Work has just given me a laptop to use that's capable of playing Eve.

A mate of mine got his work PC upgraded so he found he could run Eve on it. Over the past 6 weeks or so, he's spent quite a lot of time during the days doing so...
He lost a Raven one day. NPCing in a belt, his boss came over so he had to alt-tab to something different. His boss just wouldn't leave..... so when he eventually did leave and he got to check back in - he was floating in a pod.
I must say, I laughed quite a bit when he told me about it!

First....
Thats a goddam lie... there is no such....
2nd, you ever tried playing eve on a laptop, maybe it's just me, but i just don't like it...
Small screen, hard to see it's so frekin dark, keyboard is like small and fragile, after 2 minutes of mashing my oversized fingers on plastic bouncey keys i just give up and log 2 back on my desktop.
But yeah enjoy.... and remember there's allways solitaire -------- 23
Arguing that namechanging would promote griefing is somewhat moot given the current FFA on that front.

I only brownse the forums while "working". Or actualy, getting paid to zip coffee, and talking nonsense, and accidently curing some SAP problems.
Would I play eve at work, I would get sacked pronto!
Why can't I just work in some cybergame cafÚ???

Edited by: Dreamdancer on 02/09/2005 16:44:47 Sweet FF grats!
As for playing on a laptop I love it. I have a Hypersonic laptop. 17" wide screen. 3.6 Ghtz P4, 2 gigs ram and a GeForce FX 6800 256 ram vid card. Runs like a scalded cat. Only lag I get is if I have a link death in space and when logging back in there is a bit of lag right at first.
Oh and my damn work network blocks the connection to the port to eve so I can't play here.

Should have kept autopilot set and done "click autopilot + alt + tab" instead of just "alt + tab".

At my Uni your required to lease a laptop from them and it's the only computer I use while at school.
It works well enough, and I can play in lectures _________________________________________________________

that depends on the laptop - i have a Dell 9300 inspiron that has a 17" widescreen with "Truvision" or whatever they call it - looks nicer on that than it does on my 21" monitor, actually :)

and, while my job's too busy to actually play EVE, i have setup a back-door into my home network, and via the magic of VNC i've been able to log in and set skills training so that i waste no time
boy, how i dream of having a job where i could play games...

Lucky git!
I have a job where i work shifts for half the year, and on nights there is nothing to do 95% of the time, apart from sleep or surf the net - so i'd love to be able to play eve, but our pc's are rubbish the lowest specs possible...
But people talking about remote access via VNC have got me thinking, it maybe a good way to connect and chat/change skills if nothing else... however, my question about these things is this: would VNC (or similar) work when the pc i am using at work is of a very low spec (ok processor & memory) but the most basic of gfx cards?? Would it work or am i just being a little too optimistic?

Houston we have a problem...
Laptop playes Eve fine!
However, I am having some network issues that not even my massive brain can solve.
The laptop is setup for my work's domain. Plugging it into thr LAN there, or searching for one of the many wireless hotspots is fine, the laptop can pickup a signal and away I go.
As soon as I bring it home however, things change. I can still plug it into the LAN physically and it works. Though when I search for a wireless LAN, the laptop can find it but fails when trying to get an IP address. My other existing laptop works fine however.
Laptop is Toshiba Tecra M3 with Intel 802.11g wireless.
Existing laptop is a Compaq something-old with a Netgear 511g PCMCIA card. Trying the card in the new laptop fails also.
Network is Netgear WG602 setup for WPA-PSK encryption, through a netgear switch, and finally into a wXP box running internet sharing. The WG602 does see the new laptop, but after a few miniutes it disconnects (when it fails to create a DHCP lease).
I figure that the laptop cannot create a lease for an IP address, but I am not entirely sure why. Both machines Event Logs/Firewall/IP logs don't indicate anything.

Tis possible the new wireless card/built in thingy isn't compatible with your access point at home, I know I've had problems with Intel cards and Cisco access points

Not sure, since the Netgear card doesn't work in the new laptop either.
Think it's wXP getting upset.
