i don't have an issue with guys having female avatars. some of them make some pretty good ones. just don't pretend to actually be female. your follies and shenanigans are only making things more exasperating and irritating for we legit girls that game.
not that any of the guilty will actually heed that advice. felt compelled to add my 2 cents anyway. |

Exactly, now that's the reason that I did not use a female avatar. I have used female characters on other single player games, for example Skyrim. But that is the reason I did not for this game, I think I would get annoyed if someone who didn't know me saw my female avatar and name (have to use a female name if the avatar is female right?) and was talking about me as a REAL female by saying, "her", or "she". |

Galaxy Pig is my main character and, if you like, I'll walk you through my noob thought-process as I recall it.
After reading the descriptions of there various races and observing that Caldari is very obviously the best one, I noticed how all the Caldari men of the time were either weasly-looking Asian men or Neanderthal-football-player types (not much improved today). A sexy looking Civire girl seemed like the much better option.
Also, consider these points:
1) If everyone chose their Avatar's gender according to their real life gender, New Eden would be a sausagefest, and nobody wants that.
2) Not picking a female character because "it would be gay", in my mind, actually reflects back at you and testifies to your own latent homosexual tendencies you have yet to come to terms with. So, pretty much the way I see it, not having at least one female avatar, is kinda gay. Friends of mine have tried to give me s*** about having a girl avatar, I always just laugh and think how they must not be secure in their own gender identity.
3) Whether they realize it or not, guys are more inclined to be nice/give stuff to pretty girls. You could see how this could be advantageous in EVE, particularly for new players.
4) Perhaps there's a divide between people who view their avatar as an actual digital representation of themselves, and people like me who feel less "at one" with their avatar. I think of Galaxy Pig as more of a pet I own who lives in the Internet and likes to blow up exhumers.
5) In conclusion, girls are pretty, guys are ugly.

Always assuming it's a guy. If it's a girl she can object. No |

i don't know. i've seen some rather attractive guy avatars in this game (pixelatedly speaking, naturally) and, on the other hand, some pretty awful female ones. lol |

Funny enough, ive been called "she" and "her" before, on comms, 3 months after ive talked with these people, daily. they know full well im a guy, but i guess the combination of a slightly high-pitched voice and the female avatar, they just dont care. |

I've always considered the characters separate from the player so I refer to the characters with their gender and to the players with their gender, defaulting to the character's gender if I don't know the player. Seems the sensible thing to do.
Since I consider my characters separate from myself I don't feel it's any weirder to play a female than it is to play a half-orc, a dwarf, a klingon, a fae or whatever else you can think of, none of them look like me, think like me or behave like me. But for some reason playing a male Fae is somehow acceptable but a female one isn't. Insecure much? |

I'm male in real life and I always create a male character which is my main. For this game though the general consensuses was to have 2 accounts so for my 2nd account I created a Female. That way for RP action, my main - male character - has a female character as a mate / girlfriend / wife. However, my female alt doesn't get much game time.

As someone posted in another (nearly identical) thread, because I like looking at good looking chicks, not white-eyed dudes with their arms crossed. All male here, but only a couple female alts. I HAVE, however, trained up some female alts just to sell them (industry, Orca/Hulk pilots, FW combat pilots, etc).

Yeah, that is the embarassing thing and why my main characters are always male. If a guy creates a female avatar then I don't care, I refer to them as a her. It's amusing when they try to correct you and say I'm actually a guy as if you should have known it. Although a lot of guys probably just roll with it seeing as they have obviously decided to RP a female character. That being said I don't know that many who have a female as their main character. |

Because for some weird reason having a female character makes stuff easier.
People tend to be less strict on their rules and principles.

It's a common problem in MMOs and when Eve when "3rd person view" with WIS, a lot of people who rolled dudes would have to contend with looking at some dudes arse.
But WiS is mainly a side note, a gimmick for when you want the fan in your computer to make more noise.
I rolled a female alt and found that it did not make me ghey or trans not want to cross dress (though I like to threaten to do that and keep my friends living in fear).

So why did you pick a female character?
I created my character a LONG time ago. Back when there was no WiS and back before gender and race had any bearing other than how your portrait (that you rarely ever saw) looked. Back then nobody had ever suspected we'd be able to walk around with our characters or that they'd ever be anything more than a silly looking picture.
Now that character avatars are in the game, I would like to change my characters gender and blood line. My portrait looked VERY different back then from how it looks now. But when WiS became a reality we were not given the option to do so.
Trolling is like art. Anyone can finger paint, but it takes true talent to create a masterpiece. |
