Basic items have a lot of use, they have lower skill reqs. Same with civilian items, whih newbies can find and use. They are definitely useful, and have a point.
Named mining lasers are more CPU-Efficient than Miner IIs are, so they are useful on small ships.
I would nominate the Procurer. :)

Metal Scraps. They're 10 m^3 per unit, and I get 50 at a time, and worst of all, nobody wants to buy them, despite the description, which claims that stations want to buy them for cheap plating...yet I'm such a packrat, I take the time to haul them in anyway. SOMEDAY I'll be able to sell them, I just know it. Really, I do.
