This morning I was up a bit early and I logged in to EVE for an hour before I went to work. I auto-piloted a few dozen jumps and logged off undocked and a dozen jumps from my destination. in 2 years of play, I've done this more than a few dozen times when time is suddenly short and you have to run.
Little problem though...
While I was logged off and my computer was in stand-by, my ship was still working its way to the destination set in my autopilot. I was at work and my ship was sitting unattended where my corp mates thought it funny to shoot holes in my armor and hull. I thought it was funny too. I have been known to shoot holes in my corp mates ships when they leave them unattended, just for the ****-all of it.
I log on to a good laugh and a lot of questions, most of which started with a word that started with an "f" and sounded a lot like "luck".
Talk about your persistant universe's?

Yeah - I logged off of EVE and turned off the computer, but my ship continued to stay online and autopilot to it's destination where it sat at the gate.
1) I loggged off COMPLETELY...
2) I turned the CPU off, we've been having lightining storms and leaving it on is a good way to turn 1200 dollars worth of CPU into an endtable
3) My Ship stayed ..

I thought Autopilot was client side.
I think you indeed left yourself logged on and eventually your machine entered 'Standby' and that is how you think you left your machine.
I hate repeating myself.....
