What would happen if the Development team for WOW (World of Warcraft) took over EVE Development??
1. Halloween and Christmas would be celebrated in game each year by having each station in empire space hang decorations.
2. Players would be able to decorate in there favorite Christmas or Halloween outfits.
3. Each player would have a cute pet flying behind there ship.
4. Can tipping would be an offence punishable by account suspension.
5. Care bear servers would be set up allowing players to explore the universe of EVE without ever having to worry about being targeted by another player EVER!!!
6. If your ship gets destroyed you appear at the nearest station in a ghost pod that cant be targeted or seen, fly to your ship and your ship re-spawns with only minor damage to the hull.
7. New players get shield, hull and armor restored to full every 5 seconds for the first 3 months to ensure they don't die to easily.
8. Players invited to EVE by another player start off with 300,000,000 skill points and 2 billion isk.
9. Probe scanning only requires the necessary skills and probes to be launched, as soon as you click analyze all cosmic signature in the system appear at 100% regardless of probe placement and scan radius.
10. WE ALL GET TO BE PANDA BEARS!!!!!!!!! |

i'm sure you see where this is going... Want miners to move from high sec to null sec? Then give them a reason to join player corps, and stop null sec grav sites being worth less isk/hour than high sec asteroid belts. Really isn't difficult. |

Subscription numbers the month following the takeover would be down 50-80%.
Then EA buys the EVE rights and CCP gets dissolved.
Five years late you will get a really bloomy EVE shooter from EA. Mining Overhaul Nothing changed since 2008. |

I bet they would do a good job. Blizzard seems to have a great concept for group roles and making each player an important part of the group. I bet they would come up with some interesting ideas to de-emphasize the blob.
Re the overall direction and thematic choices; I think those are decided on before development really starts. Someone has an idea that will capture a large market share and they sell it to investors then development tries to create that vision. The WoW dev's have been very successful in building a fun, creative world that really appeals to a broad segment of the market . This was their goal and in it they have been successful.
What would they come up with if asked to design a dark, gritty, SF sandbox MMO that relied on a small niche audience? IDK, but I bet it actually wouldn't have panda bears as a playable race.

indeed, i remember when you had to actually be good at the game, to earn a spot in a raid, to kill a boss to get a *chance* on any kind of reward.
unlike now where you can turn up, not even participate, and get guaranteed rewards. Want miners to move from high sec to null sec? Then give them a reason to join player corps, and stop null sec grav sites being worth less isk/hour than high sec asteroid belts. Really isn't difficult. |

4. Scamming another player is a violation of the terms of service
5. When you set up a character you can choose a normal realm (no pvp unless you flag yourself for it, or enter a battleground) a pvp realm (there are three types of areas in the map, allied (you can attack enemy's and they cant attack you until you flag yourself by attacking) contested both sides can pvp at will, or enemy (they can attack you but you cant attack them until flagged). there are also rpg realms that require you to talk about only things in game. bottom line if you choose a normal realm you don't pvp unless you want to.
6. If you die you appear at a ghost in the graveyard run and find your body and re spawn with minor damage to your armor.
7. This is true for about the first 10 levels and gradually returns to a normal hit point and mana regen rate from level 10-20.
8. There was a deal offered during the Cataclysm expansion allowing new players invited by friends to start off at level 80.
9. A new system showing you where to find everything you needed in a quest was introduced during the wrath of the Lich King expansion.
10. In the newest expansion Mists of Pandora, panda bears became a playable race and where the entire driving force behind the expansion. If you don't believe me watch the trailer on you tube. |

All the bugs would get fixed
The expansions would be really massive (and expensive)
Their would be new capital ships released every 6 months
The game would be awesome
And really not worth playing after a short time when the shine wore off.
Then it would be taken over by pimply teenagers and their Elite playing style (Elite appears to be some code for, plays 16 hours a day and never having seen a naked woman(In real life)) We all thought CSM 6 was a war crime with it's massive Null Presence CSM7 topped it by selling out our Council to CCP, don't let it happen again. You mean UP by around 5-10,000 %, as The devs mainstream eve, and market it to a children's audience, where the mass appeal ruins the game that we enjoy, but brings in tons of subscribers, and even more revenue. We may not like WOW, but the devs have proven time and time again, that they know, with an MMORPG, how to make a massively successful product. I'm sure if A) CCP was willing to sell out, and watch their sandcastle be ruined, and B) Blizzard was willing to risk the venture, both parties would get VERY rich on it. The only people who would lose out, would be those of us who enjoy eve the way it is. |
