I'm considering doing something a bit unusual and starting a club called the 'ghetto fleet'. it will not be a proper corp, just a informal club of players who wish to participate.
the goal would be to have weekly events where everyone who wishes to participate in the ghetto fleet gets togethor and we all try for some stupid challenge or competition.
the idea is to just come with a cheap ship that you have no fear of losing and have a bit of fun attempting some kind of challenge. we would be going for the highest targets using the lowest resources possible.
examples of possible goals and events:
get togethor a large group of tech 1 frigates/destroyers, go into 0.0 and try and take down a battleship in pvp through sheer numbers.
and if we get that done we can try it again but instead use only armed industrials.
split participants into 2+ gangs and fight it out to the last gang standing using only frigates, destroyers and tier 1 cruisers.
have a free for all fight with only frigates with the only allowable weapons being drones, smart bombs and FoF missiles.
and of course a combination of the last 2, a free for all with frigates, destroyers and tier 1 cruisers with no restrictions on weapons.
it just seems to me no-one ever wants to get togethor and just have fun even though you really accomplished nothing. The idea is, every now and then you can come and have a great time just stuffing around in rediculous combat operations without any fear of losing your ship.
not to mention. if this works out. you may one day be able to say: 'i took down an apoc with a fleet of industrials'
the hardest part about this i think, would be basing the event in a location that wouldn't require people to go 30+ jumps to get there and the hold them at a time people are able to play.
also new players who might enjoy participating might have a harder time because a frigate/destroyer/industrial isn't a disposable ship for them yet, in which case i'd be happy to part with some isk to buy new players their 'ghetto ships' for the events.
right now it's just a concept, i'd like to know if there are people out there who would like to participate in such a club. If there are enough people to make it worth doing then what i'll do is create a mailing list to alert people of scheduled events and create a channel to use during events.
so what do you think, might you be interested in such a thing or do you think it's a complete waste of time.

Great idea,i just have a few things to add.
1: Quote: get togethor a large group of tech 1 frigates/destroyers, go into 0.0 and try and take down a battleship in pvp through sheer numbers.
This is very easy. Maybe against a small enemy fleet in BS, or remove a gate camp or something would be more fun.
2: Quote: the hardest part about this i think, would be basing the event in a location that wouldn't require people to go 30+ jumps to get there and the hold them at a time people are able to play.
These are the main problem with things like this. To hold it in an easily accessible area requires you to all be in the same corp, which is a bit much for a purely weekly event. And due to the unreliable nature of people / the internet, planning it for when people will be on is a nightmare. One off events like this woprk, but i cant see a regular thing working without a lot of effort from all involved.
oh and i love this idea
Quote: and if we get that done we can try it again but instead use only armed industrials.

Edited by: Berasus on 07/09/2005 14:41:29 thanks for the input jonathan,
yeah those were just example idea's, i know there would be a few issues to work out. but i think it can be done and if mass t1 frigates agaisnt a bs might be to easy to do, we can always limit the field more :) (oh noes, a fleet of newbie frigates with civilian guns and modules! , run away!)
the timezone thing will make it hard, but not to hard to work around. would just have to figure out when the most people are available and hold it then.
as for the long jumps issue. i don't think it's as bad as requiring everyone to be in the same corp, sure it will limit the possible participants a bit but not enough to make it undoable

This is very easy.
The killing of it, yes. The difficult part is finding the guy who's willing to turn up in a battleship, at a place and time arranged by a large and operating-without-security group. ______________________________ This week's Post of the Week winner:

Suggestion: Find a place that's regularly camped by a pirate bunch (PF-346?)
....collect a HUUUUGE number of people in velators, ibis's, etc., and try and force the pirates to leave just by sheer weight of numbers. Best done with purpose-created alts and setting your clone point to Orvolle, so you can jump straight back in a newbie ship and straight back to the camp.
The pirates will kill about six hundred of you, but you'll still all be there ... could be fun ______________________________ This week's Post of the Week winner:

hehe, that's not a bad one either but it might be one for later. think smaller for the 1st few though untill more people get interested and have enough for something like that.

Sounds like a fun idea and think of the embarassment that the BS pilot would go through losing his BS to a fleet of Noob ships or Industrial ships. I wouldn't mind creating an alt and having a go at this.

well, no-ones come out and said "that's a horrible idea, your an idiot for even suggesting it" so i take that as a good sign , unless i missed it of course
so lets move this forward a bit.
I have created a channel and a mailing list.
Mailing list: Ghetto Mailer Channel: Ghetto Fleet
all events will be listed in the ghetto mailer a while before the actual event as well as information about how this will work so join that to find out all you need to know to participate.
The channel is for use during events but your welcome to join it at anytime and i'll be in there whenever i'm on to answer questions and discuss details.
I'm also going to make a thread on the recruitment board to see about getting a little more support for this.
If all goes well we can possibly do the 1st small event this weekend, if we don't have enough for an event by then than i'll just delay it a few days untill it picks up a bit more although it would only take a handfull for the 1st small event so i expect 4 or 5 days should be more than enough to sort that out.
see you in the ghetto!

