I really donŠt like this idea of hundreds of men, women and children working and dying in a battle ship. To me its a medieval concept. The way i see it, the crew of my ships is composed of androids. One of them acts as the interface between me and the other androids and also to the ships computer. Basically these androids only need a bust and some kind of way to transport themselves thru the ship (rails, mag lev, etc). With the upper part of the body resembling the human shape, they can do all the chores needed in a ship. IMO this is the way it should be. If we have faster then light traveling, sure we can build some androids to get blown up instead of people.

What makes you think there are women and children on your ships?

I think in this day and time women work in the same places as men do. The children part was just to exaggerate the issue.

Well, if there is any proper evidence to take from the Red Dwarf series, I believe you might be right and you might also have explained why my ship suddenly stopped in the middle of an align that would have saved my ass....
Anyway, it might have been the time for them to all be recalled and put into Android heaven |

I thought only CONCORD ships and such were crewed, I always figured the 'pod pilots' controlled the whole ship by being linked to it in their pods.

THere is a short story (the one that introduced conqurable stations) and a Chronicle "The Hands of a Killer" that state we have crews. Some of the ships have crew attributes but it was deemed to silly or something and left behind and never implanted. You can see the crew numbers on one of the game dumb sites.
Pods just allow for less crews and better ship management.

When i first read that there were crews for the bigger ships (i think about 600 people for a bs) i freaked out. With the amount of ships that are destroyed every day, it's amazing there are any humans left in EVE. So, i decided i wanted a different approach to this matter. That's why i did this post to express my opinion. Most of you guys preferred to post funny remarks (some of them pretty funny btw), and its fine with me. But still would like to read some constructive comments cause i know there are people that think about this kind of issues. Thanks for the inputs.

But seeing as how cloning isn't even close to being a way to get around death, you can still say that lives are being thrown away at quite an impressive rate. (sure, your clone takes up right where the original left off, but the original is still dead)

Yeah I remember when ships had Crew attributes, but I thought they dropped them to go with the whole pod pilot thing. It makes more sense to me that way anyway, have little robots or whatever to repair damage and do maintenance and use the other 90% of the brain the pilot doesn't use to control the ship. Why would the pilot be sitting in a pod all by his lonesome if he has a crew around him?

I know, I even pointed out that I had seen the second season earlier in the thread .
They weren't in the first movie because Oshii, the director, has no sense of humor, and loves turning everything into a boring-as-hell philosophical dissertation with no soul. He doesn't understand Shirow's work at all. Not to say the movies are bad, but if you compare, say, Innocence and Appleseed (first by Oshii, second by Shirow) you can see the VAST difference in style. Well, if there is any proper evidence to take from the Red Dwarf series, I believe you might be right and you might also have explained why my ship suddenly stopped in the middle of an align that would have saved my ass....
Anyway, it might have been the time for them to all be recalled and put into Android heaven
Is that where all the calculators go?
I believe that is indeed where all the calculators go :)
Do I have a head shaped like an amusing ice cube?
More like a freak formation of mashed potato
Man... looks like there's a fair few red dwarf fans play eve

I -always- use Weyland-Yutani for my ship's crews. I find it's cheaper and they don't get drunk. Besides, I can't cover clone insurance for the entire crew and with slaves you have to buy food.
Besides, I trust Weyland-Yutani Corp. Don't you?

Yeah, I never heard about anything going wrong when Weyland-Yutani is hired. They always do things just right, and never get any evil aliens involved, do they? -- Proud member of the [23].
