Originally by: Roga Danar So there is contention over the Scythe and the Osprey, whats better?
Scythe does not have the CPU to mine and chew gum at the same time. Plus it looks like something out of "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. Or maybe like a Hoover vacuum rear-ended a Probe frig.

apoc = deep core miner 2 = 120 ore units per 3 min cycle x 1.25(mining 5) x 1.25(astrogeolgy) x 1.75 (mod laser cyrstal bonus) = 328.125 divded by 3 =109.375 per min cycle of a modded deep core 2 now put 8 of those on the apoc = 109.375 x 8 = 875 ore m3 per min cycle = 2625 per 3 min cycle now for drones = 10 harvester drones @ 37.5 ore per min being close to the roids works out to be 375 ore m3 per min from drones x 3 = 1125 per 3 min cycle , so we have 2625 + 1125 = 3750 per 3 min cycle (being that the apoc can defend itself a hell of alot better then the mining barge's being that you just swap your drons in and out ......
Dominix = deep core miners = 109.375 ore per min as stated above with the bonus's x 6 = 656.25 ore m3 per min cycle so x 3 = 1968.75 . now for drones 15 drones at 37.5 ore m3 a peice = 562.5 per min cycle so x 3 = 1687.50 so now thats 1968.75 + 1687.50 = 3656.25 same goes with the domi swap your drones out for protection .....
ill post the stats for osprey vs vexor soon i think you will be quite surprised ....

lets start with the sycthe 3 miner 2 laser's and only 2 drones = 558 ore m3 per min cycle from the lasers and 2 harvester drones = 37.5 x 2 = 75 so 75 + 558 = 633
vexor = 4 miner 2's = 372 ore m3 per min cycle now for drones 15 harvester drones 15 x 37.5 = 562.5 ore m3 per min cycle so thats 562.5 + 372 = 934.5 ore per min cycle
osprey = 3 miner 2's same with the sycthe at 100% bonus output = 558 ore m3 per min cycle and 4 harvester drones at 37.5 each = 150 ore m3 ore per min cycle so thats 150 + 558 = 708 ore per min cycle
i know what im flying do you .... ???

i do believe you are wrong, the osprey has 8 harvesters, not 4. so thats 300 + 558 = 858 m3 ore per minute. not as much as the vexor though but still, you were off. --------------------------

how can an osprey have 8 when the drone bay is 40 and harvester's weight is 10 ... i went to school ...
ive done my research i know my stat's if im wrong i accpet it but in this case im not ...

but with 4 harvesters your defence capabilities are so 3weak that 3-4 npc fregates can be a big problem.
The best "low cost" and low skill mining ship is the brutix. You can have 7 miner 2 and more then enough drones to mine with and to deal even with 0.4 npc cruiser classes.
In the question of osprey and scythe i would prefer the osprey because of the larger drone bay, the good CPU rate and the larger cargo storage. It also looks better then this Minmatar thing.

Problem some of these quotes of mining yield is that this is perfect conditions. And drones in perfect conditions require you to be next to the asteroids so that you dont have to waste time with them flying to and from the asteroids. IMO a ship with more lasers (and bonus like osprey) is more usefull and reliable than a ship which relies on drones to boost mining yield.

elrathis if you rock up to a roid field and you get close to a fair amount of roid's like i do i mine the close ones with my drones so they have little or no downtime in travelling and mine the furthest away with my lasers that way i get the benefit of drones with no travel time , so basically its like they are small mining lasers cause all they do is stop for like 1 secs then start mining again :-)

Nope T2 drones will give you more, because of smaller size: 4x t2 mining drones 31.25 each x 4 = 125 + 558 = 683
Quote:
vexor = 4 miner 2's = 372 ore m3 per min cycle now for drones 15 harvester drones 15 x 37.5 = 562.5 ore m3 per min cycle so thats 562.5 + 372 = 934.5 ore per min cycle
Ok, t2 drones would give less ore, but a place for a full pack of light drones for protection.

Again t2 drones to use: 31.25 x 8 = 250 + 558 = 808
And the advantage of t2 drones over harversters in a limited dronebay is even a bit bigger with faster travel speed and less expensive.

Edited by: marud on 09/09/2005 11:40:35 i deff agree with you there on those setup's ... still remains that the vexor is the king of cruiser's for mining and if you using tier 2 minig drones in the vexor you could carry a reasonable amount of hammerhead's aswell
and yeah with that vexor setup i was going for full amount of ore mining :-)
