eve will always be a very defined type of player some WOW players dont fit the long term idea.
That said eve can easily push to 200,000 paying players.

Eve will never be one of the biggest mmo's I don't think, because let's face it takes a certain type of patient person to really get into it. Every friend who i've convinced to try it packs in when trial is over because they can't get reward for little effort like most other games.
But it's deffinatly successful, and when so many mmo's die in their first year, that's great. ------------------------------

I have been pimping eve out on one of the biggest computer forums out there since I started playing. Usualy people havent bothered much but within the last month or so I have managed to convince alot of people to try it out, and of corse people either love it or hate it. But there are sooo many more players there than before.

It's probably because the whole WoW crze is dying and people are looking for something new. I think games like Vanguard: saga of heroes and City of Villians are going to hit the jackpot. ------------------------------

Edited by: Soo Han on 03/09/2005 10:55:51 Well WoW dont have any real endgame and instance that kill people with irl life.
Soo I seen alot of the old eve players returning + they take there new friends from wow here.
I got some diff responses:
-The tutiral is too slow -where is my 3d char?
the only thing and valid point is where is my char there is the point where eve lose paying customers. People want a char not a avatar. we are playing in the 2000 now.
That said: I most say I love eve But the start in EVE must be more intresting you can fall asleep during the first time in eve.

Eve needs to be thankful for WOW. It brought alot of new players into the genre. Now some of those new players are looking for other games to try and Eve seems to be getting its share of them.
This automatic bashing of WOW doesn't fit my idea of the supposedly higher level of maturity in the Eve player base. I prefer iced tea, my preference doesn't make hot tea bad.

I agree, some days I think the higher maturity level is just a falsehood we keep telling each other. Any way I think WOW was done quite wonderfully. City of Heroes was another well done game. I myself am a very patient person, which does allow me to not get wrapped up to the point where I make EVE a second job. If I feel like I must log on to aquire the tech2 wonder ship, I simply go play with my kids instead. I come back later when my head is on straight.

EVE has a much higher average age and maturity level than almost any other MMORPG.
This mainly has to do with the fact that the learning curve filters out idiots.

I keep reading that and i agree on the average age. I don't agree on maturity though. This forums are a flamefest andthere'shalrdly any PVPers out there than wont smacktalk after every killthey did.
Face it: We get older but not mature. Gawd samtimes i think i get more childish with every day i get older.
Edit: Not saying that other forums (like WOW) are better. Official MMO forums are a mess ingeneral.

The 'mature' age of a forum goes is usually a lot less then that of a person who just plays the game and ignores the forums altogether. This is because the more mature ones are usually
a) too busy to care about forums, they just want to play after work
b) are not that tech savvy. they learned the game, and not any of it's really advanced features, but they don't care/don't know about forums and they don't care to know
However, EVE really needs to do something to tap the US market more. EVE is huge in Europe, but not that big in the US. It could be argued that the US people are far less patient and 'less mature', but I think a nice big ad in the US PC GAMER or maybe a podcast with the PC GAMER dudes, or best yet, and updated review would really help. ------------------------------------------- If you do nothing to stop slavery, you do everything to support it!

Yeah but we don't want those players judging by games like Lineage 2 and FF11. Who wants weirdo's that don't talk and only scream "KEKEKEKEKE!!!!!!" all the time. ------------------------------

I was bored senseless when i found EVE, downloaded it, installed it, and i think the thing that got me hooked the first time i played was staring at ever bigger ships. The first thing i saw was a mining Thorax, and for me that made my day. Obviously back then i didnt have a clue what was what, but that thing looked damn sexy.
Over time i saw more and more ever bigger and shinier ships, which kept me going untill i found some of EVE more hidden qualities.
So i guess players returning from WOW are getting, as you all say, bored and looking to try something new. I'm sure the publicity fromt PC Gamer didnt hurt either.
I wonder how affective a new release of the game on shelves will do. I mean an up to date, ever shinier cover sitting in the shelves. I rekon people would buy it, i know i would have, since i never even heard about EVE untill i actually became compelled to search for a new MMOG. Yarr |

I'd like to see a push for EVE here in the US. The game play it's self weeds out most of the unwanted.
