Edited by: Godpool on 03/09/2005 23:33:53 I am trying to find out how I can run both my accounts at once having two monitors and one account on each monitor. The problem is the second monitor lags so much I canŠt see what is going on there when I am using monitor nr.1. But when I swap and start using the second screen the lag stops there and goes over to nr.1...
Computer Specs: Diamond K8N motherboard AMD 64 3500(2,2ghz) 3 gig ram (soon to be 4) Nividia 6600GT 128mb(but I am using 7800GTX 256mb now for trial but it still lags! will upgrade to 256mb in Nividia but donŠt know which card) Acer 19" gaming enhanced monitor Samsung 19" Samsung SyncMaster 957mb(donŠt really know if the monitor is really 957mb it is written like that) 250 gig Sata Raid hard-drive(am not really sure though, 80% sure) 420w Power Supply New drivers installed for all the above and before saying try older drivers...I did for the g-card...did not work... All the above stuff is BRAND NEW!!!
I really want to make two monitors work because alt-tabbing between accounts all the time and not being able to see my other account has gotten me blown up MANY times!!!
Any suggestions are appreciated, I will do almost anything to get my two monitors working. The computer store said they would take all the stuff and swap it out for other stuff if I wanted.
Thanks in advance for your tips and suggestions....

Unless you are using a splitter cable your videocard should have two ports, one for each monitor (you may need an adapter if one is a dvi port). One eve client can default to the normal graphics adapter, the other one you can edit in settings (hit ESC) to make use of the secondary adapter. Then drag the 2nd client over to your 2nd monitor and things will be fine and both of you can go off hunting, pvp'ing, etc.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 04/09/2005 13:25:39 The problem is that the card can only hardware accelerate one monitor at once. The only way to get EVE on both monitors at once is to use two cards, I believe. I think Matrox cards also support it, but they're way out of date. -- Proud member of the [23].

Don't know if it was specific to me however the dual monitor option was also causing me random game disconnects even if only one instance running. This only started last patch.

There is one way to do it. A bit of work as you have to do it every time you start eve but fairly easy.
1. Start EVE account 1. 2. Go to Windows Display properties (right click on desktop and choose Properties), change so the second screen is marked as primary (settings tab, right click on second screen and choose primary, apply the change). 3. Start EVE account 2. Voila both will at full speed.

Two cards do not help, tried that already. I run both clients in 1024x768 window mode, works fine. If I try it at 1280x1024 then I find window position makes a huge difference. You gotta have one client a touch off screen. Either way they do slow down noticably. Running 3.0ghz P4 with Nvidia 6600 and 1 gig ram.

Most current video cards have two ports on the back, typically one vga and one dvi. With an adapter you can hook either onto either type of monitor but that doesn't matter too much for Eve. What it comes down to is whether or not in your Eve graphics settings your video card displays two adapters, one primary and one secondary. Assign an Eve client per adapter and you are set. The Matrox Parhelia btw supports 3 clients nicely, using that method - beyond that the card has built in support for Eve :-)

I have been having exactly the same problems and this worked like a charm for me anyway.
Thanks for the tip

Hi,
I'm running 2 clients of eve on 2 monitors split one vga one dvi and the only way to get it to work is to do what hoshi said, works fine then but if I overlap one of the clinets on to the other screen i get lag.
Also if you don't require the sound on then turn it off and that will also help.

It seems to me that you are all going through a lot more trouble than is necessary. I use an ATI card, but it should be the same for nVidia.
First off, 1 video card (Radeon 9700 pro). 2 monitors (17" and 19"). I run my accounts all from the same installation.
For the secondary monitor, load up eve, hit escape and go to the graphical options, there should be a dropdown box with two options. In my case those options are Radeon 9700 Pro and Radeon 9700 Pro (Secondary). Select secondary, and exit the menu. Drag that window over to the second monitor, and it will work smooth as a babies bottom. Then just open up your other account, and you're set.
If you do it from the same installation eve will automatically remember the settings for each account. Since my monitors are different sizes I use 1024 for the secondary and 1152 for the primary. When I sign onto acct one it opens in 1152, when I sign onto acct 2 it opens in 1024 and all I have to do to be ready to play is just drag its window onto the secondary monitor.
I know I typed a lot, but really there is not much work to it. Just switch the option to secondary, drag the window over and you're done. Don't have to fool with it anymore. _______________________

exactly correct mate thats what you have to do, just a few points in addition to the above. I have had dual gfx cards running the game in SLi mode but SLi does not support a dual monitor setup, so I removed one of the cards. Having a single gainward GLH 6600gt in I could not no matter what drivers I use get the option in the graphics settings to allocate the game to the second monitor, it just showed two instances of 6600gt (no secondary in brackets next to either entry).
So what I did was simply buy a new x850PE and it worked like it had done in my old 9800xt days - perfectly, UNTIL the new patch! Now although I have assigned one of the characters to the secondary monitor it slows my game play down a lot, closing the second account makes the primary char in primary monitor run smoothly. I am currently downloading the latest ati drivers to see if this helps.
