I fail to see how people can claim ATI is faster, when it has been proven over and over that the FX5900 is the fastest GPU on the market at the moment. Sure, ATI may be better at other things such as IQ, but don't claim ATI is faster when they are absolutely not.

Ive never used ATI except nVIDIA , and nVIDIA seems fine to me. I want to know is there a Quality difference in nVIDIA and ATI cards and which one is better? Eternal Power's are HIdden in ure mind. |

That's like asking this question:
Dog Shait, or Apple Pie?
Go with ATI.
To make a long story short, you will be happy with either one (nVidia or ATI). Obviously they are the two major graphics card manufacturers, it's just a matter of preference. And if you know what's good for you, you'll prefer ATI. Discussions like this are pretty pointless, because half the gamers will raise their fist for one brand, while the other half raises for the other brand. It just turns into a never ending debate.
If you want to read about the various graphics cards on the market, check out the Buyers Guide at TomsHardware.
They also have an article on the 256meg ATI here.

True, but you need to wear ear mufflers. Damn thing's louder than my vacuum cleaner.

Currently it looks like the 5900 may be the better buy, but both cards are excelent and I doubt you would be disapointed with either. The fanboys on both sides should take a step back, neither nVidia or ATI are perfect, both have had driver and GPU issues in the past.

But in a month or two ATI will top it, but that's a month or two down the road. ------------------------------------- Interm-CEO for EVE Marshals http://www.EVEMarshals.com |

ATI 9500, modded to 9700 - no problems.
ATI 7500 Mobility, had issues with the drivers that come with Win XP that could be fixed using the latest Omegadrivers.
Back in the days of my old GeForce2 MMX I had so many problems that I ripped the card out and bought me my first ATI 7000 - have never regretted changing camp ever since ;)

Oh deep, deep joy, a graphics card argument.
I'm sure they're both pretty much as good as each other. Most differences are negligible these days anyway. Especially when you're playing a game that doesn't use most of the dx8 features, much less dx9.
Top of the line cards seem to be good for showing off benchmarks, and running old games a bit quicker/higher res.
I've recently given up on the e-***** race, and am going to stick with my GF4400ti. It runs Eve a treat at 1600x1200, with dual monitor (other one for irc/im/winamp/browser).
A lot of people quote various tests, and their results, such as the 'improved' IQ on radeons. But outside a test environment (ie. your PC room) the stock monitors will lower your IQ anyway.
Nvidia on crap monitor - crap IQ ATi on crap monitor - crap IQ NVidia on quality monitor - Good IQ ATi on quality monitor - Double-Good IQ
Anyway, back to the original poster: Both cards you suggest will be easily powerful enough to run Eve. The only 'real' issue between cards is your current PC, and drivers.

right! Who wants to argue the toss between Intel and AMD?
just kidding. .
