Same idea is posted in Missions area and I though it would be worthwhile putting it here aswell.
Idea was, that in empire you can hear random communitations/chatter of the security forces when your arround station/gates/where ever there are security forces. Also chatter and taunting of rats when you attack them.
Imagine something like this: Concord:*static* "<random name from local overview of area>, I`m scanning you cargohold for contraband...hang on"..."Your all clear, have a nice day".
Someone noted that way back in beta, you actually had this feature, what happend to it? Why has it been removed?

Ever played Freelancer? There you also have npc chatter, but on the backgroud, though you can still understand what`s being said. The cargohold scan is not something that happens all the time, thats impossible when you have tens of jump each 15 min. I would almost begin to feel sorry for those pilot, imagine the workload

I used to play heavily and the NPC chatter never bothered me and it highlighted when i was getting scanned so i could scarper for the nearest trade lane lol
But when in combat it was best,
"I'm gonna turn you into space-dust"
15seconds later
"WAAHHH IM BREAKING UP" *static* "HELLLPPP" *static* "NOOOOOOO"
Bang
So humurous how the NPC's beefed them selves up ---- Join Us

I'm not so sure about chatter, it worked in freelancer because combat was... well, upclose and personal you were manualy piloting and fireing your weapons as aposed to eve where everything is more tactical and somehow more "long distance"
If by chatter your meaning some very quiet background clicks and whisles as your ship is picking up coded em noise in the background then thats fine by me, it gives a little more depth to the enviroment but I wouldn't like to see actual words and phrases come out.

Thats already ingame. Just zoom in on NPC's they all have a different background noise (drones are creepy).

Tbh all of it is arguable, yes it would add some realism but after a while you wont just pay any attention to it or will disable it at all, and dont forget, even simple feature as this requires some recources (for example extra disk space, cpu, sound card mixing channels etc) as such increasing client load for irrelevant feature.

No.
I played Freelancer too.
It sounded cool at first, but eventually became incredibly annoying. -- Proud member of the [23].

I like this idea, make it so the volume of the chatter increases or decreases with distance from source. Non Nobis, Domine, Non Nobis, Sed Nomine Tuo Da Na Glorium |
