, for people who do not know what's going on or know about the policy of Stain Alliance (trust me, that's a lot of people), this blockade firing upon them WILL be perceived as an ordinary pirate blockade.
On a side note: a person did actually ask me what I was doing there and told me to leave in 5 minutes or else. Threat = end of conversation.
