I'm building a Rack Mount computer system to play eve on and am attempting to find out whats the maximum VRAM (graphics card ram) that eve online can actually use, also what are the future likely requirements on storage i.e. will some of the loading screens be removed ect ect, as currently due to the loading screens i believe that spinning media storage (HDD) are as effective as non spinning media (SSD) when it comes to eve online as the load time is engineered into the game. |

Thank you for your answer the VRAM is one thing that cant be calculated by the size of the install as the amount of rendered items in game are not the same as the amount in the install as there may be areas where several copies of the graphics are in use hence my query as to the maximum amount of VRAM eve could use.
i have a spare rack-mount system so figured i would make it a gaming rig ..... plus space issues on my table means computers in the rack-mount unit make more sense.
I'm wondering if the loading benefit of an SSD would be about the same as a RAID array (already installed) for eve online. |

but does that speed actually translate in to a better eve online experience? that is the question.
obviously the best graphics that eve can output = a better experience the storage requirements will change and how much will the client need of the new speed avail. |

hence why I'm trying to find out the maximum amount of video processing power eve can use as i believe that's where the best experience improvement can be achieved |

Thanks everyone for your opinions and suggestions due mainly to the serendipitous circumstances i have found myself with 3 rack mount cases (Antec 4U22ATX if anybody wanted to know ( http://www.overclockers.com.au/article.php?id=227538 )) two of them came with internals including 4 gig of ram a pcie slot and 2 200gig HDDs as such ill be looking at graphics cards first for these existing systems
for the third empty case i am looking into a dual or quad cpu solution for a brute force powerful system looking at throwing enough ram at it to load all of eve onto a ramdrive at startup so a ssd would not be needed for speed
any additional thoughts are welcome.
edit: thinking something like this: http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherboard/Opteron8000/MCP55/H8QM3-2.cfm but in an atx formfactor |
