+1 to subs from me, I have faith that CCP is now in the right direction.
Thinking about celebrating with a free to enter pvp tournament with a rare ship as first prize after we see what the next expansion / fixoldshitpatch is released.

i know of a lot of people that while are not playing have active accounts, so online numbers will reflect there absents, active sub numbers wont |

Personally, I unsubbed all three of my accounts, but when I read Hilmar's blog, I resubbed my main..... hoping :)
Reactivated in response to the change in direction..... Will actually start PLAYING when the winter expansion hits. |

I believe CCP stated that they will no longer be releasing that yearly General Report thing they used to do ... the one with all the gorgeous graphs and statistics.
Another example of CCP softening-TFU. They're just like any other corporation now ... afraid to publicize a little bad news.

Numbers mean nothing if you can't say those 100 accounts gone are 100 individuals or a 10 with 9 alts.
While 10 with 9 alts is not important, 100 different people become annoying. |

If you owned a company with a very impressionable consumer, would you go about posting bad news about? Also what exactly is bad news to an under educated individual who casually follows the forums? I am not saying a large majority are. What I am saying is, look at the unsub for lack of confidence thread. Not everyone who posted in it actually followed through or did so because they knew the inter workings well. Sub numbers or not, I am holding my breath for this winter's release.
It is a real "make for break" for me personally.
I've only been playing for 4 years (three separate accounts), spent a year + out in null-sec Dronelands (back when IRON was still there) and then went north to WI when it was still a start up. Most fun but, RL obligations have made me a HiSec industrial/PvE player for almost 2 years now.
As such, I am obviously focused on things that effect the casual player more than the null-folk at this time. With this in mind, the Hybrid balance, star-base logistics, new T2 modules and T2 rig production will be a good step. But, is it enough to keep me paying for 3 accounts ?
My fingers are crossed .... I want the magic back. |

I think everyone looking at sub numbers should brace for some very big account number fluctuations over the next 10 years. When DUST lands I'm sure there will be an awesome wave of new EvE players that will make eve-this-second look like a fraction of eve-at-beta population. Just as quickly as those numbers ramp up though... if interest in the FPS falls off so too may the pod population drop. This could go on a lot...
I do think that even that will be kind of fun though. We'll see huge surpluses and shortages on the markets at various times... huge blobs of ships for a time followed by sparse populations... wild new mechanics will pop up to accommodate this... good times for eve's future methinks...
...I'm not sure where I'm really going with this... 'cept to say I think current subs aren't necessarily going to be the primary indicator of EvE' s overall health. People come and people go. I'll be camping low sec.

as for numbers I want, subs itself is more of a RL business issue.
It is correlated with a few game economic issues and I'd much preffer things to be presented in realm and thats what I want to think about,, the EVE in game economy.
What I'd really like is a few index numbers released quarterly.
We were given these numbers once and I found them incredibly useful in understanding the economy.. which was a lot of fun.
When there is less to think about ,, its less fun to play.
- bounties collected.
- insurance payouts.
- # ships destroyed
- not yet disclosed but presumabley parsable via api by people like dotlan if they collected and aggregated 24 hour data... but number of ships detroyed in player to player km generating things
- market trade volume for the quater (presumably players have that info too already.. but it would be nice to have in a 10 line report
- I'd also like to have a top twenty ships created (not flow at time of a flash reading) by number similar to the past tables. |

i think a lot of what your asking for is on teh data dump thing they are doing instead of the QEN, i coudl be wrong though.
the sub count isnt on that data dump
CCP-áare full of words and no action. We watch what they do and its nothing but false statements and lies.

My subs are already cancelled. I'm just expecting more than lip service before I decide if it's worth re-upping or time to move on to a game that doesn't sit behind Minecraft 90% of the time. |

I doubt it will look like that in the end, its just a quick draft and means pretty much nothing. :P
TBH Its a little boring without Eve and nonlinear tournaments are fun if people actually take part. Considering my pvp record is smart bombing 16 out of the 40 people in Rens who said one of my events was boring and a couple of kamokazi jitaganks I should probably find a professional this time around.
Also to note, I was watching the subs last year around October and there was a similar decline (although of a lesser scale) which I'm sure everyone has taken into consideration.

While SWTOR isn't an eve competitor, it is a sci-fi draw and could easily siphon off would to be players. It's release is in December, so the Oct decline may not pick up for awhile.
I also "feel" like CCP has been banning more bots lately, so that also has a dent in subs. |
