I am sure quite a few people would love to stay out of low sec, the problem is that one .4 that is thrown in along some of the more common routes.
Altho on the other hand most of the campers have to clone in and out of those systems to be able to do somthng other then camp, as well as have all the supplys then need brought in to them by there good little miner alts or pay the npc market for it.
I suppose if they wanted to ccp could make it so low sec status players cant use the cloneing faciltys in empire. Might slow down some of the snipers who just pop in to get a few eazy kills. Then you will only see the alt snipers and the early makeings of a pirate.
Your not stupid just misinformed Ö

Edited by: Lifewire on 04/09/2005 10:14:33 First of all i have to say that we always wanted to pirate in 0.0 against alliances. We did this very long. But when we demand what we need to be able to pirate 0.0 usually a flamefest begins. What we need in 0.0 to pirate there is:
- traffic! 0.0 is simply too empty to pirate there. 0.0 needs to be settled. - sec hits! Without a sec hit itŠs not piracy. If i can kill 1000 players and then still be welcome in empire something is wrong, or not? - tolling options like the "strike colors button" i proposed 1 year ago. This would help to get away from ganking and get the EVE galaxy closer to roleplaying.
As long these things are not fixed, the only way to pirate is: go to low sec empire, gank everything that comes trough the system and make a living out of the loot we get. If you have problems with our gamestyle, plz contact CCP to make them improve 0.0 piracy. Thank you.
BTW: yesterday a new player in a Kessi convoed me in time (before he warps to the gate or uncloaks). He was allowed to pass trough without paying a toll. Really - we dont focus on killing n00bs, but if they come along without any interacting, weŠll take their 3-4 tech I items too. This is a roleplaying game and we play our role. If you come along totally ignorant, not caring about 3 named pirate corps in local you shoulnt wonder about getting killed. I also have to say that n00bs loose close to nonthing if they loose their Merlin. YouŠll recover from this very fast and if not you wont make it in EVE anyway. Then you should quit fast and give the server ressources free for players that like EVEs brutality.

Honest truth?.. its just too darn time consuming going after sniping pirates for us...
Im after good clean PVP action, having to try and get a covert alt into the system, then get ur guys passed their MANY alts at gates is just too much hard work....
usually when u arrive they go to safe, as they are ill-equiped for actual pvp, IE fitted with sensor boosters and damage mods.
Id just avoid obvious pirate systems like those if i were u.

CCP should put EW back to the way it was...
Give EW the same doggone ranges that those sniper ships have. Currently the best range you can get out of any EW module is ~90km unless you have something like Caldari BS 5 and EW 5 and fly a scorpion that will die to the sniper fleet before it gets a spitting chance to lock.
Give EW modules the same 200km range the snipers enjoy and I'd have no problems with their existance beyond their being ****ing annoyances.

And i agree totally with you attacking us ALONE! Yes, he attacked us ALONE! Since snipers are weak in close combat it was a good plan of him. We had players attacking 2 of our BS in 2 Enyos...killing one of our battleships. These guys had balls. They didnŠt go to forums demanding CCP shoul change the game - those guys attacked us! They had fun, we had fun.
The real problem in this game are "singelplayers" in a sci-fi multiplayer wargame. Get it now: EVE is a sci-fi-massive-multiplayer-wargame and not sim-city-in-space-single-player-difficulty-easy.
I had so many people saying:"EVE is not a wargame". But just take a look at the items. ALL items are war equippment, except some mining lasers and 3 or 4 ships that are mining ships. So what is EVE??? Yes, a wargame with more than 10000 war equipment items and nearly 100 warships. That economy is a part of the "war in EVE" doesnt make EVE to sim city in space.

While I have nothing in particular against pirates and campers, although I personally don't find it fun, I'd like to understand some logic behind creating low sec pockets in the empire space. Take Aunnen or Horkkisen. These systems are not border zones and are not leading to 0.0 space. So why are they there?

Such systems are just bad neighborhoods, just like real life. Only go there heavily armed or with a gang of friends, because the police won't be there.
If CCP puts in artificial limitations about what ships can be there, it damages the believability of the EVE setting. The player driven do whatever you want flavor of EVE is one of the reasons I keep playing it.

As a newbie myself, I don't see where the problem is with having NPC fleet patrols going from system to system, and to be honest, that's sort of what I expected to see starting out in this game. It would be neat to see Amarr and Minmatar fleet battlegroups posturing themselves near populated areas, the fleet commanders each trying to boost their egos and the empire leaders making themselves look better with a show of force.
Battlegroups roaming between systems is also a good idea. I think people are making the misconception that these are supposed to be big, tough, uberpowerful fleets. They won't be, and it shouldn't be enough to kill all the gate campers. Rather, it should be enough to help weaken them, and it would be good persuasion for the pirates to pack up their crap and move to another low-sec system on a busy route. The way I see it, everyone wins. Systems don't end up perpetually camped, newbies may have a slightly better chance of survival, pirates will get some good loot drops, and life goes on.
I don't think we're talking Uh-oh-here-comes-CONCORD here, just the occasional NPC show of force.