I'd like to see 2 empire corps created solely for the purpose of being at war with each other. You join one of the corps for 2 days and spend your time fighting the guys in the other corp. Then you go back to your normal Eve life for the rest of the week/month/year.
There would be real risk and reward. You could lose your ship but on the other hand you could loot the can of the guy you've just taken out. You would also be fighting under real war conditions, not just split into 2 gangs.
There would have to be rules on corp size and general rules of engagement.
It would be fun as a temporary diversion from your usual game.

if you click the "channels and mailing list" button on the big bar on the left there will be a tab that says "mailing lists"
it's basicly a group you join and you can send mails that go to that entire group, and you can see all the mails sent amongst that group. makes it easy to get messages to groups of people at once.

The frigate thing is fun as hell, and it works well also. We had a fleet of around 30-40 and we killed BSes in seconds. Inbetween haulers, cruisers, HA ships and BSes we killed about 800mill-1.2 billion in ships and mods, and lost about half our fleet when the enemy allaince put together a fleet of BSes to stop us. We still took out 2 ravens and apoc and damaged a few others before we got out of there. It was also a night when CCP was having fiber optic problems so i think we crashed the server a few times.
Big lag, big fun. Lol at the indy idea too. I would like to try that. All your ferrets are belong to us.

I'll go if we put together a sensible strategy. I'll talk to my corp too. At least several of us would band up for such an event.
Go to ec-p8r and surrounding area (very close to Nonni and Torrinos) with 30 frigs and look for some snipers. make sure you have at least one covert ops ship so you can gang warp everyone on them quick.
It's like trying to hit a running rabbit with an elephant gun as it runs past your feet, possible, but not likely. I can do 874m/s in an atron 8) not bad for a n00b (3 months, spent mostly learning learning skills :[)
Just get the team together and don't post the dates/times here. Otherwise you'll have gank squads waiting for you.
I could afford to blow up a few tristans and a fleet of atrons with 6 hours of mining. I have most of the mins already. I have all the tackling skills but could do the shooting too, just not that great yet. I do have frigs 5 which helps damage output and speed in the ships I fly.
I'd love to do the pearl harbor kamikazee thing LOL. Send me an in-game email with time/date of op and I'll get as many people as I can to go. I only ask for some advance notice, so I can get myself and a bunch of frigates, supplies, etc to the part of the universe where you guys are doing op before hand.
It would bite if I had to clone jump every time I got killed and do 30 jumps to get back to battlefield. I have a lot of the tech 1 module bpo's and would sell people supplies (125-250 rails, scramblers, afterburners, ammo, whatever) at cost.
I think it's a great idea and it would be a blast.

We play a version of "capture the flag" with newb ships and the civilian gear only.
You pre-position three jet cans, one named Blue Base, one named Red Base, and one called The Field. It's up to you how far you space them, but we put both red and blue 10k from the Field can in the middle. All should be on the same horizontal plane.
Inside the Field can, you put a bookmark or some other thing, maybe a single 5m3 module or ammo, that you refer to as the "flag". Both teams start within opening distance of their own "base" flag.
The goal is to get the flag and put it in the other team's base can. This, obviously, means rushing to the middle, grabbing the flag and fighting your way through the other team to their can.
The first time we played, there were no rules other than the fact that you could only fly newb ships with the gear they have on them (I cheated and mounted TWO civilian blasters :) ). We quickly learned that there need to be a few basic rules.
1) One minmatar newb ship per side unless ALL are in minmatar newb ships.
2) You need a ref with a ship scanner (cuz of me), or one member from each team with a ship scanner. A ref with an remote armor repper is also very useful.
3) You have to disallow anyone, particularly the flag carrier, from warping out. During our second match, their flag carrier warped away and warped back in on the other side of the objective can, thus getting around our defense.
It's a great game! Everyone's speed is about the same. Everyone's weaponry is about as damaging. Real tactics actually come into play.
We were going to try a different version of this game a week later, in which you could mount any un-named tech 1 item on your ship that you wanted, as long as it was a newb ship...OR...you could mount any number of "civilian" modules on your newb ship.
We couldn't do it because our entire region erupted into war the next week. Anyhoo...try it out. We never had bigger than five on five, and that was a blast! Make sure you ahve a good supply of newb ships in your hanger if you want the fun to keep going.
