BS= Apoc (if its pure mining output u want) or Dominix (if u want to mine in low sec)
Cruiser= Osprey
Frig= Bantam or Imicus
Barge= Large barge
Dread= Moros

Scythe = 2 standard launchers
- both getting the same bonus, so no difference here...

Hmm the reason why I thing Scythe is a little bit better than Osprey, is the size of the cargohold. Its somewhat bigger on a Scythe.

Mostly I agree with the answers but you are forgetting:
BC: Brutix AKA Minix: 7xMiner IIs with Electronics lvl5 and some co-procs. In fact I would call this the Ultimate uber mining ship of ALL classes. I have a guilty carebear past (player not char) I should know

I'd like to submit the Vigil for best Frigate miner, with high CPU it can easily fit two miner2's with low skills.

thats a fair point, and it gets another 4 slots the bantam doesn't get
however, my questions are thees:
are its caps enough to keep those 2 miner2s going?
and has it got a big enough hold to use effectively?

I've always been fond of the cyclone for mining.
The 5 miner II's grab a decent amount of ore
It shield tanks decently with the 4 mid slots leaving the lows for cpu/cargo spanders
the 3 launcher points allow the drones to be used for miners vs. ship defense.

Merlin can fit two miner II's also, just need a co-pro or two. Been ages since i tried.

Doesn't the Scythe have problems fitting 3 miner IIs because of its CPU? It only has base 225 (Miner II requires 80) whereas Osprey has base 275.
Same low slots, so, is Scythe gonna be seriously gimped with 3 Miner IIs?

Osprey > Scythe
While osprey has one less missile slot - try fitting 3 miner 2s on a scyhe - you can't very well - good luck fitting 2 heavies on top of that
Osprey has the bigger drone bay, 40 m3 to the scythes 10 m3, and also the bigger cargo hold.
Besides, a scythe needs to stack co-procs in lows, ospreyts can put a small repair and cargo expanders.
Also, 4x medium drones > 1 missile launcher, specially when you don't have the cpu to run it.
My favorite mining cruiser, however, is the thorax, with co-procs you can fit 5 miner 2s, 2 cap rechargers, 1 10mn ab1, and 1 small armor rep on the thing. You can also fit 8 heavy drones, which make an excellent defense in low sec space.

When I was an industrialist, the Probe with 2x Miner II proved to be nice in high sec mining. And with 3 light drones, it can have some defense.

The Osprey has a drone bay and at max skills its lasers mine more than a dominix.
For mining though a mining barge would really be the way to go, its not a very skill intensive path.

Some said Apoc, which is imho not right.
Best BS miner are Armageddon and Apocalypse together, due to several reasons:
1. Armageddon has one more low slot than Apocalypse, thus offering more cargo with cargo extender
2. Armageddon can equip seven miner II, thats one less than Apocalypse (read below on that one compared to other points)
3. Armageddon has a larger drone bay than Apocalypse
Cargo
=====
Max cargo of Apocalpyse is app 3,597
Max cargo of Armageddon is app 4,060
Drone Bay
=========
Armageddon drone bay 250
Apocalypse drone bay 150
let us assume, we use Miner II or Elite Mining drones. At max one needs 50 space withotu having replacement for mining drones. That leaves the Apocalypse with 100 drone bay space and Armageddon with 200 drone bay space. That totals to 4 heavy drones on an Apocalypse and 8 heavy drones on an Armageddon.

=========
Mining in dangerous areas requires protection by others or your very own firepower to at least kill spawns. Assuming your alone in low security, an Apocalypse is unlikely to survive too long in one place with 4 heavy drones. In fact that Apocalypse would either need to drop mining drones or equip one weapon turret.
When dropping all mining drones the Apocalypse is left with space for six heavy drones. With 6 heavy drones he still has a hard time to kill spawn.
When equipping a weapon turret (large would be needed), the Apocalypse still needs combat drones for defense,... - see the pattern?
Where an Armageddon with larger cargo space and eight Heavy Drones has a nice time to live and mine. Coupled with instajump bookmarks, the Armageddon has a higher mining yield than an Apocalypse in low sec space (as long as it is not the highly dangerous environments with wicked rat spawns).
Summary
=======
In secure space like 0.5 + an Apocalypse and Armageddon are close as the best miner. Armageddon with more cargo, Apocalypse with higher mining yield when in belt. So an Armageddon returns more "easy" ore like Veldspar per hour to a station than an Apocalypse. An Apocalypse returns more higher ore like Omber or Kernite to station per hour.
In low security areas the Armageddon performs slightly better than the Apocalypse.
In highly dangerous areas the Apocalypse is your choice, due to armor, shield and his 8 turrets.

WRONG !!!
The shyntie have 440m3 and osprey have 485. But the biggest differenceis that shintie have 10m3 drone bay ( = 2 mining drones 1 ) where osprey have 40m3 ( = 8 mining drones 1 ). so Osprey it's A LOT better that shyntie.

just wanted to clear up "best mining frigate".
it's either the Probe or Burst.
Both fit 2x miner II's with a little help. Both have the miner II cap bonus.
Probe has bigger cargo bay + 5% per minmatar frigate level. Burst has 5% extra mining yield per level.
In other words, Burst is the best yield/time mining frigate. Probe is best if you don't have a hauler for jet can mining.

WRong all, the best mining cruiser is... the Vexor. With 4 turret points, and 15 mining drones, it easily outmines a scythe or osprey with l5 cruiser skills, altohugh if the osprey uses its 8 drones, it becomes close.

tharbad - osprey and scythe have a 20% mining yield bonus per lvl (at lvl5 thats like haveing 6 lasers on your ship)
as far as best miners its the large barge with t2 strips and t2 ctystals but domi, apoc, geddon, brutix. destroyers are all good at mining in there own way

/me cant wait for the screenies of a Dread mining
back in my carebear days i discovered you got the best bang for your buck investing in a Domi for low-sec mining.
6x miner2s, armor tank, 15x miner drones (harvies if you got em) and a good mix of med/heavy combat drones can keep you alive and mining 23/7
