No, sir, it's you that are the weird one.
But if you like I can link some gender locked MMOs for you try out. Be comfy with your own kind and all that.

Mascha Tzash wrote:The chances of getting free stuff from other players are increased by ~0.01%. It's more of a sliding scale where on one side you have respect but responsibility and on the other side you have freedom but no confidence. Females are less threatening to the alpha males which affords them more breathing room. Some mistake this for an advantage but females are also treated as less stable and less reliable. As a woman the advantages are very short term. The extra breathing room you are afforded is useful when you're new to a community but you are seen as naturally less stable and capable than men so there's a tendency for the men to coddle and protect you which makes it harder to grow and advance in a community so you have to work extra hard to earn the true respect. At the same time the ever present hunt for the true females and the witch hunt for the "fake" ones endanger your gender identity further because showing any sort of personal fortitude, strength or independence will have people pounce on you and accuse you of being male. On top of that you can't really counter that by throwing your sex around at every corner because then you undermine your position further by looking like you want to draw attention to the fact that you are a woman when all you really want people to notice is what you're capable of. So as a woman you're left to choose between being a giggling, smiley spamming moron. Having a posse of drooling idiots follow you around, making sexual innuendos at every turn. or throwing away your gender identity and turning into Hillary Clinton in hopes of a chance to earn some respect based on your own merits and capabilities. If there's some sort of middleground then I have yet to find it but it depends mainly on the people around you. Being a woman is in no way a free ride nor does it afford you unwarranted benefits. You merely pay for short term rewards with your long term dignity. If you choose to sell it that is.
From my experience, this says more about you, than about actually playing as a female in this game. As a female in RL and in game, i wouldn't do it any other way, basically gender politics in a space game yeah its there, but in my opinion, who can really be bothered. |

Also, 4 of my 6 characters that are actually used are male. But my favorite alt (my char with second-most SP) is female and somehow she is my favorite character
Although emotionally I feel that I play myself when I use my main, but more like I only control someone else when I play my female alt. . |

Just weird. To me it's pretty creepy that you think that way. When you play Mirror's Edge or Beyond Good & Evil, do you feel stimulated by the character? Are you simulating female interaction? Because if that's all women are to you, means of stimulation, that's pretty damn creepy. |

Remind me not to post when tired and about to face peak hour traffic. I wanted to come back to my throwaway comment and go into it a bit more.
I totally disagree with the freedom but no confidence thing. Do you mean, others having no confidence in you as a character/player because they identify you as a woman? That is pretty disgraceful, and imho a function of the maturity of the players around you. With my life experience, and my gender I have found there are flaky people everywhere, but in key areas (financial and work related) I have found most women that I have dealt with to be reliable and up front. The other male players I have engaged with in this game have treated me equally in this regard, they knew I was a female, I roamed, crafted, participated in alliance exec and in general perceived no major barriers/issues other than those triggered by my own pecadilloes, and the one or two immature players who dwelt within the prejudices you have outlined.
As to your other comment, respect and responsibility arrive in this place like any other (real life included), if you show competence you will be offered responsibility, and if you are not given the responsibility you desire, in Eve you can certainly go and make it yourself. Its up to you what you do with what you are offered/or can take.
If people have a problem with all of that and being female, time they grew up.
Quote:pounce on you and accuse you of being male. I find this pretty laughable, as it can be proved in a short minute using eve voice. The alternative is to ignore it and move on, again the idea that they could minimise the threat to themselves by implying your are female (ergo a lesser human being) or only competent if male is pretty laughable. Again if you do prove it, more egg on their face according to their own assumptions.
I understand where you are coming from, and there are prejudiced people everywhere, but in Eve you have more freedom than most places to put yourself in a respectful environment, without being hindered by real life pressures.
Your last statement really sums it up, and showed me that despite our differing interpretations we are coming from the same place Quote:being a woman is in no way a free ride nor does it afford you unwarranted benefits. You merely pay for short term rewards with your long term dignity. If you choose to sell it that is.
This I unequivocally agree with, and I would point out that this being a game, I will barter my dignity for amusement from time to time, but its generally self effacing, and never at the expense of someone else's dignity. This is what makes the difference for me, by treating others as individuals first rather than males or females we usually end up with a whole lot more amusement. Eve is full of pretty idiosyncratic people, and that on its own is usually enough
Terrorfrodo wrote:My main is male. I would feel a little weird if corpmates called me by a girl name.
My hubby made a female character, and it was damned funny when peeps called him Mary on comms. But we got over that pretty quick in the heat of battle, and whatnot. With names like Mr Epeen and whatnot floating around, there's plenty of other names you could choke on.
I might also add, I have quite a few female characters, none as amply endowed as Fleur. I had a great time with the character creator, and there was no doubt I wanted to push it to its limits in certain areas. On the other hand, I have buddies in real life not unlike this shape, and damned tootin, they love the way they look, and if you dis them for it, you ought to be prepared for the consequences. It was an exercise in something, and it is still playing out. |

Well, I'm a female and I usually play a female character as such. Most people assume I'm a guy until I join vent or ts and then everyone flips. Whenever I mention the boyfriend, they jump straight to the conclusion that we're gay lovers vs me actually being female. It's a little silly.
For most MMO's, I assume that guys just like the skimpy clothing and watching their char's bouncy butt and boobs. Since there's not a lot of char watching in this game, I think it's just that they like to be seen as less threatening than a guy despite actually being male. For example, if you were being chatted with by a non obvious man-name (an example of obvious male being obvious would be something like 'boobs mctits') vs if you were being targeted by DethKiller Shadowman or something overly masculine, you would probably feel more secure due to the disarming nature of the female figure.
I'm not a psychologist, I have no idea if this is weapon-grade bologna or not. All I know is is that it's a drop of water in a burning building to find a female character who actually is a female. |

While there are a number of male players that have created some awesome avatars for either gender there are also many male players that don't seem to care and are happy with the random button which can result in some truly bizarre looking results. These same players are probably the ones who just slide the breast size to the max without a second thought. Most of the female players (the above posts included) seem to spend more time in the character design process, and rarely will I see a character that feels randomly thrown together or awkward. |

Why do people think of gender differently than other attributes? Because changing your hairstyle or not shaving is on a slightly different level to "I think I'll chop off my tackle and get some silicone implants!" When you can hop bodies at a whim? Gender, height, skin tone, etc., to a capsuleer could be about as much of a deal as what coloured jacket to wear that day.

Solved by using 'they' and 'them', as English speakers have been doing for centuries, notwithstanding the efforts of certain grammarians in love with Latin.

Nice point too, though in EVE's setting, it seems at least for now that the gender of the clone matches that of the original. And errors in brain taping/imprinting the exception, the original personality usually goes with it. Or not? |

Then again, something similar to plastical surgery that doesn't affect neural system shouldn't be a problem IMO. Oh the perversion potential...