Gate sniping provides no risk to the snipers, they can snipe ships at will with no risk of retaliation. At least guys who tank the sentries have some sort of risk.

sure every noob passing through, miner, trader whatever has a covert ops wingman at his disposal and a AF frig fleet in the next system.

Hate to tell you, sniper or not. They proably wouldn't live if the was close are far from the gate.
We could always take out sentries and catch pirates in smaller ships and taking more risks.

You know low sec space is supposed to be ... low sec. E.g. UNSAFE.
Put a covert ops next to the snipers, warp in with a few friends and blast em to bits. If you are unable to do that, stay in secure space.

I would love to make a few points. 1) Sniping sucks, and I think is ghey, if you want to kill people do it close range. 2) Most "pirates" don't kill new players unless forced to or believe you are an alt. I myself will not kill new players unless I can tell there an alt or they harass me or won't leave the system and sit right next to me. When I kill newb hauler's I replace them and try to teach them how to not get caught at gates. 3) "Pirating" in low sec is ghey and annoying enough as it is, the last thing we need is random naval npc attacks. Since it's not 0.0 I already am stuck in .4 or below and can be killed by anyone at anytime...get 2 interceptor's and lock me down when i'm attacking someone...it's pretty easy. 4)I like writing numbers in posts. 5)Just set your autopilot for safe route and make sure you look at the route before you follow it, after this new patch there's many ways around these systems. If there isn't well sorry, suck it up and scout it out. Or if your nice enough and talk to me before you warp to me i'll probably let you go. Yeah that's my 2 cents.

/on Topic. Sniping is lame. I was nuked by a particularly effective (non sniping) MAFIA gatecamp that I was trying to snergle past in a cloaked hauler. Unfortunately one of their BSs warped in closer than 2k decloaking me. Nice Op actually - very professional.
While horrendously annoying, the answer is to force pirates out in a "byo fleet frenzy" We did it in a lo sec area and whilst camping is about as much fun as throwing your nads through a mincer, they got more bored and left first.

No, I've hit the point spot on. Also this flame to makes no sense, my attitude is in no way immature, I am simply stating the facts of the game.
As for 'inferior' complexes and 0.0 space, I know 0.0 has the best complexes, but to be honest I don't NPC at all (Yes I understood the dig, number one that is the worst insult ever, how could my disagreeance with your request for NPCs to help you against players in a PVP area mean I have an inferiority complex, baffling. Also I regularly fly 0.0 space as my sec status confines me to 0.0 to 0.4 space. Also, being -10.00 all space is like 0.0 to me as I am freely attackable).
Next time, read what people have posted and actually think up a rebuttal to their post that bears some relation to it.

Sniping is a tactic like any other tactic is. It has weak points, it also has advantadges. People claiming valid tactics to be lame or whatever are simply stupid. But these people where in all games iŠve ever played. Playing a shooter and frag someone over and over again with a sniper-rifle, sooner or later makes someone say:"you are a lame sniper!". Fact is you get the frags, he gets the headshots. Just bad loosers smacktalking...

Sniping is boring and i much rather tank sentries but.... its not always possible to get small ship when your on the gates, you'd be amazed the nice loot you get from interceptors and even newb ships flown by newb corp members ie peoples alts.

what really blows about these anti-sniper tactic is getting your hitters to them before they warp away...
the main problem here seems to be spy alts who will blow the cover away from most nicely planned camp-busts. even though sometimes it works..
also, i found out you can get campers nervous by just entering the system in a covert ops, and cloak in front of them ----

Surely the simple answer is to have the range of the sentry guns increased?
That way it's as 'fair' as it's supposed to be.
In 0.4-0.1 space there are less sentries at the gates so the risk gets higher for the innocent and higher for the pirates.
I still feel very newish and going lower than 0.5 is always worth an increase in adrenaline. The gates and stations only have a couple of guns and you take the risk - especially on multiple courier missions where just one leg takes you to 0.4 and could spoil up to 2 hours of effort....
Same risk for everybody - surely that's 'fair'?

They exploit the game rules?
You actually read the nice warning that comes up saying you enter 0.4 system, no concord, etc. What you think does this mean?
If you prefer staying safe, stay in .5 and above. If your Agent sends you there, go for another agent. Use the actual tools that you have before jumping in or use Local Chat.
Oh and can I have then Concord flying with me that I can safely pass the 0.0 entry point camps. Oh wait, they don't like me and will blast me anyway

Let me state one thing here...
Gate Camping is NOT piracy! No where in human history has a pirate sat in one location for hours/days/weeks in the hopes that some merchant ship or war ship would "happen" to come by. Sitting in one location means you have something there to protect.
The OP was not asking for handouts for the "carebears" he was asking for a little more realism in the game. Personnally I would like to see CCP remove gate camping on those gates in 0.4 space that lead back in to high sec space (notice I said only those gates leading back to high sec space not all the gates). What retard only provides protection to the inside of the door leading to his valuables?
