To clear things up for those who still just don't get it...
1. Macro-mining is a punishable offense. 2. Stealing ore from a macro-miner is also a punishable offense, unless CCP has told you to go ahead as a reward for reporting the macro-miner. Two reasons: 2a. You are benefiting from a bot, thereby making use of the bot, and by not reporting it, conspiring to keep the bot in operation. 2b. (Nobody I saw mentioned this one...only read like 2/3 of the thread though) If you *weren't* punished for this, the macro-miners could "steal" from themselves in order to launder ore into the economy without risk of having the "thief" banned.

Actually that's not what CCP are saying. You can take the ore AFTER you lodge a petition. You don't need to wait for a reward or okay. Petion then Steal is fine.

Well this one was quite easy. There was 3 mining barges mining away. All player names were random composite names. HappyMage, Pristgirl etc. No ships were named. There were 2 cargo haulers aswell. All theese ships were hugged closely. In the middle there was a jettisoned can that got more and more loaded with ore.
I flew straight up to the can and parked my ship and asked on local "mind if i take this can". Stayed there for 10 minutes while discussing with my corp if i could take it or not.
No replies at all. So i filled a petition and left by request from my corp.
Ok I don't think this qualifies as a good description of 'macro-miners'. Obviously I can't say whether these were as I wasn't there myself but when I mine with my corp there are usually 2 or 3 barges and a 1 or 2 haulers with maybe a BC or 2 and unless we are in low sec space I don't monitor the local channel. I've also seen some players with some unimaginative names flying around.

Do macrominers put one extra item in the can? Something like a bullet. Seen that several times in cans with nothing in it and once with ore in it.

Originally by: Cobra64 two wrongs don't make a right. Yes macro mining is wrong, it removes ore from secure space and people can buy it with real money to pump into the game in any secter of space they like without having mined the ores or spent the time on line to earn the skills to mine the ores them self. The problem is one for CCP to deal with however and not ours, anyone who steals from a jet can is a pirate and as bad as the person doing the macro thingie, you didn't earn the ore by mining it and so it isn't yours. It's the thin end of the wedge to make it acceptable to steal ore in this way but at the same time I think it should be a part of the game, I think that people should be able to steal ore but if they do it in secure space they should take a security hit for it and have concord on their ass, or the miner should be allowed to retaliate.....or both. Second lowest form of life if you ask me, parasites in space, don't do it.
I agree with this. I'm new to the game and had someone steal from me already. But the worst thing is i can't do anything about it. They should have concord right on them for this. We can't do anything so the cops should. I wanted to fire on that guy so bad. Ccp should do something about this.

1. Are you all saying that some on this board feels that if I set up an indy in a belt and afk mine, I am doing something wrong?
2. Is't this game "Open Ended?" Why do people feel it is against the "rules" to steal ore in cans? Is not thievery in this game? I guess I don't understand....if you don't want someone to take your ore, then you should either A. Guard it or B. Carry it to a station after you mine it.
Is that not one of the parts of joining a corp? If I need some protection while I mine, they will come along. And I will do the same for them.
Seriously, I don't understand the point.
Using a macro to mine stuff = Bad Setting your mining laser to mine and then going to watch tv = What is wrong with that? (I stand a HUGE chance of getting blown up.) E
I bet you wouldn't do that in .0 though.

The extra item is there so the haulers can take all the mins without the can popping. I (we) do it all the time and it is not an indication of macro-users. |

I agree with you. When miners don't want people to steal their ore don't put it there, so everyone can take it. But there should also be a possibility to do something against a thief. There is a patch coming where the thief can be shot at in + 0.5 space? I think that's good, but, the thief must be able to return fire without police showing up. Then the ore miner needs a ship with a little firepower to defend himself/herself.
I think this could be fun, ore thievery will be done more often and there will be more pvp, wich is the most fun in this game (i hope, just playing a few weeks)
I think most miners don't want the thief to be able to shoot back because they are mostly "carebears".

Lol,not this miner. Besides..most of the ore thieves i've seen are in haulers. So that means easy target. I was in rens last night,i see so many haulers in rens now. Belts are being striped clean. And newbies screaming in local about them stealing ore.

goosh.
Macroing is against the rules. Stealing from them might be against the rules, but then they need proof that you know they where macroers. Which I doubt they will do something about.
Stealing from jetisoned cans are up to you. You might get bad reputation and get your corp into trouble. Either have a hauling friend picking it up right away, or use a secure can.
It's an RPG and it's up to anyone to make their own choices
